Hello everyone! Pozdrav svima!

This week I'm going to show you how to deal with Silenced Summoners ruleset. What to look for, what are benefits of this ruleset, what cards go well with it and finally an interesting battle featuring this ruleset.

~~ THE RULESET ~~

First of all lets see what this ruleset is all about. How to counter it or how to take advantage of it.

silencedsummoners.png

Description: Summoners do not give any buffs/debuffs or grant/use abilities.

Main thing to do when faced with this ruleset is to use your lowest cost and highest level summoner you have available, preferably a summoner with no abilities to preserve mana.

~~ How to take advantage of Silenced Summoners ~~

As I already said, there is only one, golden rule when faced with this ruleset - the cheaper the better. Since you can't make use of any summoner's abilities, you look for the cheapest summoner you can use to preserve mana so you can use it when picking other monsters. One more thing you have to keep in mind, when Dragon splinter is available, if you can, pick a Dragon summoner, since you open up more possibilities when picking you line-up.

The KING of this ruleset is Prince Julian (pun intended 😝) - Dragon splinter summoner that costs only 2 mana. Of course, he's super rare card, very expensive, so if you're that lucky to have it - USE IT. Also, he's only available in Wild format.

If you don't have him, don't worry, there are great alternatives out there. If you're playing in Wild format there are five Epic Beta summoners (one in each splinter) that also cost only 2 mana.

In Modern format league there are no 2 mana summoners but there is plenty of 3 mana summoners you can pick from - every splinter have at least two summoners you can pick from. Just like in Wild format, the KING of Silenced Summoners ruleset is a Dragon splinter summoner - but this time an Epic (3 mana) - Kretch Tallevor.

You're probably asking - why an Epic summoner, and not Legendary Camila Sungazer?

Now, this is important - if you play in Gold league (like I do), or in Bronze, there is one more advantage of these Epic summoners - you can use Rare monsters of one level higher then normally with other rarity summoners.

This means when you pick an Epic summoner you can use Rare monster of level 3 in Bronze league (instead of normal level 2) and in level 7 in Gold league (instead of normal level 6).

In Bronze league you will probably get an extra attack for those rare monsters at level 3, or some additional stat. But in Gold league is where it gets interesting - some of the monsters get additional ability on level 7.

I will mention a few of them I use in Gold league on regular basis, and those abilities they have at level 7 can make a big difference in a battle.

As you can see these abilities they get at level 7 can be a decisive factor in certain battles and if you can, make sure you have them ready when needed.

I have to mention a few more monsters I use regularly that don't get new ability on level 7 but they get additional attack, which can also be a battle winning factor:

  • Fineas Rage (Fire - melee)
  • Exploding rats (Fire - melee)
  • Molten Ash Golem (Fire - ranged)
  • Scavo Firebolt (Fire - ranged)
  • Giant Squid (Water - ranged)
  • Luminous Eagle (Life - melee)
  • Pelacor Arbalest (Life - ranged)
  • Shieldbearer (Life - melee)
  • Vulguine (Life - melee)
  • Cursed Windeku (Death - melee)
  • Runic Skyclaw (Dragon - ranged)
  • Elven Mystic (Neutral - magic)

~~ BATTLE REPORT ~~

Now let's get into the battle featuring Silenced Summoners ruleset. Unfortunately, I couldn't find a battle with any of those Rare cards I mentioned before, but it was still very interesting battle, as it shows how big of a difference can Kretch Tallevor be, with Dragon splinter monsters and that 1 less mana he costs.

~~ BATTLE RULESET ~~

Ruleset in this battle was just perfect for a nice showcase of advantage the right choice of summoner brings to the table because of the low mana pool.

I will try to explain each part of the ruleset, so you get the better understanding what was I thinking when I picked my line-up.

Ruleset.png

Fog of War
Monsters lose the Sneak, Snipe and Opportunity abilities.
A good tank and a balanced line up of Magic and Ranged monsters is the trick to win in this ruleset. Keep your monsters in an ascending order of their HP.

Heavy Hitters
All Monsters have the Knock Out ability.
Use a monster with Stun ability if you can. If Stun is successful, all your monsters will deal double damage to that stunned opponent.

Silenced Summoners
Summoners do not give any stat buffs or debuffs or grant/use any abilities.
Use a summoner with no abilities to preserve mana, if possible Dragon splinter to widen your choice of monsters.

Mana cap for this match is 18 mana
This is pretty low mana pool, so we have to be careful with choice of low mana monsters.

Available splinters
For this match we had Fire, Life, Death and Dragon splinters available. My opponent chose Dragon with Death splinters and I chose Dragon with Life splinter.

~~ STRATEGY REVIEW ~~

When I saw the ruleset with Silenced Summoners and Dragon splinter available that automatically means - Kretch Tallevor summoner. Fog of War means I need a strong tank with some kind of damage mitigation or damage reflexion. Since the mana pool was low I could go with Fire splinter and Antoid Platoon or Death splinter and Crypt Beetle to mitigate melee and ranged damage.

But I had a feeling that my opponent will use magic damage, as people usually do in low mana battle, so I chose Life splinter and amazing cheap card (only 2 mana) - Pelacor Conjurer as a tank. With his Flying ability he's able to dodge some melee attacks and with Magic Reflect he returns damage to magic attackers. Behind him usually goes Dax Paragon for Amplify and Venari Crystalsmith for Tank Heal, with remaining mana I chose amazing Doctor Blight for the Poison and Affliction both very useful abilities.

My opponent chose Quix the Devious as summoner and lost 1 mana there already. As a tank he put Xenith Monk, very good tank for low mana matches, but he didn't back him up with proper support monsters and his damage dealers were mostly magic attack, dealing more damage to themselves then to my Conjurer.

~~ LINE-UP ~~

You can see the line-up from both teams in battle screenshot right after this section. I will go through my line-up and explain why was each card picked and put in that spot.

SUMMONER
Summoner

KRETCH TALLEVOR

Dragon splinter epic summoner that has no special abilities but costs only 3 mana.

I chose this summoner because of the low mana cost and possibility of using Dragon monsters.
1st POSITION ("TANK")
Tank

PELACOR CONJURER

Life splinter common tank card. Costs only 2 mana and has pretty good 5 speed and 7 health.

Flying - Chance of evading (+25%) Melee or Ranged attacks from non-flying Monsters.
Magic Reflect - When hit with Magic damage, does reduced Magic damage back to the attacker.
Divine Shield - The first time the Monster takes damage it is ignored.

I picked this monster as a tank because I predicted magic attack from the opponent and it can evade melee or ranged attacks too.
2nd POSITION
2ndPosition

HORNY TOAD

Neutral common melee attack card that costs 3 mana.

Reach - This melee monster can attack from the second position on the team.
Poison - Attacks have a chance to apply poison.

I picked this monster to deal damage from 2nd position and preferably apply poison that would deal additional damage.
3rd POSITION
3rdPosition

SOUL FIEND

Life splinter legendary card. Costs 0 mana, has 1 Melee attack.

I picked this monster because to fill a spot in the line-up and add additional target for opponent team before they get to my man damage dealers.
4th POSITION
4thPosition

DAX PARAGON

Life splinter epic card. Costs only 2 mana, has 1 Magic attack.

Amplify - Increases Magic Reflect, Return Fire, and Thorns damage to all enemy monsters by 1.
Affliction - 50% chance of applying Affliction (cannot be healed) on the target.

I picked this monster to Amplify Magic Reflect of the Conjurer and eventually keep their tank from healing.
5th POSITION
5thPosition

DOCTOR BLIGHT

Amazing Neutral legendary card. Costs 4 mana, does 2 magic attack and it's simply awesome.

Affliction - 50% chance of applying Affliction (cannot be healed) on the target.
Camouflage - This Monster cannot be targeted unless it's in the first position.
Poison - Attacks have a chance to apply poison.
Scavenge - Gains 1 max health each time any monster dies.

I picked this monster because it's one of the best cards in the game, low mana cost and full of great, useful abilities.
6th POSITION
6thPosition

VENARI CRYSTALSMITH

Life splinter rare support card. Costs 4 mana and has 1 ranged attack.

Tank Heal - Restores a portion (1/3 of max HP) of the Monster in the first position's health each round.
Dispel - When this monster hit an enemy, it clears all positive status effects on that enemy.

I picked this monster to heal the tank and deal some damage in the process.

~~ THE BATTLE ~~

This was pretty short battle, with everything decided already in 2nd round. But, let us see how it went exactly...

Round 1

Round1.jpg

First move my opponent's monsters did was to Death Elemental took a shot at my Conjurer and got killed from the Magic Reflect. Tortisian Chief also got some damage reflected back to him which didn't help him a lot. My Doctor Blight put up a Poison on their tank which helped in getting him killed the next round.

Round 2

Round2.jpg

In round 2 almost everything was resolved, poisoned Xenith Monk died from the first shot, Corpse Fiend soon followed and Tortisian Chief brought himself to 1 HP getting killed on the next move.

Round 3

Round3.jpg

Weirding Warrior was left all alone in the third round, without being able to shoot his ranged attack from the first position. He was a sitting duck for my Venary Crystalsmith who dealt the winning killing blow.

~~ RESULT ~~

Result.png

This was a one way fight from the start. The Magic Reflect from my Pelacor Conjurer did half of the work.

Very nice SPS reward from Modern ranked battles these days.. 🤑
