Splinterlands | Bots Can Be Stupid At Times

Splinterlands | The Bot Ecosystem

We have seen bots playing against players in Splinterlands, and it does pack a punch at times. There could be many reasons for that, but the two main reasons that I have encountered are that they seem to have higher-level cards, and then they seem to play the same game plan with a given set of rules. That gives the bots a slight advantage to end up with at least more wins than losses. That would be good enough, I guess.

Many newbies feel that bots are not suitable for the ecosystem, and that's not a new thought, nor was it aired for the first time. As newbies, we too questioned the bots but, over time, realized that bots are a great addition to the ecosystem. The main irrefutable reason is the game creation that bots bring to Splinterlands. This was especially true about a year back when Splinterlands had not blown out so big. What is game creation?

Well, when we submit our team for battle, there has to be another player playing simultaneously. Otherwise, there would be no matching, and there would be no game. Can you imagine waiting endlessly after submitting your team only to realize that no other player is playing at that time? Frustrating, right?

Bot_Hankie_Pixa.png

This is where bots come in. They would be playing 24x7 nonstop. So, it does not matter which time zone you belong to or what time of the day you wish to play. If you do not find a player, you will at least find a bot to complete the battle. That is such a blessing. See why the bots are essential?

Today I am here to make fun of a bot's game rather than sing their praises. Hahhaha, I do that too. 😊 I have had some great bot encounters (or at least great battles) where I was put down even before I started, but this one was hilarious. Let's get to the game to have a look.

Wait, before getting to the battle, how about getting to know Splinterlands a bit more? After all, this is about Splinterlands, right? So, let's go.

What Game is Splinterlands?

Splinterlands is a digital card game that allows you to collect, trade, battle, rent, and even earn from the cards. The game gives Play to Earn a whole different meaning. It is one of the most generous games that I have seen where cards, potions, Dark Energy Crystals (DEC. Cryptocurrency) are given out every day to thousands of players for just playing and winning daily quests. And there are tournaments that you can play or guilds that you can join.

Games_Splint1_LookFeel.jpg

Just to give you an idea of how lucky you can get in Splinterlands - read my story of getting cards worth $500 from buying a few packs worth $20 only.

Got Cards Worth $500 from $20 Packs

And this is just a tiny number. I have witnessed people getting uber-expensive cards in their pack and selling it for as high as $6500. This means the game has interested buyers for your cards too. In fact, there is a whole Splinterlands marketplace.

If this is not enough, then Splinterlands has just launched the governance token SPS, which is being airdropped to all Splinterlands players over the year. So, you are not late. Get on with the game and earn SPS today. SPS is listed on exchanges, too.

To join, scroll down quickly. 😊

Bots | The Necessary Evil of Splinterlands

There would be arguments that the need for bots diminishes with the increase in players worldwide. I think that is not a sound assessment. That statement assumes that players are equally distributed in every time zone, or at least, countries to ensure a successful game. You would see the fallacy in that point.

There is no equality in the distribution of players, and therefore, the bots would fit in to bring about equality. I suspect even with the growth of players in the foreseeable future, more likely that we would see an increase in bots too to ensure game making. I am also sure that bots would be fighting against bots when we humans are sleeping. What fun!! Hahaha!

Anyway, let's jump to the battle.

Line_Divider_Spl.png

Face-to-face with a Bot

Now, let me tell you that I have found bots to be good in battle, and this one is a bit of an aberration. Despite having more wins against bots, I am starting to think about the day when these things would be AI and make it crazy challenging to win against them.

Coming back to our battle, the rule in play was the health-equalizer and blast. The total mana cap was 16.

Games2_B_Rule.jpg

It is evident that we would try to bring in as many monsters as possible with a good attack, right? Hmm, not right. The bot did not think so.

Games2_B_B1.jpg

The team on the upper part of the screen is the bot's team, while the lower one is mine. There is only a single melee monster, and the Furious Chicken in the third position makes for the second attack monster. But neither can attack from that position.

What is funny is that every time the tank monster is attacked, the only attack monster in the opponent's arsenal also gets blasted. That's like putting it to rest without even using it.

And if that is not all, then there is no monster to attack my team; surely, not till any of the bot's attack monsters are in the first position.

-------------******-----------------

The Rumbling Begins

The rumblings were all by my team. The bot was just there to take my attacks.

Games2_B_B2.jpg

See that? The bot has already lost the only attacker by round four, and now it was for the Furious Chicken to get things going. Notice that the health of all my monsters is almost intact. That's because I only took one attack from the opponent's monster so far.

-------------******-----------------

Racing to Conclusion

It just took me four more rounds to bring the curtains down.

Games2_B_B3.jpg

It is not that I had some exemplary gameplay; instead, the bot had a dumb one. I am not going to complain about it and wish more and more bots are like this one in battle. 😊

Line_Divider_Spl.png

That's It | I Won

As I mentioned before, bots do come up with good games, and this is the first one where I had seen an unexpectedly dumb lineup. And this is one of the bot groups that has existed for a long time, so I guess this was a glitch.

Anyway, I had my fun and my win. See you all around! 😊

Bots are the only ones renting cards anymore from me. Probably 80% of my cards rented out are bots that don't even play the cards. Just rented for CP.

Yeah, nothing against the bots, just that this battle was funny.

Renting - yeah, the same case with me. Bots are the ones doing the renting from me at the moment. Players renting is far and wide.

Glad I'm not the only one seeing it. They've really ramped up the renting lately too which has been nice.

Have you noticed some cards just skyrocket in rental value for a day or two and then come right back down? Like right now for instance I'm renting lvl 1 chickens for 30 dec and tomorrow it will probably be back to 3 dec. I've been noticing it for a few months now but can't really figure out what it is. Tournaments maybe?

Yes, the spike in rates happens only twice in a season - the first one is tournaments like you mentioned and the other one is the end of season renting flurry to gain CP. The end of season is when I see some humans renting my cards, at least. :)

Bots are kinda stupid, yeah.

I already tried one bot a few days ago when I was really busy IRL and couldn't manually play. The bot insisted on playing 5 or less Monsters per match while I had the Furious Chicken available to be played together. It didn't understood that playing the Chicken would always increase the win rate when there was an empty space on the team...

You tried a bot?? I was meaning to ask someone who had knowledge of bots. So, what is it, is it your own program? Or did you buy it from someone? Curious.

I'm absolutely not an expert; I just used one that (at least AFAIK) the most popular one. They have a discord channel in which you can find the official download link and all that jazz...

The bot is free to use on 2 or 3 accounts (as I only have 1, whatever :D), but if you want to use on several dozens accounts (as people do), you have to pay a fee/month/account. I think it's 0.5$/month/account, but I'm not sure (as I said, I wasn't really looking toward building a bot empire, just try out the tool).

As the user, you don't have many options regarding in-game decisions, it's all made by the bot. You just config some overall stuff like minimum Capture Rate, maximum Capture Rate, etc.

Wow, thanks for that! Which is this group? Or at least if you could share the link to the discord. I am on discord and Telegram, in case you want to dm me instead of sharing here. I am cool if you choose to share here. Others can also benefit. :)

I don't like to share links on Hive as things can go bad (channels can be hacked, pished, etc) and I don't want to be the one that shared stuff around. But if you go on Google and search for "Ultimate-Splinterlands-Bot-V2", the first link will be their Official GitHub. On the description, they have their official Discord Channel and Telegram.

Bots are necessary evil...

Yeah I couldn't agree more. I can't imagine if there were no bots, finding a match would take what 5 to 10 minutes I guess? 🤣 Not to mention a Silver Rank being matched with a Champ Rank because there were no other candidates for match making

True that. Unequal matching is something I hadn't covered in my article, but very possible. In the absence of bots, get ready to play against players at least a couple of leagues above you. Not a happy situation, I am sure. :)

HAHA! What a mess that bot! Nice point of view.

I never even considered bots! Yeah, bots sound like a horrible thing for Splinterlands, but without them I probably couldn't find a match at 3:00 am if I decide to play a match when I get up to pee lol

The match you displayed was hilarious! Probably the inspiration for your great article.
