I have started playing some anytime tournaments, and they've been very fun! I enjoy these much more than the regular single-elimination tournaments where you have to play at a certain hour. It never feels good to schedule a time to play, maybe even rent some cards, and be out of it in the first couple of rounds. For me, these have been much more satisfying to play.
Here's the prize pool:
In these tournaments, each person plays a number of game, usually 11, in a 24 hours period. The top X% (can be 20%, 30%, or 40%) advances to the next phase, which works exactly the same in the next 24 hours period. That means you only need enough time to submit all teams, twice, in two days! I have almost everything for Chaos Legion at the Silver level. The biggest cards I was missing for this tournament were Grandmaster Rathe and Uriel the Purifier but I have since bought them.
Tournament Report
I had not played any tournaments for about 2 weeks. First, tournaments had to be disabled due to some bugs. When the team fixed them, they added a few to test but none were good for me. After that, I had a week of vacation without my computer. Now I can finally play them again and it feels good to be back! Let's see how it goes!
Day 1:
Match 1:
https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sm_OB6qUdtSZVSCt01FeYYu&ref=olaf.gui
Very close game. My Cursed Windeku missed twice in a row and, in the end, I didn't get the two dodges I needed, for a win.
Match 2:
A free win is still a win!
Match 3:
https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sm_uFP6dmvzYQlxixA4cUzX&ref=olaf.gui
Diemonshark was really scary and there were decent chances I wouldn't have been able to kill it. However, after taking care of it, the game was mine.
Match 4:
https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sm_Iw3lJVel2G12DtrbuINc&ref=olaf.gui
Big level difference but it was still scary and close. Earthquake plus Noxious Fumes kill most monsters pretty fast.
Match 5:
https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sm_tWXelR2LzDrXOENxHDY8&ref=olaf.gui
Even though I had the level advantage, my opponent had the better position, so I lost. I still could have tied or even won if I had gotten some retaliates, but it's a good lesson for position.
Match 6:
https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sm_f55n1POHzTZHW4D0WvAh&ref=olaf.gui
I had much more damage per turn and a little more HP so it was an easy win. Most Back to Basics games are based on that.
Match 7:
https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sm_gyljbnD2MTvNvVWOJx5a&ref=olaf.gui
I had a big flier and they didn't. Carnage Titan was also pretty good with a lot of armor.
Match 8:
https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sm_KxV8fp6FDR1wYjlZ15n1&ref=olaf.gui
The level difference was too much for them to overcome.
Match 9:
https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sm_6UR996bEl2G5i00c2REE&ref=olaf.gui
I had higher levels and Disintegrator to weaken their entire team.
Match 10:
https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sm_ocaZWIhlDEGoPeZDCWmr&ref=olaf.gui
I lost the coin flip of which Goblin Psychic attacks first but their team might be a bit better than mine.
Match 11:
https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sm_eaotbSkiy2hrVAT11OwH&ref=olaf.gui
I didn't miss my attacks on Uriel, which allowed me to kill him before he healed on turn 2. After that, the game was done.
8-3 was a good start for the tournament. Let's see how day 2 goes!
Day 2:
Match 1:
https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sm_LOgDPwCjlFvNgPVIAULn&ref=olaf.gui
They had Xenith Monk instead of Magi of Chaos to have a bit more protection against Blast but I had more firepower. It ended up going in my favor.
Match 2:
https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sm_cFcw4P6wG63CzQCVKLwG&ref=olaf.gui
Riftwing is a good card in the Earthquake rule set but not against Regal Peryton.
Match 3:
https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sm_xD3avzZAi21KMFzI8NoS&ref=olaf.gui
Similar teams but my smaller monsters lived longer than theirs, in turn allowing the big monsters to take less damage. Winning the Carnage Titan coin flip helped too.
Match 4:
https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sm_xmQpXGs3WfmiQ66wv2PM&ref=olaf.gui
I was able to kill their Spirit Hoarder fast, which was a huge help not having it heal Riftwing.
Match 5:
https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sm_jvNihzanWi1zLyKP0MBK&ref=olaf.gui
Similar tams but I had a higher level Disintegrator and Legionnaire Alvar instead of Cruel Sethropod so I was at a big advantage.
Match 6:
https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sm_XLFOpyOFKrOivimkc4wH&ref=olaf.gui
I lost but I still think my team was better. I had to hit Regal Peryton twice in many attacks and I couldn't hit even once. Sometimes it just happens. I know it has flying and a big speed difference. However, I had enough attacks where hitting 2 was more likely than not.
Match 7:
https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sm_B9v6Eub1kO9hdY45HXJ5&ref=olaf.gui
Uriel at level 2 would have been a much bigger problem. Without healing, it's easier to deal with, even with a few misses. I have Magic attacks to get some certain hits, so, eventually, it's going to die.
Match 8:
https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sm_jpwzSLqcRXcwxkOg1hqE&ref=olaf.gui
Without armor, cards like Legionnaire Alvar become much weaker. I even killed River Hellondale first so they didn't get a revive.
Match 9:
https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sm_CL6rykciBvV5k5HLIrtQ&ref=olaf.gui
This game had a very interesting interaction. Mycelic Slipspawn with Forcefield only took 1 damage from each of Grund's attacks on turn 2, because Grund was enraged and had over 4 attack. It might have been a very different game if I was taking the full damage there.
Match 10:
https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sm_yhRWodcXRVIYNddAFvCW&ref=olaf.gui
I didn't go with Grum because there was no magic. However, that was a mistake and I needed some retaliates to even get a draw, against lower level cards. I was trying to come up with something different but it ended up not working out.
Match 11:
https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sm_cXNKwjtdwWf4z3Beq6Cb&ref=olaf.gui
I was scared when I missed a bunch of attacks in a row but Mycelic Infantry was a beast in the end with its 1 speed, hitting a bunch of attacks in a row!
9-1-1 on the second day for a 17-4-1 total. It was a great tournament and I could certainly have won the game I got a draw, if I wasn't a dingus! I placed 8th in the tournament, which put me in the "silver medal" of the prizes. That was the reason for the "Silver for Silver" title. Congratulations to NN-HS, the champion, and to everyone else who played!
I hope you enjoyed reading this and if that's the reason you decide to start participating in these tournaments, please let me know!
