Splinterlands Battle Challenge - Spineback Turtle

avatar

Hello fellow Splinterlands fans. I hope you all had a wonderful New Year's Eve Celebration with your family and friends. Its our first Battle Challenge for this year and its featuring a card that I've been using a lot before the Chaos Legion update, Spineback Turtle. I used to play it as a tank along with Magic Attack monsters and Alric Stormbringer as summoner. Lets try using it again on this battle but this time using a different Summoner and lineup.

Lineup Strategy

Summoner: Kelya Frendul

We're using this card as our Summoner to add 1 armor and speed to our lineup. The +1 armor is vital in the lineup that we'll be using in this battle.

Tank: Spineback Turtle

We're using our featured card of the week as tank. It has a decent amount of armor and health that gives it a high chance of surviving several rounds protecting our team from attacks at the front.

Djinn Oshannus

This monster will be our backup tank. Its Void ability that reduces damage from Magic attacks will be useful if our opponent uses monsters with Magic attack. Since it also uses Magic attack, it can also do damage while on the 2nd position.

Scavo Hireling

We'll be using this monster's Repair ability, that restores some armor to the friendly Monster whose armor has taken the most damage, to prevent or reduce the damage taken by our monsters from Melee and Ranged attacks.

Merdaali Guardian

The healer in our lineup. Its ability restores a portion of the Monster in the first position's health each round.

Deeplurker

This monster's Opportunity ability will be one of our key strategies in eliminating our opponent's lineup efficiently. It can attack from any position and will target the enemy Monster with the lowest health. We're placing it on this position to protect our healers from Sneak attacks just in case our monster in the last position dies early in the battle.

Ice Pixie

At the last position in our lineup is Ice Pixie. Its Flying ability will be useful in evading Melee and Ranged attacks. We've placed it in the last position to protect DeepLurker from sneak attacks. It also uses Magic attack that can do direct damage ignoring armor.

Battle Highlights

Our opponent chose the Fire Splinter and used Tarsa as summoner boosting Melee attack and Health of friendly monsters. There's also an enemy monster with the Demoralize ability that reduces the Melee attack of all enemy Monsters

While Djinn Oshannus and Ice Pixie were attacking the enemy tank, Deeplurker was able to eliminate an enemy monster in one attack on Round 1.

Round 2 was quite a steady fight although the enemy tank is already hanging on its 1 remaining health. Ice Pixie was also able to do its job of protecting Deeplurker causing the enemy monster to miss its Sneak attack.

Djinn Oshannus was able to eliminate the enemy tank on Round 3. Our opponent has already lost 2 monsters while our team is still complete at this point.

Deeplurker was able to eliminate another enemy monster that's already low on health using its Opportunity ability on Round 4.

Djinn Oshannus eliminated the enemy monster with the Demoralize ability on Round 5 gaining back the 1 Melee attack it debuffed our team.

Deeplurker once again eliminated an enemy monster on Round 6. This leaves our opponent a harmless Ranged monsters on the 1st position that can no longer attack.

Djinn Oshannus took the last shot eliminating the remaining enemy monster on our opponent's side of the battlefield. It was a flawless victory for our team.

Conclusion

Our opponent had a solid lineup. We just had a slight advantage because of our healers and Ice Pixie's evasion that we were able to win this battle. If you were able to watch the battle replay, you would notice how they supported our damage dealers Deeplurker and Djinn Oshannus in this battle. It was because of their team work that we were able to achieve victory.

Did your strategy work? What will you try differently next time?

Our plan of using Spineback Turtle's high armor and our healers abilities worked perfectly. When our tank had no armor or was directly damaged, our healers were there restore him back ready for the next attack. Giving our damage dealers the time they needed to eliminate the enemy monsters flawlessly.

Do you like the SPINEBACK TURTLE? Why or why not?

I like Spineback Turtle because of its high health and decent armor with a low mana cost of just 4. Its quite a sturdy tank on low mana matches.

I hope you had fun watching our featured battle for this week. See you again next week on our next battle challenge. Wishing you all a happy and prosperous New Year!!!

What is Splinterlands?

Splinterlands is a digital, collectible card game built on blockchain technology. It is similar in concept to games like Magic the Gathering and Heartstone where you build up a collection of cards, which all have various different stats and abilities, and use them to battle other players in skill-based matches. By using a blockchain technology, players can buy, sell and trade their digital assets freely just as if they were physical cards, and all transactions are recorded publicly and immutably.
