My BATTLE MAGE SECRET Weekly Challenge! AIMLESS

Hello there, this is my entry to the latest "Battle Mage Secret Weekly Challenge!". If you want to participate or learn more about the challenge, click here. This week we have to formulate a strategy with the Aimless ruleset.

RULESET: Aimless

With the Aimless ruleset in action, All units will receive the Scattershots ability. It can also target Camouflaged units.

This ruleset is simple and easy to understand as all units will have the Scattershots ability before and during the battle. And as we know that scattershot ability can also target the Camouflaged units so we must keep that in mind. Also, with this ruleset, you have to be the luckier one and pray to get good rng. But not everything is on chance, one must come up with a good strategy focusing on both attacking and defensive aspects of the game.

Let's see how this ruleset affects my lineup and how I strategies for the following battle.

My Lineup

This is my lineup for the battle

Position
Summoner/Monsters
Summoner
Keyla Frendul
Position 1
Torrent Fiend
Position 2
Djinn Oshannus
Position 3
Venari Wavesmith
Position 4
Uraeus

This was just a 20-mana cap battle in modern format and just had the 'Aimless' ruleset. So, all units get the 'Scattershot' ability.

All elements except Earth and Life were active during this battle. I went with Water and chose Keyla Frendul as my summoner which increased the speed of all the friendly monsters by 1 and gave them extra armour which is very effective in low-mid range mana battles.

I used the Torrent Fiend in the first position. It is just a zero mana cost unit which is why I used it in the first position. I didn't expect much from it maybe just for absorbing one or more hits at the start of the battle. At least it could still attack from this position.

Next in my lineup was Djinn Oshannus which deals 2 magic attack damage and comes with incredible speed and huge health of its own. Well, it costs 8 mana but its stats fully justify that. Its 'void' ability helps it even against mages. If you can support it with some more armour or heal it would become so deadly to deal with.

Venari Wavesmith was a crucial part of the lineup and placed in third place. It cost 5 mana but it comes with 'protect' ability which makes it very valuable and improves the defenses of the entire lineup in one go. This is extremely effective against melee and ranged attackers.

Last but not least was Uraeus, a melee attacker which costs just 3 mana and comes with an armour of its own. Its 'sneak' ability surprises the opponent as it attacks from the back rather than the front of the enemy lineup. And sometimes you will find weaker units at the back of the lineup, especially in lower mana leagues.

Now that my lineup is set let's talk about my strategy for this game.

My Strategy

The 'Aimless' ruleset is not too difficult for me as I try to go back to the fundamentals of the game. My strategy in this battle was to utilise every drop of precious mana that I had available. Most of it was spent on the mighty Djinn Oshannus which is supposed to be the tank and hold the fort while also providing a strong attacking option.

I needed to support my tank with heal or extra armour or both but I settled on just giving more armour to all the units as I included the Venari Wavesmith in my lineup.

As you will see in the battle video, this strategy worked nicely.

I will share my battle here, which I have uploaded to YouTube. Battle Link

My opponent went with a more ranged damage-oriented lineup and used the dual option summoner Prophet Rose and used their '+2 ranged attack increase for two units' and also used two ranged attackers which they boosted.

But as the battle began my shield proved much more valuable against those ranged attack damage and with scattershots, 'protect' ability does a great job.

Just at the start of Round 3 their most powerful striker, Mar Toren Seeker got eliminated and it cleared the path for my smooth win. There were still a couple of units left but all my units were still standing and breathing.

It was a quick encounter ending in just three rounds and in the end, I won it easily. The strategy to use extra armour with a strong tank at the front helped a lot during this battle.

Conclusion

Aimless ruleset is an easy-to-understand one, as the units will receive the Scattershot ability so the attack is more spread out and one should not focus much on just a single unit, especially when thinking about the defence. That's why as you saw in the above battle I used the summoner which gave extra armour and also used a unit with 'protect' ability which gave all the friendly units extra armour that protected the entire lineup and made the battle look easy.

But one should not rely on just a strategy against one or two attack types that's why I used a tank with a 'void' ability so the magic attack does not overwhelm me easily. Other than that focusing on the fundamentals of the game is always suggested.

Let me know what your strategy is with this ruleset.
