My BATTLE MAGE SECRET Weekly Challenge! Silenced Summoners

Hello there, this is my entry to the new "Battle Mage Secret Weekly Challenge!". If you want to participate or know more about the challenge, click here. This week we have to formulate a strategy with the Silenced Summoners ruleset.

RULESET: Silenced Summoners

With the Silenced Summoners ruleset, summoners do not give any buffs or debuffs and do not grant abilities or have abilities.

The 'Silenced Summoner' ruleset is easy to understand as they will no longer provide the units with any ability or buffs/debuffs. This makes the role of summoner very limited during this ruleset. It is recommended to use low-cost summoners as you will have more mana to spend on your monsters. Similarly using the highest-level summoner should be used in this ruleset.

Let's see how this ruleset affects my lineup and how I strategies for the following battle.

My Lineup

This is my lineup for the battle

Position
Summoner/Monsters
Summoner
Bortus
Position 1
Chain Golem
Position 2
Relenor Cleaver
Position 3
Uraeus
Position 4
Merdaali Guardian
Position 5
Venari Wavesmith
Position 6
Halfing Alchemist

This was only a 32 mana battle and it only had the 'Silenced Summoner' ruleset which is what we wanted. This is one of the brawl battles so we could use one gladiator unit as well.

All except the 'Fire' and 'Death' elements were active during this battle. I went with the water element and used Bortus as it just cost 3 mana to use and was the cheapest summoner in my deck. Due to the ruleset, its buffs were not applied.

I used the Chain Golem as my tank. It costs 8 mana but deals strong melee attack damage. It is a great defender too and comes with 7 hp and 4 armour. Along with these, it has the 'shield' which is extremely effective against melee and ranged attackers. It is one of the best tanks in the game for me and being a neutral unit makes it an incredibly versatile unit.

Next in my lineup was Relenor Cleaver, who is a gladiator unit. It is an expensive unit costing 8 mana but justifies this cost from its impressive stats. It deals 4 melee attack damage and has 7 hp and whooping 8 armour to protect it against those melee and ranged attackers. I could use it in the second position because it has the 'reach' ability.

Uraeus came in the second position, it dealt 2 melee attack damage and cost just 3 mana. This cheap unit also comes with 1 armour and a 'sneak' ability which helps me add a surprise touch to my attack as it deals attacks from the last position rather than from the front of the enemy lineup.

I needed a unit that could support my tank and what better way to support it than to have a unit with a 'tank heal' ability? Merdaali Guardian was a good choice for that as it costs just 3 mana.

How about we add more armour to all the friendly units? This thought striked me and I chose to include the Venari Wavemsith in the fifth position in my lineup for that exact reason. It costs 5 mana but deals 1 magic attack damage. This was the only mage in my lineup.

Last but not least was Halfing Alchemist. Costing just 2 mana and dealing 1 ranged attack damage it doesn't look too impressive until you see its unique ability, 'halving'. This ability can easily increase the attacking strength of the opponent's lineup.

Now that my lineup is set let's talk about my strategy for this game.

My Strategy

My strategy during this battle was not too complicated. I used some strong tanks at the front in the form of Chain Golem and Relevor Cleaver and supported them by adding more armour given by Venari Wavesmith's 'Protect' ability.

Also, having some kind of healing is always good, I had the Merdaali Guardian with a 'tank heal' ability that should make those tanks sturdier and harder to eliminate.

Halfing Alchemist played a huge role in this battle as well and its 'halving' ability can reduce the attack damage of its target and is extremely effective against strong tanks.

This strategy, as you will see, worked in my favour and gave me an easy win in the end.

I will share my battle here, which I have uploaded to YouTube. Battle Link

My opponent went with heavy magic attack damage and used a strong tank (Unicorn Mustang) at the front of the lineup. The first three units on their lineups were scary, to say the least.

My primary tank didn't last much longer and got eliminated in the second round itself but by the end of this round their tank also got defeated and now they were left with just two units. But these units were the strongest both had powerful attack damage and had the 'heal' abilities.

My Halfing Alchemist came to the rescue and reduced the attack damage of Quora Towershead which was such a big relief as it can cause havoc in your battles.

It took some time to get it eliminated and my gladiator unit also died in round 5.

Once their Kron the Undying came in the first position, its attack damage got reduced too by my Halfing alchemist which was a great help during the entire battle. After this a long fight between both tanks took place and both were getting healed too but I had more attackers left and this made all the difference.

After a long long-fought battle, at the end of round 12, I got the win. This was a hard-fought one but I came out on top.

Conclusion

Silenced Summoners ruleset is an interesting one as summoners will no longer be that important during your battles but it makes it a little more challenging to come up with a plan.

I tend to go with the fundamentals whenever I am in doubt. Using a couple of strong tanks at the start, supplementing them with hopefully healing and other abilities and if you can give some extra armour to all the friendly units then it's a bonus.

Having a unit that can cut down on your opponent's attacking strength is a great idea as well as you saw in the above battle, a unit did exactly that and was the game changer in this battle.

Let me know what's your strategy with this ruleset.
