Hello everybody, I hope you all have a good day and win rate in Splinterlands :). Today I will make a post about the Splinterlands contest Battle Mage Secrets Challenge. This Week's Theme is Broken Arrows ruleset.

I play in the Modern Format Diamond League, using my scholar account from Balthazar I only use cheap cards like Chaos, Reward, and some Neutral.

Ruleset

  • What Doesn't Kill You, all monster has Enrage ability.

    • Enrage ability, has increased Speed when damaged, multiplier x1.5 rounded up.
  • Taking Sides, Neutral monsters can't be used in this battle.

  • Broken Arrow, monsters with range attack can't be used in this battle.

  • mana cap.

  • can use element Water, Earth and Dragon.

My Lineup and strategy

Because in this battle there is an Earth element, we can use a summoner who can reduce magic attacks by 50%. So we just have to focus on facing melee attacks. Here we will use 2 monsters that have the Taunt ability, we will discuss this further at the end of the reasons we use these monsters.

This is my lineup :

Summoner or monsterAbilitiesDescription
Immortalis, Summoner. Can decrease all enemy monsters' HP by -1. Have Void, and Shatter abilitiesI use this summoner because have Void* ability, this ability can decrease the enemy magic attack by 50%, Shatter ability will destroy all armor from the monster we hit with only 1 attack.
Mycelic Infantry, 1st position, attacker and tanker. Has the ability Shield and Giant Killer.Put this here as a main tanker because it has Shield ability which will decrease the enemy melee and range damage by 50%. The weakness of this monster besides the slow speed it is weak against magic, but with the summoner Immortalist this monster is strong again any attack..
Terraceous Hulk, 2nd position, Tanker. Has the ability Taunt Void Armor and Demoralize.Use this unit because have Taunt ability. Taunt ability is the ability to make all enemy monsters attack this monster if they can. Put this here to make sure the enemy monster attacks this monster, we bring 2 monsters with Taunt ability, and the enemy will prioritize to attack the monster with Taunt ability closest to the first position. This monster can't attack in this position.
Goblin Psychic, 3rd position, Attacker and Support. Have abilities Heal, Affliction, and Silence. This magic monster has many good support abilities, but the speed is only 1 easy to die when attacked by the enemy,I put it in this position to make sure it's safe from the front and back attack, at least for a while. This monster can heal our tanker monster in the front. The Silence ability will decrease all enemy magic damage by -1. The Affliction ability effect has a 50% chance to inflict upon attack on the enemy monster, when the enemy monster gets Affliction status it can't be healed again.
Queen Mycelia, 4th position, Attacker and Support. Have Protect, Amplify, Triage, and Rust abilitiesSame as Goblin Psychic, this monster is weak has low speed, damage, and HP, easy to die but has great support ability. Protect ability will increase all friendly monster armor by +2. Amplify will increase the effect of Thorns, Magic Reflect, and Return Fire by 1 but in this battle, we do not use this ability. The Triage ability will heal the monster with the most decreased HP who is not in the first position. Rust will decrease all enemy armor by -2. We want this monster to heal our monster with The Taunt ability.
Venari Scout, 5th position, Attacker. have Opportunity and Dodge abilityPut this monster in this position as a tanker if the enemy bring monster with Sneak ability in case our monster with the Taunt ability killed. This monster has Dodge ability which can increase the chance to evade the melee and range monster attack by 25%. The Opportunity ability makes this melee monster can attack from any position, it will attack the monster with the lowest HP.
Mycelic Slipspawn, 6th position, Attacker and Tanker. Have Taunt, Forcefield, and Slow abilitiesWe use this monster because of the Forcefield ability. This ability will decrease all damage from the monster who has 5 or more damage to become only 1 damage. This is our 2nd monster with the Taunt ability. After our Terraceous Hulk dies the enemy monster will attack this monster if they can. Slow ability decreases all enemy speed by -1. it's good to debuff the enemy speed it will increase our chance to attack first, hit the enemy, and dodge the enemy's attack

Our Formation is finished and we are ready to battle :

Did your Strategy Work?

The strategy worked well, our monster which had the Taunt ability gave our attacking monster time to kill the enemy monster. Even though we only brought a monster with little damage, we could defeat the enemy who brought a monster with much greater damage. The reason we bring 2 units that have the Taunt ability and put one of them in the front position so that they are attacked first is :

  • Old Splinterlands players will usually know that there is a possibility that we will use the Immortalist summoner because of the Broken Arrows ruleset (Immortalist's weakness is range attacks) and using Mycelic Slipspawn which are very strong face attacks that have damage of 5 or greater. Because of that sometimes they will choose to bring melee monsters with damage less than 5. By placing Terraceous Hulk in front if the enemy anticipates the presence of Mycelic Slipspawn they will bring monsters with damage of 4 or less and Terraceous Hulk which has the Demoralize ability will reduce the damage even less so that the enemy will have difficulty killing Terraceous Hulk. But if the enemy brings a monster with damage of 5 or more, Terraceous Hulk will die quickly because it doesn't have good defensive skills, only big HP and armor, while its speed is also very slow.
  • If the enemy carries a monster with damage of 5 or more when they successfully kill Terraceous Hulk their damage which was previously reduced by 1 due to the Demoralize ability will return to 5 or more and each attack on Mycelic Slipspawn only deals damage of 1. We can see this clearly in this battle below, the enemy Deeplurker has 8 damage because attacked by our monster Venari Scout and activated the ruleset What Doesn't Kill You :
