Splinterlands Chaos Legion Updates and Voucher Strategy!
Splinterlands is one of the top blockchain based games and is in the middle of it’s presale for the upcoming Chaos Legion NFT pack presale. Splinterlands initially introduced a voucher system that distributed vouchers to players based on their SPS token holdings, but recently announced that players will NOT need to use vouchers to purchase Chaos Legion packs after the presale and subsequent 2 million pack public sale. Although vouchers won’t be required for this general sale, the Splinterlands says that they will still play a role in the future of the game moving forward. In this post, I’ll cover my thoughts on the voucher updates as well as giving my take on the Doctor Blight promo card.
As expected, the announcement that vouchers won't be needed after the initial presale and limited public sale put considerable downward pressure on the prices of vouchers and they are now selling at just above $14. Although Splinterlands does say that the vouchers will have continued utility in the game, I think my personal strategy will be to sell the vouchers and use that "free" money later on to buy packs during the general sale. Maybe I'll change my mind though, so don't take my strategy as advice.
As we saw with the Untamed packs, prices skyrocketed after Splinterlands announced that they were officially sold out. When they were in print, players could purchase Untamed packs for $2 directly from Splinterlands, but they are now selling for almost $80 on the secondary market. If the Chaos Legion follows a similar pattern, the returns from selling the vouchers and HODLing the unopened packs could provide a nice return.
The Splinterlands team also dropped a sneak preview of the Doctor Blight card that will be released as a promo card in conjunction with the Chaos Legion presale. Just based on first impressions, I've got to say that I see this card becoming incredibly popular. The artwork is amazing and so are the stats. For only 4 Mana, you get a card that can attack from anywhere on the battlefield with its magic ability. In addition, Doctor Blight has the "Slow" ability which reduces the speed of the entire opposing team AND the "Affliction" ability which can prevent the opponent's monsters from being able to heal damage. All that for a cost of only 4 Mana is quite a bargain, and I see this card getting a lot of play time in future decks.
Summary
As always, nothing is financial advice, but I do think that the recent Splinterlands updates are quite positive, and I think the team has found a good balance between ensuring that new players who may not have a lot of SPS (and hence vouchers) are able to purchase packs while also preserving the value of the vouchers for players who do hold the packs. Doctor Blight appears to be quite a nice card, and I hope the rest of the Chaos Legion is filled with similarly high quality cards. As always, thanks for reading.
