Battle Challenge Djinn Oshannus.png

Hi guys,

it's time for this weeks Battle Challenge and what an exciting battle I have to show you! Let's jump right into the action!

The Card

The card I want to highlight from this battle is Djinn Oshannus, you'll see why in a bit 😉

I've talked so much about this card in previous posts, but I'll never get tired of saying it: Djinn Oshannus is OP. For 8 mana you get amazing stats.

  • High Health
  • High Speed
  • Magic Damage

plus amazing abilities

  • Void
  • Phase
  • Forcefield

making him an absolute beast of a tank, while at the same time being able to deal some damage. He works with every water summoner and in every situation. I love this card!

And the best part: He's dirt cheap, you can get a copy for as little as $2,2.

The Ruleset

The rules were Spreading Fury with 34 mana and Fire, Water and Life available to play.

Speed is very strong in Spreading Fury rulesets, because enraged monsters get a multiplier on their Speed and Attack. The best way to counter this is either Kitty (which wasn't available) or magic damage, as that can't miss. With Djinn Oshannus I made sure to have a tank which can dodge melee, ranged and magic attacks (Phase), has great Speed and Health and deals magic damage himself. Kelya and Supply Runner were used for additional Speed buffs and Merdaali Guardian to heal the damage Djinn Oshannus would eventually take. I then went for the classical Sneak duo with Bandit and Uraeus and a River Hellondale to buff their attack's and Resurrect is also always nice to have.

The Battle

I won't go into detail round for round as I usually do, because this battle is quite long and there's a lot of repairs and heals. Instead I'll highlight the most important rounds or moments in the battle.

Let's take a look at their line up first. We are up against a Peakrider, which gives a lot of Armor to the team and -1 ranged attack to my Supply Runner. In The front we have a Chain Golem, which is super tanky with his 9 Armor, Shield and Void. And in the backline we have a bunch of support cards giving Repair, Resurrect, Protect, Swiftness, Slow and all dealing magic damage. There are no Sneak, Snipes or Opportunity though, so at least all of that damage will be going towards our own tank.

Round 2

The first important round is round 2. We manage to get through Soul Fiend's armor with our sneak attacks and kill it. Adelade Brightwing does resurrect it, but that's a resurrect I'm gladly taking, as the Chain Golem would've been a much better target for that. So far Oshannus managed to get a couple of dodges and stay healthy.

Round 4

Round 4 is probably the pivotal point in the battle. We get through the Soul Fiend again and take it out for good this time, finally ready to attack the backline support cards and hopefully taking them out one after another. On the other side Oshannus goes down and is resurrected by River Hellondale and healed to 4 health by Merdaali Guardian. Hellondale then also takes out the Chain Golem and with no resurrect left on the enemy team, the most dangerous obstacle is out of the way.

Round 5

Round 5 seals the deal as Oshannus ever so slightly hangs on to dear life, dodging an attack and getting healed just enough to survive. While my sneak duo doesn't manage to get through the armor (which is also being repaired by Adelade), without the Chain Golem Oshannus' and Adelade's combined 4 magic damage is too much for the opponent.

Slowly but surely their supports get pulled into first position and being taken care off, while the Void ability and heal make Oshannus invincible!

Conclusion

Bildschirmfoto 2022-06-08 um 23.14.33.png
My strategy with using Oshannus as a tank in Spreading Fury worked out quite well. Even though he died once, the resurrect, heal and dodging made sure he would come back to life and stay alive throughout the entire battle. In the beginning it looked really tough, as my sneak attacker's weren't making great progress due to all that armor. As the battle went on and the Chain Golem fell however, it slowly unveiled that they didn't have enough fire power to take out Oshannus and that I would slowly but steadily take them apart. This is one of the best feelings and the decent amount of rshares I earned made it even better!

One last thing I want to point out is the difference deck value, measured by current market prices.

At current PeakMonster bulk buy prices, my deck came in at a total of $154.381 vs their $1104.404! My deck was also fully build from the Chaos Legion edition and it's reward cards, where as their's had Alpha, Beta, Untamed and older reward cards. My point is that it's not always about who has the deepest pockets and can buy the most expensive cards, but about skill and that you can build very competitive decks comparably cheap.
