Modern RARE Monsters You Need! - Part 3

In this post I want to spend a short time talking about the EARTH deck and Modern must own monsters, specifically RARE.

I will only give a final score based on a Level 1 but will talk about the potential of a card at MAX Level, Also I wont touch on cards which are Starter cards.

This will form part of a 6 part mini series where I delve into what I believe is the best RARE Modern mosters to own, looking at both Utility, Synergy and Cost.

Mycelic Slipspawn

Mycelic Slipspawn, We could end the deep dive here its an amazing RARE card for the EARTH deck, The only area that lets it down is the mana cost...9 Mana! its on the high side so you will need to choose if playing this card out weighs playing possibly 2 or even 3 others. That being said mana cost aside this card is really good! Level 1 you get x2 Magic, x2 Speed and x10 HP with Taunt. Move on up to MAX Level you get x3 Magic, x3 Speed and x12 HP with Taunt, Phase and Slow.
So whilst MAX Level its going to be even harder to kill and it offers amazing support with the Slow and Taunt at Level 1 with only Taunt you will be happy with this card! Tie this card with Spirit Hoarders Triage ability and this RARE card will keep on giving round after round.

Overall Score 8/10.

Synergy wise, this card is perfect with Obsidian who will add +1 Magic meaning at Level 1 you will hit for x3 Magic and MAX Level x4!
Summoners aside, Synergy with other mosters too thanks to the taunt will mean mosters who have small HP will last longer so it not only has perfect Summoners Synergy but also great team synergy as a whole.

Overall Score 10/10.

Currently the cost is at $0.37 per BCX / 124 DEC - MAX Copy $42 / 14K DEC, So in costing terms its an absolute bargain for the Utility and Synergy this card offers. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to just go out buy a MAX copy if you have the funds, however if you want to spread funds evenly then just get a Level 1 its 124 DEC your make that easily over 1 season! When you see that this card was still $1 only 3 months ago its not hard to predict what this will cost when all packs are sold!

Overall Score 10/10.

Most defiantly a strong contender for the Best RARE EARTH Modern Monster, it offers great Utility, Perfect Synergy and is Cost effective. Buy...Buy Now!

Goblin Tower

Goblin Tower, Another nice RARE card for the EARTH deck, The only area or areas that lets this card down is its low HP and lack of Synergy which will be in the point below. Other than that Level 1 you get x2 Range Attack, x1 Speed and x3 Armour and x3 HP with Blast. I should add speed as a weak point. Move on up to MAX Level you get x5 Range Attack, x1 Speed, x5 Armour and x5 HP with Blast So still massively let down by speed which we all know is king.
Having only the 1 ability is usually a let down for a card but Blast makes it an exception as it offers much more than the average ability as it causes damage to two monsters when its used not just one. That being said this card does lack in a few areas and whilst x2 Range Attack is nice tied with Blast at Level 1, its lack of speed and health means its not likely to survive long.

Overall Score 5/10.

Synergy wise, this card is as mentioned briefly above not great, if it was Magic yes it would be perfect with Obsidian saying that if it was Magic with blast it would be an OP card! But as its not it is somewhat let down and you then have to choose if you want a card with no benefit from your summoner or a card that does! I know what id pick.

Overall Score 1/10.

Currently the cost is at $0.12 per BCX / 40 DEC - MAX Copy $14 / 4.6K DEC, So in costing terms its a cheap card and so it does help the overall lure of this card, Id recommend getting this card to a Level 3 just because how cheap it is but that’s as far as id personally take it. You could better spend your funds on cards which Synergise better as a whole.

Overall Score 8/10.

Most defiantly a cheap RARE Modern Monster, but that’s as good as it gets with this card unfortunately, I wanted to like it more, I mean who doesn’t love a card with Blast but its just not competing with other cards when you weigh up, Utility, Synergy and Cost

Mycelic Infantry

This card is a tough one, On the one hand I love it and on the other I never use it! At 8 Mana cost id much rather choose Grund for that little extra cost but a much larger Utility! That being said if I didn’t have Grund this would be my tank all day! Level 1 you get x3 Melee, x1 Speed and x3 Armour and x7 HP with Shield. Move on up to MAX Level you get x5 Melee, x1 Speed, x3 Armour and x10 HP with Shield, Giant Killer and Enrage So at all levels its another one let down by speed, but where this card differs is it has a high hit point count and dishes out a mighty punch from Level 1 to MAX.
That being said, whilst MAX level obviously offers greater protection and output, you can knock Level 1 its very capable of holding its own and giving all you’d expect from a front line tank!

Overall Score 7/10.

Synergy wise, Its not the best, but in this case its a tank card so Synergy isnt the be all and end all. Whilst its nice to get a boost from the summoners as a tank your just there for brute strength and to basically be a meat shield whilst the other magic monsters who will benefit from +1 bonus can do the output damage.

Overall Score 5/10.

Currently the cost is at $0.17 per BCX / 56 DEC - MAX Copy $19 / 6.4K DEC, So in costing terms its another affordable rare, however unlike the card above this is more of a great deal for the overall Utility and lack of Synergy needed. Its one id say to look at but again id have to recommend Grund over this card, but based on the stats on this card..its a bargain.

Like I said at the start its a tough one it does have good Utility, it doesn’t particularly rely on Synergy and its a great Cost per BCX. Id have to say Buy it!

Overall:

Its really a no brainer for me on this one, Mycelic Slipspawn for the Utility, Synergy and Cost it ticks all the boxes and you cant go wrong! Buy Buy Buy.
