My Splinterlands Social Media Challenge! Stalemate between two Djinn Oshannus

Hello guys, this is my entry to the "Splinterlands Social Media Challenge!". If you want to participate and/or read more about the challenge, click here.

We are almost at the end of another season. I have played Modern almost exclusively due to the recent removal of bots, it feels good to play with real players and I don't feel as bad getting defeated by them...lol. But I would say that it takes more time now for matchmaking which is understandable too.

Anyways, This week I will talk about another interesting unit that I use a lot in my battles but I haven't talked about it much in my blogs. I will share an interesting battle where both players used the legendary Djinn Oshannus and it turned into a long battle.

I will show you how, let's take a look at its stats in detail.

Djinn Oshannus

Chaos Legion

Legendary
ELEMENT

LEVEL

MANA COST
8 POINTS
ABILITIES
Void, Phase

Djinn Oshannus is a powerful legendary unit from the Water element. It costs 8 mana but justifies this relatively big cost with its huge amount of health and attacking strength. Its 'Void' ability combined with massive health makes it a great defender and can be placed at the front of the lineup.

I had a level 2 unit which deals 2 magic attack damage with great speed. Its health is a strong suit and came with a massive 11 hp. If it had some armor it would have been a perfect defender. It is quite effective against magic attackers because of its 'void' ability and the 'phase' ability helps to dodge even those magic attacks.

Let's see how I utilised it in one of my battles. Any guesses?

My Lineup

This is my lineup for the battle

Position
Summoner/Monsters
Summoner
Obsidian
Position 1
Torrent Fiend
Position 2
Djinn Oshannus
Position 3
Ice Pixie
Position 4
Halfing Alchemist
Position 5
Igor Darkspear

It was just an 18-mana cap battle and had the standard ruleset which is quite rare even in silver league.

All elements except Fire and Earth were active during this battle. I just had 18 mana to work with so I had to be very efficient in spending my mana. I went for the Water element and used Keyla Frendul as my summoner which gave an extra shield and speed point to all my friendly units.

I used the Torrent Fiend in the first position as it was a zero mana cost unit and had 2 health points. I didn't expect much from this unit but it is always good to include a zero mana unit. I placed it in the first position as it won't be able to attack from any other position and it didn't hinder the attacks of any other units.

I used the Djinn Oshannus in the next position as my tank. It was an easy decision looking at the amount of health and attacking strength it comes with, it is one of the best tanks in Water element for me. Its 'Void' and 'phase' abilities are very effective against mages which I was expecting my opponent to use as well. I didn't have much mana left after as I spent most of my mana on just summoner and tank so I had to use some cheap units next.

Ice Pixie was a nice unit for my next position as it costs just 2 mana and had the 'flying' ability and can deal magic attack which is a big bonus. Because of its low health, I had to place it somewhere in the middle of the lineup to stay away from attacks of sneaky units.

Another low mana-costing unit I placed in my lineup was Halfing Alchemist. It cost just 2 mana and was the only ranged attacker in my lineup. Its 'halving' ability is so powerful, especially against tanks that deal a lot of damage. This was the game changer in my battle as you will see.

Last but not least was Igor Darkspear, another low-cost unit but having relatively high heath. It dealt 2 ranged attacks with good speed. These stats were enough for me to include it in my lineup even though it didn't have any abilities.

Now that my lineup was set, it was time for battle.

I will share my battle here, which I have uploaded to YouTube.

My Strategy

Since this was only an 18 mana battle. I had to use every drop of it very carefully. I went with the strategy to use a strong tank at the front and this role was very well accomplished by Djinn Oshannus.

This battle had a standard ruleset and using a unit that can take those mage attacks and reduce their damage is so vital my tank did it very well because of its 'Void' ability and huge health.

I used low-costing units (0 and 2 mana) a lot in this battle as I wanted to fill most of the spots with just 18 mana. I used the Halfing Alchemist which should be able to decrease the attack of its target. It is very effective against strong tanks that deal a lot of damage.

I also made sure to shield my most valuable and weaker units from the attack by placing them somewhere in the middle of the lineup and not at the edge of the lineup.

This strategy, as you will see, worked in my favour and gave me an easy win in the end.

My opponent went with a similar strategy but they had Venari Marksrat in front of their lineup which helped their Djinn Oshannus with increased stats but my Halfing Alchemist proved to be a game changer and decrease its attack to just 1 magic attack damage.

It effectively means that my Djinn Oshannus cannot take damage from theirs. But my opponent had Merdaali Guardian which healed their tank after each round and we were in a loop.

This loop went on for 20 rounds and finally at round 21 the fatigue sets in and the damage took out my Ice Pixie which was not doing much anyways.

In the next round, their healer died from the fatigue damage and I had a nice advantage. Finally, the loop was broken and I had the upper hand.

The battle went on for a couple of more rounds but my win was inevitable. Finally, after 24 rounds of back and fourth, I came out victorious. The combination of Djinn Oshannus and Halfing Alchemist proved to be a nice strategy.

Conclusion

As you just saw in the above battle, Djinn Oshannus can be very effective in your lineup. In the above battle, it survived the continuous enemy attacks for two rounds without any heal and if not for its 'void' ability I would be having a very tough time winning that battle.

It is very useful in low-mid cap battles. Even with its 8 mana costs it leaves much room for other units to be used, especially if you used cheaper units at the back.

I recommend this unit and have been using it in my battles for a long time. Let me know if you use any other strategies and what are your views about this unit.

Thanks for reading...
