Madcap magi are wild mages of the myconids, a species of sentient, mobile mushrooms. Their magic is unpredictable, with oftentimes erratic and random effects.

While most practitioners of magic attempt to harness and control the elements, madcap magi believe this dampens the elements’ potential. Instead, they’ve learned to channel earth mana through their bodies and their staffs without restrictions, letting it run its course, come what may.

Hello beautiful people! I hope you're all doing great and if you're not, you will be soon! I'm back to the @Splinterlands art contest with a new fan art of the Madcap Magus card. The card is inspired by some kind of mushroom or something, but I wanted to do a more humanized version of it. Join me to see the process of this whole illustration below:

Hola gente bonita! Espero estén super bien todos y si no lo están, pronto lo estarán! Vuelvo al concurso de arte de @Splinterlands con un nuevo fan art de la carta Madcap Magus. La carta esta inspirada en una especie de hongo o algo así, pero yo quise hacer una versión mas humanizada de la misma. Acompáñenme a ver el proceso de toda esta ilustración a continuación:

I started making the sketch of the character and for that I took a drawing I had made for this year's Inktober. Challenge that by the way I didn't continue doing hahaha. What I did was to structure the whole character of Madcap Magus in this drawing that I had already done, adding elements and clothing of the same, to stay with the character itself.

Comencé haciendo el boceto del personaje y para ello tome un dibujo que había hecho para el Inktober de este año. Reto que por cierto no seguí haciendo jajaja. Lo que hice fue estructurar todo el personaje de Madcap Magus en este dibujo que ya había hecho, agregando elementos y vestimenta del mismo, para así quedar con el personaje en sí.

After having finished with all the sketch and having added everything I thought necessary for the character, I went on to do the line art work. For this point, I worked in Clip Studio Paint, which is the program I use to draw in digital. I used some nib brushes to make the line art, although later I made some changes in it, since there were some proportions that had been badly structured.

Luego de haber terminado con todo el boceto y de haber agregado todo lo que yo creí necesario para el personaje, pase a hacer el trabajo de line art. Para este punto, todo lo trabaje en Clip Studio Paint, el cual es el programa que uso para dibujar en digital. Use unos pinceles de plumilla para hacer el line art. Aunque mas adelante hice algunos cambios en el mismo, ya que habían unas proporciones que me habían quedado mal estructuradas.

After I had done the line art, I continued with the color work on the whole illustration. I added a base color in the whole character and a base color in the background. I started detailing the face and skin, adding redness in the cheeks, nose, mouth and so on. I used watercolor brushes to work all these details, as it reminds me of when I work in traditional and I feel comfortable using this kind of brushes.

Luego de haber hecho el line art, seguí con el trabajo de color en toda la ilustración. Agregue un color base en todo el personaje y un color base en el fondo. Comencé a detallar la cara y piel, agregando rojeces en los cachetes, nariz, boca y demás. Use pinceles de acuarela para trabajar todos estos detalles, ya que me recuerda a cuando trabajo en tradicional y me siento a gusto usando este tipo de pinceles la verdad.

The truth is that I worked on the whole character using watercolor brushes, as I told you before, but I also used brushes that are included in the program and that also adapt a little to my style of drawing. When I had the illustration very advanced, what I did was to add shadows and lights. I added the shadows with a watercolor brush and the lights and glows with a brush from Clip Studio Paint. Finally and to finish this illustration, I made some details of lights in the composition, so as not to leave the background so empty. To the cane I added some flashes of light as seen in the original card and I also added some fluorescent butterflies, so that they would match with the lights of the cane and that's all, that would be all.

La verdad fui trabajando todo el personaje usando pinceles de acuarela, como les había dicho antes, pero también use pinceles que están de fabrica en el programa y que también se adaptan un poco a mi estilo de dibujo. Cuando tuve muy avanzada la ilustración, lo que hice fue agregar sombras y luces. Las sombras las agregue con un pincel de acuarela y las luces y brillos con un pincel de fabrica del Clip Studio Paint. Por ultimo y para culminar con esta ilustración, hice algunos detalles de luces en la composición, para no dejar el fondo tan vació. Al bastón le agregue algunos destellos de luz como se ven el la carta original y también agregue unas especies de mariposas fluorescentes, para que así hiciesen juego con la luces del bastón y listo amigos, eso seria todo.
