Splinterlands Social Media Challenge - Trying out Quilliun Legionary

Hello everyone! This is my second entry for this week's Splinterlands Social Media Challenge. Today, I'm sharing a battle of mine in Modern Diamond Ranked.

I fought an interesting battle in Modern Diamond ranked. In this game, I used Quilliun Legionary, which I maxed out very recently. I have used this card in lower leagues tournaments, especially those that are Rebellion only. This is not a great card. It has 4 different abilities at max level, which is a high number, especially for a rare card. The problem is that the abilities don't work very well with each other. It has Thorns, Void, and Close Range, which don't work very well together. Close Range means you probably want it closer to the front, placing other ranged units behind it. But Thorns works very well in the last position to hurt Sneak attackers. Void units want to be in the front. There's also the Bloodlust, which it gets at level 8. It's not that easy for a unit with just 2 attack points to get kills. However, Bloodlust with Thorns can be very powerful, so there's some synergy there, at least. It's not bad that the card can play several different roles; the problem is that it's likely going to be a worse option than cards that are focused on just one aspect of the game. A great example is Dumacke Orc, which is usually horrible against magic attacks and amazing against melee./div>

It doesn't help that 3 of the Modern Earth summoners grant abilities it already has. Immortalis for Void, Eternal Tofu for Thorns, and Fernheart for Close Range. Regardless, that doesn't mean it is useless. The high HP is good for Thorns and Bloodlust. In fact, the 11 HP was the reason I used it in this game because both Void and Thorns were useless since the rules didn't allow melee units, and I was using Immortalis.

This game had the following rule sets: Keep Your Distance, Born Again, and Rise of the Commons. The mana cap was just 45, with only Fire, Earth, and Life available. I went with Immortalis with Quilliun Legionary in front. I followed it up with Grimbardun Smith and Moxian Rebel. Next, I placed Goblin Psychic and Venari Seedsmith. I finished the team with Mycelic Slipspawn. They opted for Ilthain with Pelacor Conjurer in front and Time Mage next. The rest of their team were ranged units: War Pegasus, Supply Runner, Venari Crystalsmith, and Pelacor Arbalest.

Round 1

They had much more speed, so they quickly eliminated my Taunt unit, twice. I missed some of the attacks on Pelacor but I was able to trigger Poison and Affliction.

Round 2

Quilliun Legionary was taken out twice. I was lucky enough to be able to finish the Pelacor twice this round. If it had survived after the Resurrect, it would get Healed in the third round.

Rounds 3

Grimbardun Smith survived at 1 HP. I Healed it back to 4 and killed the Time Mage, making War Pegasus go to the front.

Round 4

With only 3 attackers, they could only kill Grimbardun once. I Healed it back to 4 again and took out the Pegasus.

Round 5

Even with just 3 attackers, they managed to kill the Grimbardun. But I also got rid of their Supply Runner.

Rounds 6 and 7

With just one attack, they couldn't even kill my Rebel once. I had enough to take out the Venari twice and seal the game for me. I finished it in round 7.

My team was solid. Grimbardun was good against both ranged and magic attacks. Goblin Psychic had Tank Heal and nerfed magic attacks. Seedsmith had the Poison. The Rebel allowed Grimbardun to attack. Slipspawn had the Slow and Taunt. With 9 mana left, Quilliun Legionary, with its high HP, was a decent choice, although it was certainly the filler card. However, I was very lucky during the first two rounds with the hits and triggering Poison and Affliction. If the Conjurer had lived one more round, I'm sure I would have lost.
