Splinterlands Chaos Legion Sneak Peak - Airdrops, Vouchers, and Managing Power Creep

Since the Untamed edition packs sold out back in June, players have been clamoring for a new source of NFT trading cards to use in the game and the Splinterlands team has promised players a new edition of cards called the "Chaos Legion" which will be released in October. In this post, I'll cover the most important details about the upcoming Splinterlands Chaos legion set including the price, the "voucher system" required to purchase packs, and what steps the team is doing to mitigate power creep and ensure that older cards retain their value while also introducing new and exciting cards and abilities.

Although I have covered most of the points in-depth in the video, I wanted to provide a quick "need to know" summary here.

  1. The pack sale is intended to start on October 18th, 2021. Each pack will cost $4 USD and will contain 5 cards with at least one rare or better. Players who purchase packs with SPS governance tokens receive a 10% discount.

  2. In addition to the $4 cost payable in a variety of cryptos, credits, or fiat, players will need to spend one "voucher" per pack they purchase. This voucher is a fully tradeable item that is granted from staking SPS and can also be bought or sold on secondary markets.

  3. There will be staggered bulk discounts with players who purchase 100 packs receiving 10% bonus packs and players who purchase 2,000 packs receiving a 20% pack bonus.

  4. There will be an additional 13 airdropped cards released throughout the Chaos Legion series. Players who purchase pack will receive a chance at each of these airdrops while players who purchase during the presale will have a chance at an exclusive "presale only" drop.
