My Splinterlands Social Media Challenge! Kron the Undying

Hello guys, this is my entry to the "Splinterlands Social Media Challenge!". If you want to participate and/or read more about the challenge, click here.

We are at the end of another splinterlands season. I have been playing in Modern format for as long as I remember and it has been challenging for me with the removal of bots but I am finding it refreshing to battle against real players. It hurts way more knowing you are losing to an AI than to a human being. One of the useful units that has been helping me throughout these seasons is the legendary earth unit, Kron the Undying and I am here to talk more about this impressive unit.

Let's start by looking at its stats in detail.

Kron the Undying is a legendary earth unit that came out during the Untamed edition. This is a very powerful unit which comes at a huge cost of 10 mana but is worth that cost because of its impressive stats and both attacking and defensive capabilities.

It dealt 3 magic attack damage and came with 10 health points of its own. Its 'heal' ability makes it last much longer on the battlefield. Its impressive attacking strength dealing magic attack damage and the heal ability makes it a strong tank. I use it in first or second positions most of the time.

Let's see how I used it in one of my battles.

My Lineup

This is my lineup for the battle

Position 1
Chain Golem
Position 2
Kron the Undying
Position 3
Fungus Fiend
Position 4
Goblin Psychic
Position 5

Position 6

It was a 34-mana cap battle and had the 'Reverse Speed' ruleset which makes the monsters with the lowest speed attack first and have the highest chance of evading attacks.

Only 'Earth', 'Life' and 'Dragon' elements were active during this battle. I went with earth element as I wanted to use heavy magic attack damage and to improve my mages' attacking strength I used the Obsidian as my summoner which increased the magic attack damage of all friendly mages by 1.

My primary tank in this battle was Chain Golem. It costs 8 mana but comes with some nice stats, dealing 3 melee attack damage and comes with 7 hp and 6 armour of its own. It also comes with the 'Shield' ability which is effective against melee and ranged attackers. I had high hopes for this unit and it was the glue that should held this lineup together.

Kron the Undying was placed in the next position. It was a secondary tank just in case the Chain Golem got eliminated early in the battle. As I said earlier, it deals 3 magic attack damage and is a very powerful attacker. Its 'heal' ability makes it last much longer.

Fungus Fiend was placed in the next position. It was a zero-mana cost unit and I didn't expect much from this, only placed it to fill up a slot. I thought about placing it at the end of the lineup but decided to place it here instead just to give extra protection to the next unit in my lineup.

Next in my lineup was Goblin Psychic, a strong mage dealing 2 magic attack damage and comes with 6 mana costs. The best part about this unit is its 'tank heal' ability that supports the tank in the battle I had two strong tanks in the front of the lineup and having a healer is a very effective strategy.

In the fifth position, I placed the Halfing Alchemist in my lineup. It was the only ranged attacker dealing just 1 ranged attack damage but it came with a powerful ability called 'halving' which reduces its target's attack to half. This is very effective against heavy attackers. And it only costs 2 mana so it was a no-brainer for me to add this to my lineup.

Doctor Blight came in the last position, it cost 4 mana to use and dealt 1 magic attack damage and came with 4 health of its own. It has 2 useful abilities: 'Affliction' and 'Camouflage'. Both of these make it a valuable unit in my lineup.

Now that my lineup was set, it was time for battle.

I will share my battle here, which I have uploaded to YouTube.

My Strategy

It was an interesting ruleset that discouraged the use of high-speed units. I decided to use magic attackers so my units would not miss even if they had big speed differences.

I used the Obsidian as my summoner which increased the magic attack by 1. I went with two heavy tanks at the front of the lineup. Chain Golem was my primary tank followed by the highlighted unit Kron the Undying. Both of those had to be given some sort of heal and my Goblin Psychic played this role.

Also, a crucial role was played by the Halfing Alchemist which reduced the attacking strength of a couple of heavy hitters.

This strategy, as you will see, worked in my favour and gave me a comfortable win at the end.

My opponent went with a heavy magic attack damage as well but they used a weaker tank Mycelic Infantry which is a weak point in their lineup because it was not a good defender against my magic attack damage.

Round 1 ended with both of our tanks getting eliminated and now my Kron the Undying was standing in the first place ready with its 'heal' ability and supported by the 'tank heal' ability. It would be tough to take it down now.

Just like its name, Kron the Undying it was not dying and took the barrage of attacks from opponents and got healed back up after round 3. My opponent didn't have much firepower left in their lineup.

The ruleset never came into the picture as it was mostly mages attacking mages and while I just lost one unit my opponent kept losing their units at regular intervals. While my Kron the Undying kept getting healed back to almost full health. It never looked like a close battle.

In the end, I won this battle easily and the synergy between my tank and Goblin Psychic made it look very easy.

Conclusion

As you just saw in the above battle, Kron the Undying is a very powerful summoner capable of changing the fate of the battle. It is extremely effective in mid-high mana cap battles. It justifies its 10 mana cost easily with its powerful magic attack damage and good health.

Its 'heal' ability is what makes it a legendary unit for me. If you can add a little more support to this unit then it can be invisible on the battlefield just like we saw in the above battle.

Also, the 'blinded' status effect it gives to the enemy units helps in dodging more attacks. All these status effects and buffs make it a great summoner and it justifies its 7 mana cost nicely. Just make sure you are not using it against mages or rulesets which encourages magic attackers.

I highly recommend having this unit in your deck.
