My BATTLE MAGE SECRET Weekly Challenge! Lost Magic

Hello there, this is my entry to the new "Battle Mage Secret Weekly Challenge!". If you want to participate or know more about the challenge, click here. This week we have to formulate a strategy with the Lost Magic ruleset.

RULESET: Lost Magic

With the Lost Magic ruleset, as the name suggests, Magic units may not be used in battle.

The 'Lost Magic' ruleset is easy to understand as no magic attackers can be used during the battle.

Using monsters with 'thorns' and 'return fire' abilities is a great strategy during this ruleset, especially using summoners that grant all the friendly units those aforementioned abilities. I used a similar strategy during my battle.

Let's see how this ruleset affects my lineup and how I strategies for the following battle. But first, let's focus on my lineup.

My Lineup

This is my lineup for the battle

Position
Summoner/Monsters
Summoner
Mylor Crowling
Position 1
Chain Golem
Position 2
Uraeus
Position 3
Goblin Thief
Position 4
Fungus Fiend

It was only a 18-mana cap battle and had Lost Magic ruleset only.

All except Fire and Life elements were active during this battle. I went with the Earth element as I wanted to use Mylor Crowling as my summoner which gave all the friendly units, the 'thorns' ability.

I used the Chain Golem as my tank. It is a nice defender that comes with a lot of health and armour. But the best part is its 'shield' ability which reduces damage taken from both Melee and Ranged attackers and for the 'Lost Magic' ruleset it is the perfect ability. Not only defence but its attack is very powerful too, dealing 3 melee attack damage with each attack.

Next in my lineup was Uraeus who dealt 2 melee damage and cost just 3 mana. It also comes with 1 armour which might not look that useful but 1 armour is much better than no armour...lol. It also had the 'sneak' ability that can be very handy too.

Another sneaky monster in my lineup was Goblin Theif. It only costs 4 mana and dealt 2 melee attack damage with decent speed. It had better health than the previous unit. I had to utilize the 18 mana efficiently.

Last on my lineup was a zero mana unit as I spent all my mana on the first three. I added the Fungus Fiend at the end of the lineup to protect from those sneaky attacks. I wasn't expecting much from this unit.

Now that my lineup was set let's talk about my strategy for this game.

My Strategy

My strategy during the Lost Magic ruleset is always to use maximum units with 'thorns' or 'return fire' abilities and Mylor Crowling summoner was perfect as it gave all my friendly units the 'throns' ability.

Since this was only an 18 mana cap battle I had to utilize every drop of the mana carefully. I spent most of it on a strong tank, the Chain Golem. With its 'shield' and 'thorns' (given by summoner) abilities it would be a powerful defensive unit.

I also used two units with 'sneak' ability as more often than not you will find some weak units at the end of the lineup, especially in lower leagues.

This strategy, as you will see, worked in my favour and gave me an easy win in the end.

I will share my battle here, which I have uploaded to YouTube. Battle Link

My opponent went with the Keyla Frendul. They went with a relatively cheaper tank with less health and no armour, the Xenith Monk but it had the useful 'heal' ability.

As their tank only struck with 1 melee damage and my Chain Golem had the 'shield' ability which reduced this attack to 0. That was a little win for me.

Round 2 was a moving round where my Uraeus got eliminated but their tank got eliminated as well and it looked good for me.

Now Deeplurker was in first place on the enemy lineup. While it is a great attacker but it struggles in the first position and that's what happened. Its high attack damage worked against it only. The more it attacked the weaker it got.

Eventually, in round 5 all of the enemy units got eliminated and I registered a good win at the end. My strategy worked perfectly!

Conclusion

Lost Magic is an interesting ruleset, it rewards you for having more units with 'return fire' or 'thorns' abilities. And when the mana cap is less like in the above battle, I go for 'thorns' damage.

I used a relatively strong tank at the front in the form of Chain Golem and went back to the fundamentals of the game by using weak but more attacking units after the tank.

I used two 'sneaky' monsters too which attacked the last unit in the enemy camp most often than not players have weaker units at the end which can be a good strategy as well.

Let me know what's your strategy with this ruleset.

Mylor Crowling is the best summoner in such situations. Great win and strategy. Good going. 👏
