Battle Challenge
Hey guys,
today I have a really nice battle as part of the Battle Challenge for you.
The Card
The card I want to highlight from this battle is Onyx Sentiel, a reward card from the Dice and Untamed set.
Onyx Sentinel is a neutral epic card with no attack and a couple of abilities:
Level 1 - Shield
Level 3 - Void
Level 5 - Thorns
Level 6 - Return Fire
Making it a fantastic tank against anything at max level, but already very good in my opinion at level 3, which is silver league.
The card is very similar to the powerful Lord Arianthus, who however, is no longer playable in Modern format and thus Onyx Sentinel makes a great substitution.
At $3,1 per BCX the card is comparably cheap, but not one of the cheapest epics out there.

The Line Up & Strategy
With no melee monsters allowed it was certain that we were facing magic or ranged and with every magic and ranged monster having snipe I wanted to have a tank in the second position, that could absorb both.
This is why I went with Onyx Sentinel in the second spot. As my "tank" position I used Hero of Beyond, because he can attack with Close Range and has good health and some armor. I used Djinn Renova in the third spot to give all my monsters a little more health and because she can attack from the first spot with her magic attack, in case both Hero of Beyond and Onyx Sentinel die. I filled up the rest of the team with the main damage dealers for a General Sloan team: Pelacor Arbalest and Prismologist and used Supply Runner for some extra damage and the speed buff, to increase the chances of me going first.
The general idea behind the line up was to have Onyx Sentinel tank all the damage and have my own damage dealers tear through their backline.
Let's see how I did!
Round 1
My opponent went with a mix of magic and ranged attacks and used Owster as their summoner to reflect any magic damage. Luckily I only have Djinn Renova and the rest deals ranged damage. They also used a very beefy monster in the second position with Cthulu to absorb the snipe damage.
We start off by trading blows and right off the bat we can see the difference between the tanks. Where as I take down the Cthulu very quickly, which allows my Prismologist to get off a big hit against Riftwing and some damage to Ancient Lich through blast, their entire team wasn't able to take out Onyx Sentinel in the first round. This looks very promising.
Round 2
Round 2 they take out Onyx Sentinel immediately, but after that Supply Runner takes out Riftwing, Djinn Renova takes out Ancient Lich (both before they can attack) and Pelacor Arbalest takes out Lira. Finally Prismologist drops his bomb on Dhampir Stalker, which survives with 1 HP and deals 2 blast damage to Djinn Muirat. Hero of Beyond takes him down further to 2 HP. The Dhampir Stalker does finish off my Djinn Renova, which was weakened from the magic reflect.
This round was pure fireworks!
Round 3
With Hero of Byond still standing strong as my tank and my monsters having the speed advantage, I take quick care of the remaining low health Djinn Muirat and Dhampir stalker and secure the win.
Conclusion
Strategy worked like a charm! Usually magic is superior to ranged, because it can attack from the first position, can't miss and ignores armor, but I felt like mixing it up a little and General Sloans damage output is just unmatched. Paired with the Onyx Sentinel who tanked the entire first round's damage this was very fun and I can only advice anyone who's serious about competitive play to get a copy as long as they are this cheap!
