Hello everybody, I want to write another post in Splinterlands Community for Battle Mage Secrets Challenge. This Week's Theme is Going the Distance ruleset.

I play in the modern format, Diamond League, using my scholar account from Balthazar.

Ruleset

From left to right :

  • Rise of the Commons, only common and rare monsters can be used in this battle.

  • Back to Basic, monsters lose all abilities.

  • Going the distance, only monsters with range attack can be used in this battle.

  • Has mana cap 53.

  • Can use the element Water and Earth.

My Lineup and strategy

With Ruleset Going the Distance combined with Back to Basic and Rise of the Commons, we know that we can only use range monsters with no ability, the rarity we can use Common and Rare.

With Back to the basic ruleset, we depend more on the summoner ability.
Only 2 elements we can use; we will use Water; in Modern Format, the Earth element is usually good in magic attacks, but for the range monster, in my opinion, better in the water element, and the water element has a summoner who can add armor and give extra speed. The armor will at least give zero damage to monsters' HP for 1 attack.

The positioning for each monster is important in this back-to-basic ruleset. This is our arrangement :

  • The higher the monster damage, we will put it in the back.
  • We will put the lowest damage and good HP/armor in the front as a shield.
  • If the monster has armor (we know that our water summoner can give armor too, but extra armor will help) and equal damage with others, we will put it in the front to make the enemy hard to kill it, giving a chance for other attackers to kill the enemy.
  • and if the monster has no armor and equal damage, we will choose the higher HP to be put in the front.

This is my lineup :

Summoner or monsterAbilitiesDescription
Kelya Frendul, Give armor and speed +1 to all friendly monsters. The ability of this monster is very useful in this battle; armor will be great against the enemy monster with range attack; they need to destroy our monster's armor first before decreasing our monster's HP. High speed will ensure we can attack first and increase the chance to hit and evade enemy-range and melee monsters.
Angelic Mandarin, 1st position, Tanker.Put this in the first position because, with a small mana cost has good HP. The attack is not great, so put this in the first position.
Swamp Spitter, 2nd position, Attacker. We put this monster in the second position because this monster has Armor with 3 damage, to protect another monster with same damage of 3 who has not any armor.
Merdhampir, 3rd position, Attacker.Same with Swamp Spitter has 3 damage but no armor, so we put it in the third position.
Supply Runner 4th position, Attacker.Behind Merdhampir position because it has lowest HP, with the same damage of 3.
Gargoya Devil 5th position, Attacker. This monster has 4 damage and armor, so we put it in the fifth position.
Kulu Swimhunter, 6th position, attacker. This monster has 4 damage but no armor, so we put it behind Gargoya devil, who has armor.

The Battle

  • Round 1:
The battle started with buff and debuff, as usual.
Our monster slightly has better speed. The enemy Gargoya Devil dies first after being hit by our Swamp Spitter. Our Angelic Mandarin dies attacked by the enemy Gargoya Devil. In this round, I think we got lucky; the enemy with 5 damage, the Sea Stalker, only hit our monster Swamp Spitter and broke the 3 armor.

  • Round 2:
I think this is a bug don't know why, but it is showing 0 armor; usually, the armor is gone.

    • The enemy Angelic Mandarin was killed by our Merdhampir.
    • Our Swamp Spitter killed by the enemy Sea Stalker

We got lucky in this round. The enemy, Gargoya Devil attack, did not hit our Swamp Spitter, although the speed difference was only 1.

  • Round 3 :
    • Our Supply Runner killed the enemy Medhampir, and the most damaging monster in the enemy team Sea Stalker moved to the first position; this is good so we do not be attack again by high damaged monster.

  • Round 4:

    • The enemy Sea Stalker killed by our Kulu Swimhunter.
    • Our Medhampir killed by enemy Kulu Swimhunter

Now 3 our monsters against 2 enemy monsters, I think we will win this.

  • Round 5-7:

    • In round 5, the enemy Gargoya Devil without having a chance to attack, is killed by our Gargoya Devil.

With the enemy Kulu Swimhunter moving to the first position, the victory will surely become ours because this range monster can't attack in the first position. After several attacks from our monster, in round 7, the enemy Kulu Swimhunter was killed by our Kulu Swimhunter, and the victory became ours.

Did your Strategy Work?

Yes, the Strategy is working; putting the monster with the most damage in the back and using the armored monster in front is working. If the enemy using the same strategy, puts the Sea Stalker in the 6th position and moves the Angelic Mandarin to the first position, we may have difficulty winning this battle.
In every battle, we need luck; every hit counts, and we got that luck in this battle in round 2 when our Swamp Spitter can evade the enemy Gargoya devil attack.

Thank you, my friend, for taking the time to review my battle report. I appreciate your efforts and would be grateful if you could provide me with feedback on any mistakes you find by leaving a comment.
