Hello, Splinter fans how are you today, what league you play now ? Today I will make a blog again about the Splinterlands contest Battle Mage Secrets Challenge. This Week's Theme is Born Again ruleset.

I play in the Modern Format Diamond League, using my scholar account from **Balthazar I only use cheap cards like Chaos, Reward, and some Neutral.

Ruleset

  • Silent Summoner.png Silenced Summoners, summoners do not give any stat buffs or debuffs or grant/use any abilities.

  • What Doesn't Kill You, all monster has Enrage ability.

    • Enrage ability, has increased Speed when damaged, multiplier x1.5 rounded up.
  • firefox_ypxotnbLdI.png Born Again ruleset all monsters have the Rebirth ability.
    • Rebirth ability, when this monster dies it will self-resurrect with 1 Health/HP once per battle. If this monster has base armor before it will restore fully.
  • mana cap.
  • can use element Fire, Water, Earth, Life and Dragon.

My Lineup and strategy

Some guidelines we can use :

  • Silenced summoners ruleset only means we depend only on the monster stats/ability, usually, we will choose Dragon Element if we have that element so we can use 2 elements at once, but in this battle, we don't have Dragon element.

  • First rule In the Born Again ruleset if possible we have to focus on attacking 1 monster, each monster can come back to life once, by focusing on attacking 1 monster we can kill the monster quickly forever, thus reducing the damage our monster will receive. Second rule if possible we have to use monsters that have armor, because with the Born Again ruleset every time our unit is turned on/resurrected its armor will be completely restored (for the base armor, but the buff armor depends on the monster who has the Protect ability still alive or not).

  • In this battle with What Doesn't Kill You ruleset we do not pay too much attention to this ruleset and just use the formation we think is the best for the Born Again ruleset.

There are several options that we can choose in this battle:

  1. Attack by prioritizing one of the melee, ranged, or magic attacks, generally people will always try to anticipate attacks from magic which are considered the most dangerous attacks by placing tankers who can deal with magic type attacks in the first position.
  2. In battles with low mana, monster attacks with the Sneak ability are many people's favorites because many monsters with this ability have good damage ability with only 3 mana cost.

In this battle, we decided to take a risk and ignore possible magic attacks focus on attacking the monster in front, and defend against possible monsters with Sneak and Opportunity ability behind.

This is my lineup :

Summoner or monsterAbilitiesDescription
Kelya Frendul, Give armor and speed +1 to all friendly monsters. No working ability or buff working for the summoner, we only use this summoner so can use the Water monsters in this battle.
Cruel Sethropod, 1st position, Attacker and tanker, not have any ability.I use this monster as a tanker because for mana 3 with armor 6 and HP 7 it is a monster that is very strong against melee or ranged attacks but weak against magic attacks. The damage it has is quite large of 3.
Tide Biter, 2nd position, Attacker and 2nd tanker, has ability Reach, Reflection Shield, and True Aim.Can attack from 2nd position because has Reach ability. Reflection Shield ability will ignore the damage of the Thorns and Blast effect. This monster attack will always hit the monster because of the ability of True Aim. Has good damage of 3, and a speed of 4.
Musa Saline, 3rd position, Attacker, has ability Scavenger, Shatter, and Dispell. At base stats this monster is not suitable to become a tanker because only has 3 HP, but if the battle becomes long this monster will get high HP because of the Scavenger ability. Every time any monster dies this monster's HP increases by 1, and remember this is Born Again Ruleset so every monster can die twice this will double the effect of the Scavenger ability. We put it in third place because we want to strengthen the defense in front we guess the enemy attack will be greater in front. I use this monster because Shatter ability, in a battle with many elements to choose from, some elements have good low mana monsters with armor, who are suitable to become a tanker so I guess the enemy will bring monsters with armor to maximize the Born Again ruleset. Dispell will delete all positive buffs from the enemy monster in the first position.
Merdaali Guardian, 4th position, Support, has the ability Tank Heal, Repair, and Strengthen. We use this monster to increase the survival of our monster in the front, this unit Heal our monster in the first position and restores the monster armor that has the highest damage. The Strengthen ability will increase all of the ally monster HP to +1. I put it in the 4th position to be safe from the enemy attack from the front or back at least until our monster dies. Although I think the enemy attack will focus on the first position I'm not sure 100 percent because some elements have good monsters with sneak abilities (attacking monsters in the last position), so in case my guess is wrong I put it in the 4th position.
Torrent Fiend, 5th position, Tanker, has the ability Headwinds. We used this monster as a tanker in the back to protect our Merdaali Guardian from sneak attack. Another reason because it has zero mana cost and has a Headwinds ability which can decrease the enemy ranged attack by 1.
Chaos Agent, 6th Position, Tanker, Has Ability Dodge, Phase, and BackfirePlace in the last position, same like Torrent Fiend this monster is to protect our Merdaali Guardian. This monster although can't attack can reflect the enemy's attack if the enemy attacks this monster and misses with the Backfire ability to deal 2 damage. Has a good evade ability with the Dodge ability which increases the chance of avoiding enemy attacks by 25%. Phase allows this monster to avoid magic type attacks.

Our Formation is finished and we are ready to battle :

The Battle

  • Round 1

  • Round 2

  • Round 3

  • Round 4

  • Round 5

  • Round 6

  • Round 7

  • Round 8

  • Round 9

  • Round 11-12 ( I skipped to round 11 because only left 1 enemy monster who can't attack.)

Did your Strategy Work?

This is a difficult battle, but our strategy still works well because the enemy doesn't bring monsters with magic attacks. Our strategy in this battle includes:

  • Brings Merdaali Guardian who can restore HP and armor.

  • Brings armor-breaking monsters. As we expected, just like us, the enemy brought tankers who rely on armor and HP to survive, the Blinding Reflector. The attack of our Muse Saline reduces its HP while destroying its armor, with the help of Tide Biter, and Cruel Sethropod we can quickly kill Blinding Reflector and several enemies behind it, reducing the damage load from our monsters behind which receive the damage from Sneak and Opportunity ability.

  • By placing Chaos Agent, Torrent Fiend, and Merdaali Guardian behind the enemies with the Sneak and Opportunity struggle to destroy our tankers behind only in the 5th round they can start attacking Muse Saline who already has quite a lot of HP thanks to her Scavenger ability.

But it was too late, their tankers in front had already run out, forcing their units that had attacks towards the rear one by one to have to advance to the first position and be beaten by our monsters. Our Muse Saline was alive until the end of the battle.

  • This is what I meant before in the guidelines about why it's important to have some armor, after Cruel Sethropod dies it comes back alive with full armor, making the melee and range monster have a hard time killing it again :

Conclusion

  • The enemy guesses that we will attack from behind with the Sneak ability and places Pelacor Conjurer which has excellent stats and abilities in avoiding all attacks in the very back position and boosts that by bringing Blinding Reflector which has the ability Blind (increasing chance to dodge the attack by 15%) in the hope that if we attack their monster Pelacor Conjurer behind, our monster will have difficulty hitting it.
  • We guess the same thing as the enemy that there will be an attack from behind, but we don't use the same strategy but focus on attacking the monsters in the first position, strengthening the back with several low mana monsters as a tanker to buy time for our attacker in front to kill the enemy in the first position.
  • In this battle we use Muse Saline as a tanker with a large HP that will appear at the end, attacks from any direction both front and back Muse Saline will have quite good HP when the time comes to face off against the enemy. If the enemy attacks from the front Muse Saline will receive Heal and Armor restore assistance from Merdaali Guardian
