Battle Mage Secrets Weekly Challenge! - Explosive Weaponry

Hello Family and Guild Mate

image.png

Once again, another week of the weekly Battle Mage Challenge. The ruleset for this week is explosive weaponry. Explosive weaponry means that all units will have the blast ability. In this ruleset, expect to deal two damages: one to the target and the second to adjacent units due to the blast effect. In this ruleset, I often rely on speed in my attacks. The sooner you attack, the more likely you'll deplete the opponent's health due to the blast. Another strategy in attacking is using scattershot to bypass any taunt that the opponent might use. Sometimes, when facing a combination of opponents, the defense strategy involves using a taunt monster plus a reflection shield in the backline to prevent the blast effect from spreading to other monsters. To bypass the taunt, you need to use a scattershot. Another reason why scattershot is useful is that its attack spreads out when targeting only the front or back, affecting only one monster, compared to hitting the middle or second-to-last positions where two monsters can be affected by the blast.

I'll share a battle from the tournament I participated in where the ruleset was explosive weaponry, and the second ruleset was Aimless, Aimless where all units have the scattershot ability. Let's see the strategy I used to win this battle.

TEAM COMPOSITION

battle lineup.png

The summoner I chose for this battle is Possibilus The Wise to give all units an additional +2 health. And because I'll be using melee attackers in the battle, trample could be helpful if it triggers. For the 1st position, I chose Noa The Just, a no-attack monster with rust ability at level 2. The rust ability will help decrease the opponent's armor by -2. For the 2nd position, I chose Kulu Mastermind, a melee attacker with weapons training, opportunity, and shield abilities at level 2. Because of weapons training, both Noa The Just and Baakjira will have the melee attack ability. Kulu Mastermind's shield, on the other hand, provides a good defense to mitigate the blast effect if the opponent uses physical damage. For the 3rd position, I chose Baakjira, a no-attack monster with void, slow, and strengthen abilities at level 2. The slow ability will help decrease the opponent's speed by -1, which suits my gameplay strategy of relying on speed in my attacks. The strengthen ability will give +1 life to all units while Baakjira is still alive in the battle. For the 4th position, I chose Daarg Deadblast, a magic attacker with weapons training and swiftness abilities at level 1. His weapons training will provide the magic attack ability to Baakjira, and his swiftness will give an additional +1 speed to all units while he is still alive in the battle. In the 5th position, I chose Supply Runner, a ranged attacker with a swiftness ability. Supply Runner's swiftness ability will provide an additional +1 speed to all units while he is still alive. And for the last position, I chose Venari Wavesmith, a magic attacker with the protect ability, to give an additional +2 armor to all units while she is still alive.

KEYNOTES

image.png

Because Baakjira was sandwiched between two monsters with weapons training, each having a different attack ability, Baakjira gained two attack abilities: one magic attack from Daarg Deadblast and the other melee attack from Kulu Mastermind.

Due to Noa The Just's rust ability, the additional armor from the summoner was removed, allowing each attack of my units to penetrate freely, and the protection against blast in the opponent's backline was also eliminated.

Because I used two monsters with swiftness abilities and one with slow, I gained an advantage in speed against my opponent.

BATTLE SUMMARY

image.png

In round 1, because Tide Biter had the lowest health, Kulu Mastermind targeted it with his opportunity ability and killed it. As a result, the opponent's protection against the blast decreased further because Tide Biter had a reflection shield, which absorbed the blast effect. Also in this round, the opponent's Deeplurker died due to the blast from the attack on the Kulu Mastermind.

In round 2, Noa The Just killed Diemonshark. When he killed Diemonshark, the trample ability was triggered, so he also attacked the next position of the opponent, which was Kulu Mastermind. When Kulu Mastermind killed the opponent's Kulu Mastermind, his trample ability was also triggered, so he attacked Djinn Oshannus in the 2nd position. Because of this, the blast effect killed the opponent's Sea Stalker. Thus, Kulu Mastermind managed to kill two monsters in just one attack. With Djinn Oshabbus having very low health, he couldn't survive this round, so the battle ended in round 2.

CONCLUSION

  • Overall, my plan to focus on speed in attacking was a success. Not only does attacking first provide an opportunity, but being faster also increases the opportunity to deal significant damage due to the blast.

  • Noa The Just's rust ability also proved helpful in removing the opponent's armor and eliminating their defense against the blast.

  • The armor provided by Venari Wavesmith also contributed. Since the opponent primarily used melee attackers, the blast didn't immediately penetrate due to the armor from Venari Wavesmith.
