BATTLE MAGE SECRETS Weekly Challenge! TARGET PRACTICE

Hello there.
Today I'll share my battle under the Target Practice ruleset. But first, I will share some of my thoughts regarding it. With the Target Practice ruleset, all Ranged and Magic monsters have the Snipe ability. This also affects monsters that have dual attack types. In a battle with both Target Practice and Equal Opportunity, both Range/Magic and Melee attack will have the Snipe targeting active. Snipe takes precedence over the Opportunity ability.
In this ruleset, I usually try to include a Martyr card since most of them are non-melee. I will then place it in the second position and trigger the Martyr ability very early. I also favor abilities that can affect the backline as well. Triage and Repair are good options to keep the team healthy. Since the damage can be split because of the ruleset, I don't favor Taunt here as much.

Of course, the ones above are just guidelines. Since we can have up to 3 rulesets in a battle, these can change quickly. If I see that Melee is strong with the other ruleset, I might still include a Taunt monster at the back.
I believe that being flexible in battle is the ideal strategy. Check the opponent's history, check what they are most likely to use, and counter it. But always pick teams that can also counter different strategies.
Without further ado, let's get into the battle.
The Ruleset

This was a tournament battle, so it was a Silver battle with Target Practice, Armored Up, and Heavy Hitters Rulesets. A 24 mana battle is on the normal amount. Only the Death element is not available, and I can think of a lot of different strategies for each, so I will try to counter as much as I can.
The ideal team for Fire is Pyre with a magic team together with Technowizologist to take advantage of the rulesets. For Water, Oshannus in the second position is expected. Including Water Caller can be good for the Stun. For Earth, a magic team is expected. It is only a matter of which summoner to use. Obsidian for damage, Immortalis for flexibility and defense, and Llama for a cheese team. For Life, Ilthain with Iziar can be an option. Life has a lot of available strategies including Grandmaster Rathe + Pelacor Conjurer as well. Dragon has a lot of available monsters that can work with the teams above.
The Lineup
| Card | Ability | Comments |
|---|---|---|
![]() | Increases the Speed of ally monsters by 1 and has Conscript | Gladiator cards are really strong so I want to use them. I also want to increase my Speed to hopefully attack first. |
![]() | Martyr | I want my Quora to turn into an unkillable monster, so adding Martyr stacks gets it there faster. |
![]() | Bloodlust, Heal | Quora is my one monster army. It is my tank, my damage dealer, and it can support itself with heal and armor refresh after a kill. |
![]() | Martyr, Blind | Because of Target Practice this Martyr monster should die eventually, but even if it doesn't, the Blind is very helpful. |
![]() | Scavenger | Kra'ar Xoc serves as my secondary tank against Sneak and Snipe. Once Quora is in the front, I'm hoping Kra'ar can tank a lot of damage. |
![]() | Dodge | My Sneak and Opportunity tank/bait. It can also serve as the last Snipe bait. |
For me, between the lineups I mentioned above, I'd rather go with a Quora team to counter them. There is not a lot of mana available, so Quora should not be killed too quickly. I placed the 3HP martyr in front so it can die while also tanking some damage. My only concern is if my opponent used a front monster that doesn't attack, and my Quora never goes to the front.
The Battle
The Matchup

My opponent decided to go with a Life Katie team which I did not consider. Because of Target Practice, Katie will usually have a lot of competition with the Snipe target, and can miss out on the kill. The opponent did not do that howerver, and just included a Shieldbearer, as well as a Uraeus. Honestly, I'm not a fan of their team composition and strategy. They split their damage too much, with one attacking the front, another attacking the Snipe target, and another attacking a Sneak target. Just from that, I am liking my odds of winning.
End of Round 1

This shows the first advantage of Quora in this ruleset. Katie is targeting Quora, but because of its Heal, the damage is negated. Meanwhile my team is slowly whittling down their Shieldbearer. The lack of focus also shows how the opponent is taking a while to kill one of my monsters.
End of Round 2

It is a bit of a shame that even with Dodge, Blind, and 1 speed difference, my Chaos Agent wasn't able to evade an attack from Uraeus. But in the overall state of the battle, it already bought the necessary time needed. The Shieldbearer is slowly dying while Quora is still healthy. Katie has been useless for 2 turns already.
End of Round 3

My Marksrat finally died, and Quora is finally in the first position, and with the perfect battle situation as well. Quora can one shot the Shieldbearer and immediately put Kating in front. This is looking like a win.
End of Round 4

Uraeus missed its second attack against my Kra'ar, and Katie should die next round. I will just skip to the end of the battle since the opponent no longer has any chance of winning.
End of the Battle

I will have to say that I was sure I was going to win that battle. Katie is strong, but Quora usually wins the matchup. The few times I see Katie win over Quora is when healing is not allowed. The opponent's team composition and targeting is also not optimal.
The Result

Conclusion
In tournaments where there are additional limitations on top of the Rulesets and banned elements, I try to make it a point to look at the possible teams and imagine them fighting against one another. I will then choose the team which I think is best. For this specific battle, my opponent used a team composition that I think wasn't optimal. I had the better team, and I was able to get the win.
