Ferox Defender, Restore the Armor.

avatar

Hello everybody this week i want to write another post in Splinterlands Community in order to join this contest Social Media Challenge this is an event held by Splinterlands every week. Hundreds of Splinterlands players will do a blog to follow this event. Today I will talk about how to use ability armor repair to win the battle in Up, Close, and Personal ruleset (melee only) using new soulbound reward card Ferox Defender.

This is a battle in the Modern Format Diamond League, I played with my scholar account from Balthazar.

The guide presents a strategy on how to advance through the ranks by utilizing reasonably priced or cheap-to-rent monsters that can still prove effective. So no Expensive card to rent in my guide.

Ruleset

From left to right :

  • Up, Close and Personal ruleset, Only monsters with melee attacks may be used in battles.

  • What Doesn't Kill You, all monsters have the Enrage ability.

    • Enrage ability, if the monster's HP decrease it will increase the attack and speed of the monster. Multiplier by 1.5x rounded up. Fog of War ruleset, monsters lose the Sneak, Snipe, and, Opportunity abilities.
  • Mana Cap 49

  • Can use element Fire, Water, Earth, and Dragon.

My Lineup and strategy

This is the ruleset Up Close & Personal and Fog of War make the monster can only attack in 1st position and 2nd position if have Reach ability. so the attack basically focuses on the monster in the first position. The more behind the monster's position, the safer it will be. An ability like Thorns, Inspire, retaliate, demoralize, piercing, Shield, and others will be very helpful.

In this battle, we decided to use fire elements because we have a Soulbound monster that can repair armor.
We don't have any other monsters that have repair abilities, these monsters can be obtained for free by opening daily chests or End of Season chests, without the need to rent at high prices.

This is the enemy lineup :

This is our lineup from left (first position) to right (last position) :

Summoner/monster and AbilitiesDescription
Conqueror Jacek, 1st position, Summoner. Can give +2 speed to all friendly monsters, give Scattershot ability to all friendly monsters, and Piercing Ability.+2 speed provides a large enough speed increase to give the higher possibility of, striking first, avoiding enemy attacks, and every attack from our monsters can hit the opponent's monsters. This Piercing ability is very useful in melee vs melee after the enemy's armor is lost or damaged by our monsters, if there is still damage left after the armor reach 0, it will reduce the HP of the monsters we attack.
Exploding Rats, 1st position, attacker. Has the ability Blast, Redemption, and True Strike.Put in the first position because has high speed and good damage. Hoping with good speed can evade several enemy attacks before dying. This monster can't miss because has a True Strike ability. Blast ability will make the enemy monster in 2nd position get damaged if he hit the enemy monster in 1st position. The redemption ability will make other enemy monsters take damage by 1 if this monster dies.
Forgotten One, 2nd position, attacker. Has the ability Immunity, Retaliate, and Piercing. This monster can't attack from this position but he has Very high damage of 6 and very good attack ability which is Retaliate and Piercing. Retaliate can counterattack the enemy melee attack the chance for that to happen is 50%. Piercing this ability will make the damage left after hitting the armor goes through the HP and decrease it. Immunity ability will make this monster immune to all negative statuses, like poison, Halving, etc. This monster's weakness is a slow speed, but with our Summoner Jacek which increases speed by +2 hoping that this monster can hit the enemy.
Legionnaire Alvar, 3rd posiiton, attacker. Has ability Void Armor, Giant Killer, Demoralize, and Deathblow. If Forgotten One dies this monster will replace it. We hope that before Forgotten One dies can kill many enemies. I Choose this monster in this position because has high armor. Our monster Ferox Defender with repair ability will make this monster last long. If the enemy monster brings monsters with high mana like Carnage Titan with the ability Giant Killer this monster will do double damage. Demoralize very useful in melee battle, to reduce the enemy melee damage by 1.
Disintegrator, 4th position, attacker. Has the ability Demoralize, Trample, Knock Out, and Retaliate.Same with Legionnaire Alvar Has Demoralize, but this monster's armor is lower, so I put this behind Legionnaire Alvar. With Trample's ability after killing the enemy monster will attack the monster behind it. It has the same Retaliate ability as Forgotten One.
Ferox Defender, 5th position, attacker and support, has the ability Protect, and Repair. This is our support monsters, with ability Protect will increase the armor all friendly monster by +2. The ability Repair will restore the armor. That's why we put monsters in front with high armor, so this monster can restore it, make the enemy monsters must attack the armor first before hit the HP.
Tusk the Wide, 6th position, attacker. Has ability Void, and Inspire.Put this in the last position because has a good support ability Inspire, which makes all friendly monster melee damage increase by 1. Tusk the Wide does not have armor so it's useless if Ferox Defender is behind it. If Ferox Defender moves in the first position at least he has increased damage 1 by inspire.

The Battle

Round 1 :
The enemy has high armor because The enemy monster Alkemis Bear adds 2 armor.

  • Our side :
    • Exploding Rats die attacked by Coeurl Lurker, it's a shame it only had time to hit 1x before dying.

Round 2 :
In this round, we can see after the enemy Junker hit the Forgotten One HP, the damage and speed of this monster increase a lot because Enrage's ability is activated.

  • Enemy Side :
    • Coeurl Lurker dies attacked by Forgotten One.

Round 3 :

  • Enemy Side :
    • Junker dies attacked by Forgotten One who has 11 Damage and 6 speed.
    • Venari Kinjo die attack by Forgotten One retaliate ability.

Ferox Defender keeps repairing the Forgotten One Armor.

Round 4-6 :

  • Enemy Side :
    • Deeplurker dies attacked by Forgotten.
  • Enemy Side :
    • Disintegrator dies attacked by Forgotten One.

At this round, we can be sure that the victory will be ours because only 1 monster left on the enemy side.

Round 7-16 :
We skip to this round because very long battle, Arkemis the Bear has a Halving ability, if he attacks the enemy the strength will decrease by half, but Forgotten One has immunity so no effect on him. The Forcefield ability make this battle very long because Forgotten One can damage this monster with 1 damage only. Fortunately, Ferox Defender keeps repairing the Forgotten One armor so this monster can stay alive until the end of the round, and the victory is ours.

Did your strategy work?

Yes, our strategy of using Ferox Defender which has repair abilities combined with monsters that have demoralized and inspire allows us to win this battle. The key to our victory is in the Forgotten One monster, which has the ability to retaliate and the ruleset What Doesn't Kill You makes this monster have enormous damage. Frankly, I didn't think that the Forgotten One could survive to the end. Enrage allows this monster to drastically increase its stats. At the end of the fight, even though Arkemis the Bear has Halving which can reduce monster damage by 1/2, due to immunity from Forgotten One this doesn't happen. Artemis the Bear's Forcefield ability, which causes monsters with 5 or more damage to be reduced to 1 damage, it is quite difficult for the Forgotten One to kill him. But thanks to the help of the Ferox Defender, this monster can survive until the end.
