My Splinterlands Social Media Challenge! The Halfing Alchemist

avatar

Hello guys, this is my entry to the "Splinterlands Social Media Challenge!". If you want to participate and/or read more about the challenge, click here.

We are in the middle of another tough splinterlands season and as bots are going off from the modern format it has become more competitive but I like the challenge it offers. One of the units that has been helping me throughout this season is the epic neutral unit, Halfing Alchemist and I am here to talk more about this impressive unit.

Let's start by looking at its stats in detail.

Halfing Alchemist is a neutral epic unit that only costs 2 mana to use and comes with a unique and powerful ability called 'halfing'. It reduces the attack of its target to half, which is extremely effective against units with strong attacks.

I had a level 2 which comes with 2 speed points and deals 1 ranged attack damage. However, it only has 1 health point which is somewhat supported by its 1 armour. I usually place it somewhere at the end of my lineup because of its ranged attack but tucking it somewhere in the middle of the lineup is a good strategy too when you don't want it to be attacked by those sneaky units that attack at the back of the lineup.

Let's see how I used it in one of my battles.

My Lineup

This is my lineup for the battle

Position 1
Chain Golem
Position 2
Tortisian Chief
Position 3
Dax Paragon
Position 4
Venari Crystalsmith
Position 5

It was a 27-mana cap battle and had the 'Tis but Scratches' ruleset which means that all monsters will have the cripple abilities that reduce the max health of units when enemy unit strikes.

All elements except 'Dragon' were active during this battle. With 27 mana to use, I wanted to use a lot of weaker units so I had to use a summoner which would help them last longer and Lorna Shine was the perfect candidate for that as it gives the 'Divine Shield' ability to all my friendly units.

My primary tank in this battle was Chain Golem. It costs 8 mana but comes with nice stats, dealing 3 melee attack damage with 7 hp and 4 armour. It also comes with the 'Shield' ability which is effective against melee and ranged attackers. I had high hopes for this unit and it was the glue that should held this lineup together.

Next in line was Tortosian Chief, a mage that dealt 2 magic attack damage and had a good amount of health too. However, it had no abilities and cost 5 mana.

Dax Paragon came in third place in my lineup. It was another mage which cost just 2 mana and dealt 1 magic attack damage. It also comes with 'amplify' ability which was not that useful during my lineup but I needed some cheaper units for my lineup and this fits perfectly.

In the next third position, I used ranged attackers and the first one out of those was Venari Crystalsmith who has the 'tank heal' ability which goes well with a strong tank at the front of the lineup. It cost 4 mana and came with decent health too.

Another low-cost unit in my lineup was Grendier which comes with its 'oppress' ability that deals double damage when attacking an enemy that has no attacks. It cost just 3 mana but dealt strong ranged attack damage. However, its health is not good.

Last but not least was the star performer Halfing Alchemist, a ranged attacker costing just 2 mana but having a super useful ability 'halving' which can reduce the damage output of its target to half. This is very effective against heavy attackers placed in the front position in the enemy lineup. You will see how it helped change the consequence of the following battle.

Now that my lineup was set, it was time for battle.

I will share my battle here, which I have uploaded to YouTube.

My Strategy

It was an interesting ruleset (Tis but Scratches) and with 27 mana cap battle only, I had to make sure my units had extra protection. And to achieve that I used the summoner that gave the 'Divine shield' ability to all the units. This ought to make them last longer during the battle.

Chain Golem was my tank in this battle as it has good defensive and offensive abilities and comes with a 'shield' ability that is very effective against melee and ranged attack. I used a unit with 'tank heal' too to support it further.

The most crucial role played by a unit in this lineup has to be by our highlighted unit, the Halfing Alchemist which lasted until the end and reduced the attacking strength of a couple of heavy hitters.

This strategy, as you will see, worked in my favour and gave me a comfortable win at the end.

My opponent went with a heavy magic attacking strategy and used Obsidian as their summoner to further increase their magic attack damage.

Round 1 didn't go in my favour as it ended with the demise of my Chain Golem while they still had all their units intact.

Their Unicorn Mustang was safe and secure at the front while their **Mycelic Slipspawn took most of the hits. After Mycelia died now my Halfing Alchemist showed how useful it is and reduced the damage output of their tank to just 1. This was a great help and we slowly caught up in this battle.

Even when it eventually died and the next heavy attacker (Goblin Psychic) came in the front of the lineup, its attack was also reduced to just 1 by the magic of 'halving' ability... this sealed my victory and at the end, it was a comfortable win which didn't look like it at the start. Just because of our highlighted unit, the Halfing Alchemist we were able to snatch this victory.

Conclusion

As you just saw in the above battle, Halfing Alchemist can be a very important unit in some lineups, especially when the opponent uses a bunch of strong attackers in the front of the lineup. Reducing the attack damage of those powerful strikes can change the fate of the battle easily.

It costs only 2 mana which is a strong plus point and the fact that it is a neutral unit makes it very versatile and it can fit in with multiple compositions no matter what type of mana cap you have. It deserves to be a legendary unit. I highly recommend having this unit in your deck.
