My Splinterlands Social Media Challenge! Merdhampir

Hello guys, this is my entry to the "Splinterlands Social Media Challenge!". If you want to participate and/or read more about the challenge, click here.

We are heading towards the end of another season of Splinterlands and like always we are forming new strategies and trying out new units and just experimenting a lot. This week I will talk about another interesting unit that I use a lot in my battles but I haven't talked about it much in my blogs. This is a water unit called Merdhampir and what makes it useful is its impressive stats and abilities. I will show you how, let's take a look at its stats in detail.

Merdhampir is a strong common unit from the water element. It only costs 4 mana but comes deals a good amount of ranged damage with decent speed and comes with my favourite ability, 'Life leech'.

I had a level 5 unit which deals 2 ranged attack damage with 3-speed points. Its health is not a strong suit but the life-leech ability makes it last much longer in our lineup. It also has the 'cripple' ability which makes it effective even against heavily armoured tanks.

Let's see how I utilised it in one of my battles. Any guesses?

My Lineup

This is my lineup for the battle

Position
Summoner/Monsters
Summoner
Keyla Frendul
Position 1
Cruel Sethropod
Position 2
Uraeus
Position 3
Pelacor Bandit
Position 4
Doctor Blight
Position 5
Merdhampir
Position 6
Igor Darkspear

It was a 47-mana cap battle and had the following rulesets:

  • Little League: Only monsters and summoners that cost 4 mana or less may be used in battles.

  • Up to Eleven: All monsters have the amplify ability.

All elements except Life were active during this battle. The Little Leagues ruleset made me go for Keyla Frendul as it would give extra armour and speed point to all the friendly units.

I used the Cruel Sethropod in the first position. Since the ruleset was 'Little Leagues', this unit had the best available defences left. It had 4 extra armour and 5 health. Not only the defensive capabilities it also dealt 2 melee attack damage.

In the following position, I used the Uraeus. This was another melee attacker with armour but the health was a little low. Also, it comes with a 'sneak' ability which helps to surprise opponents and deals damage to the end of the lineup, this is super useful, especially in lower leagues as players often put weaker units at the end of their lineups.

Next in the m lineup was another melee attacker, the Pelacor Bandit. Costing just 3 mana, it has some nice stats. Comes with a 'sneak' ability as well and deals 2 melee damage with good speed and a 'flying' ability which makes it dodge many attacks.

Doctor Blight was the only mage in my lineup. Although, it deals only 1 magic attack that attack has the chance to inflict 'poison' which is very deadly. It also comes with 'affliction' and 'camouflage' and that's what makes this unit a legendary one. All of this in just 4 mana is very efficient and effective.

Now comes the MVP for this lineup, Merdhampir. It dealt 2-range attacks with decent speed and health but this health can increase as it has the 'Life Leech' ability. Also, its attacks are powerful due to its 'cripple' ability which decreases their max health.

Last but not least was Igor Darkspear, another ranged attacker with similar stats but no abilities of his own. All that costs only 2 mana and I used this at the end for its relatively bigger health of 5. This should shield my Merdhapir better and those 'sneaky' monsters won't be able to hit it directly.

Now that my lineup was set, it was time for battle.

I will share my battle here, which I have uploaded to YouTube.

My Strategy

Since this battle had a 'little league' ruleset, I knew that I need extra armour for my units. That's the reason I used the Keyla Frendul as my summoner which gave all the friendly units extra armor and speed too.

I used Cruel Sethropod as my tank which was the best one under 4 mana, it had good health and lots of armour. I used a variety of attack types including melee attackers at the front, a very useful legendary mage and ranged attackers at the back.

Merdhampir was a crucial part of the lineup as well. Its 'cripple' and 'Life leech' abilities with 2 ranged attack damage and decent speed made it a powerful unit that's why I put it in the second last position to minimize the risk of getting attacked early in the battle.

Also, I used a couple of 'sneaky' monsters which attacked the units at the end of the lineup and in most cases you will find weaker units at the end of the lineup, especially in lower-league battles.

This strategy, as you will see, worked in my favour and gave me an easy win in the end.

My opponent went for a heavy magic attack and thought I would use the same so they used the Thaddius Brood as their summoner which decreased my magic damage and health by 1.

They also had a strong tank in the front of the lineup capable of healing itself and had a good amount of health to start with, I am talking about the Xenith Monk.

Round 1 was a tight round with back and forth. While all the attackers from the enemy camp attacked my tank, my attack was more spread between the first and last units. That's the reason my tank was destroyed after round 1 but their Xenith Monk was still standing. However, it was poisoned which was a good thing for me.

Round 2 was a moving round I killed one of the most critical units from their backline which was giving extra armour to all the units. Also, their Xenith Monk got eliminated. My Uraeus also got eliminated by the end of this round.

Until now, it looked like a close battle but the next couple of rounds went in my favour entirely and I won the battle at the end. It was a tight game but I came out on top in this battle.

Conclusion

As you just saw in the above battle, Merdhampir can be very effective in your lineup. In the above battle, it started with 4 health and ended the battle with 7 and during the entire battle, it played a good role and added a lot of offensive strength to my lineup.

It is very useful in the lower mana cap battle or specific rulesets like 'little league' etc. Costing just 4 mana, and having two very interesting abilities, 'Life Leech and 'Cripple' makes it a powerful unit.

I recommend this unit. Let me know if you use any other strategies and what are your views about this unit.

Thanks for reading...
