Documenting my Splinterlands Knowledge - I went back to Wild

Hello there.

The new Splinterlands ranked season has recently started. Since I reached Silver last season, my Season Chest this time around is also Silver. After the rating reset, I had a rating of 600 in Modern, and 300 in Wild. I tried to alternate between the two leagues. I was getting around 0.1SPS per win in Modern Bronze, while I got 0.005 SPS in Wild Bronze.

With regards to the battles, I wasn't able to get a streak in Modern. I would get up to 2 wins, and then face a strong opponent and lose. It was a very slow climb. With Wild though, it was the complete opposite. I was winning a lot because I was facing a lot of novice level teams. Even though the bonus rating in win streaks was nerfed, I was able to catch up and exceed my Modern rating in no time. The SPS is still very low, but I am getting more points for my chest.

I ended my day at Wild with the rating of 980. For this season I decided that I will try going Wild instead. For the whole of last season in Modern, the highest I got was Silver 3, and I had a difficult time winning because I was facing a lot of Silver teams, while I have a mix of both Bronze and Silver level monsters, and even some level 1 cards. With silver season chest, I won't get much if I stay and grind it out in Modern.

The next day, I had my taste of Wild Silver again. I used to play at this level a lot before, but I only switched to Modern when they implemented the no bots there, as well as the SPS staking requirement. Since I played a lot of tournaments and got a good amount of SPS, I have a enough SPS staked to get x8 multiplier in Silver 1. I was surprised that I was facing level 1 teams up to Silver 2. In Silver 1, that was when I started having battles against Bronze level decks. This is so much easier than how I remembered it, and even more so than Modern Bronze. With regards to the SPS, near Silver 1 I was getting as much as, if not more SPS per win now compared to Modern. So this was definitely the better choice. I ended the day with a Wild rating of 1880; just 1 win shy of Gold.

This is where I had a big decision to make. If I win and promote to Gold league, I will then have Gold Season Chests next season. I only have around x8 multiplier from my Staked SPS, so I will be even lower when I go to Gold league. One option is to just go back in Modern and grind it out. The other one is to alternate with wins and losses in Wild just before going Gold. But with 13 days still left in the season, both don't look like great options. Since battles were still easy, I decided to go to Gold league.

Playing Gold battles, I still face level 1 teams. But I did notice an uptick in Bronze level ones. As I continue to get higher rating, I start to face stronger opponents. Some had level 5-6 summoners, some were using alpha/beta summoners, and I am facing players with guilds. While that isn't a surefire way to tell that they are real people, it is usually those with better decks.

Since there is still a long way away from the end of the season, I will see what my current deck can reach. At 2400 rating, I'm now down to x5.53 boost. I am getting around 0.25 SPS per win in my regular battles, and up to more than 0.3 SPS when I have some GF and Focus cards. Since I still had Silver Season and Daily chest, I was getting a good amount of points. But my daily chest will become Gold chests once it resets. I am actually thinking if I should rent SPS once that happens. I am still winning more than I'm losing, so I am curious if I can reach Diamond with my shitty under leveled deck. If ever that happens, I might even look at getting cards from NFTY arcade. But I would like to avoid that if I can help it, since they take a cut from earnings.

I think this has been an interesting journey, and it has only just begun. I usually target my posts to newer/weaker players, but with the recent changes, and my current rank state, that might be difficult. What I can say from my initial experience is that Wild is so much easier than Modern Bronze. I think my matches until 2400 rating are still easier compared to Modern Bronze. If one is stuck in Modern Bronze it is possible to earn more SPS per win in Wild. The biggest obstacle though will be the SPS staked amount. I have 11k staked and I already need more. For newer players, this can be difficult, and they might need to buy/rent SPS.

I will probably update my progress in my post next week. But for now I am having fun playing again. I know I am facing a lot of bots, but I like winning and earning more. It was a nice feeling beating players in Modern, but it can be frustrating when I have to face Gold and up level teams for my 3rd win. Since I will have Gold Season chests next season, I will probably stick to Wild until the end of next season.

That is it for my initial experience of going back to the Wild format. I am excited to share my journey, and I hope those players struggling in Modern can give it a try. Don't hesitate to let me know what you think, and if you have suggestions for improvement.
