Splinterlands Weekly Challenge: Scavo Firebolt

Born from the toxic gas from the Mountain of Ash, and molded by their proximity to the magma, the Scavo Firebolts developed the ability to summon and launch bolts of fire from their palms. Using this ability they have been able to protect their homes from would be enemies. This ability also makes them fearsome foes as part of you own monster line-up.

The Lineup

Summoner

For this battle I chose Tarsa as my summoner. At a Mana cost of 4 she gives a +1 to Melee and +1 to Health. The extra Health gives an added attack boost to my first and second tanks, and a heath boost to the whole team.

Admittedly Tarsas bonuses helped my tanks more than anything, but I think the choice was still a good one.

Front Row

At 7 Mana I chose the Living Lava as the main tank, and paired with Tarsa, what an excellent tank it made. While the 1 speed makes the Living Lava a bit slow, it more than made up for it with a combined 4 Attack, 2 Shield, 7 Health and Shield ability (which reduces damage from melee and ranged attacks)

Overall a good choice for a frontline tank is many Fire lineups

Second

At 5 Mana I next chose the Radiated Brute, again with 1 speed a bit on the slow side, but makes up for it with the now 3 attack, 6 Health and most importantly the Reach Ability, giving her the ability to also attack from the second position.

What my two tanks lacked in speed they more than made up for it in attack power and health, keeping them alive until the end.

Third

In third position I wanted to put the star of this post. At 4 Mana the Scavo Firebolt gives you 2 Ranged, 2 Speed, and thanks to Tarsa, 5 Health.

Thanks to the ranged attack I was able to, with the rest of my selection, focus on the opposing front line and take it out in the first round. And while the Scavo Firebolt was taken out with Sneak attacks eventually I feel that it did enough damage before that to help lead my team to victory.

Fourth

In the fourth spot I wanted a monster that would continue the theme of attacking the front line, so I went with the Spark Pixies. At 4 Mana they have 2 Ranged, and again tanks to Tarsa 2 Health, As well as an amazing 5 Speed, which mixed with it Flying ability makes this monster hard to hit which helped a lot during this battle.

And those misses came in very handy, as I feel there were a couple of critical misses that helped me keep my two ranged attackers alive long enough to dish out some game changing damage.

Fifth

And last but not least in the fifth spot I had 1 Mana left so I went with the Chaos Agent. Mostly useful for its ability to take a hit or two, and I used it for just that purpose. With 2 Health and 2 Speed I was hoping to get a couple misses to make him more useful.

While he did not get a miss, he was able to take two hits so that proved somewhat useful before he was taken out in the first round.

Conclusion

So, what do I think about the Scavo Firebolt...

I will admit that I had not used it much as I felt it was not a strong card. And now I can safely say, boy was I worng. I was pleasantly surprised with how well it did in the battle, it was not only able to dish out a couple of key hits, but also drew a miss or two in the process helping it stay around a bit longer. And mixed with mixed with a team that can all concentrate on one monster I think this card will have a hard time going unnoticed and underused by myself any longer.

I can definitely now say that the Scavo Firebolt has its uses, particularly if you want to go for a Ranged lineup and I feel I will use this card more often as I continue to learn the game and get better...
