Sweet memories

RDNE STOCK Project

Sometimes in life, someone will always feel like going back to her childhood experience, where all things look so sweet and admirable to look at.

Even sometimes, I do believe that adulthood is a scam because someone has to work to earn some money to take care of themselves and other needs.

I got home one day from work, and I was tired. Countless things were running through my mind at the same time: thinking of what to eat, no food at home, house rent, and other bills. Just then, I felt like going outside my flat to see the kids playing outside. I sat and watched them playing their games. The games were popular, and I also enjoyed playing them as a child. It's called Suwe. Drawing of five by six lines on the floor. Then lift one leg and cross each line.

Then, I decided to join the children to play the game. At first, the children were surprised. “Aunty, did you want to play the game too?”

I said “yes."

We started when it got to my turn, and I ended up building my own game house on the line. The children seem to be happy.

After we ended the game, one of them asked me and said,

“Aunty, you know how to play this game very well.”

I answered and said, “Yes because it was one of my best games when I was a kid too.".

Then another kid asked, “Can you show us another interesting game?”

I answered with all joy overflowing through me, “Let’s skip a rope together, and anyone who finally skips to 150 counts without stopping will have money for a snack, and if we all fail to reach 150 counts, I will keep my money back.” We all agreed to the terms and rules of the game.

They were six, including me.

Aunty plays with children. Yes! It sounds funny, but somehow it was a helpful thing for me and also for the kids to be lively.

We all started the game, hoping that someone would reach up to 150 counts. Then I noticed that most of them were anxious, determined, and earnest about it. It got to the extent that two of these reached up to 110 counts; when it got to 120 counts, they ended up tapping their feet on the floor so hard that they felt like crying. I said, “Game over.”

Then I asked them to go to their various flats as it was getting late, but I ended up giving them some snacks because they tried their best.

When I got inside my room, I felt relieved from thinking of the bills I would pay for that month.

Although, i find it so sweet and a fun thing to be with kids, most especially when they are playing.

Then I began to remember the sweetest memories of my childhood play experience.

Some seems to an educated one, while others seem like a fun game.

Isn't is wonderful when you can let down your hair and allow your inner child the freedom to play and experience innocent joy? I'm glad you got that respite when you needed it, omolayo.
