Lore

When the Chaos Legion entered the Splinterlands through the rift in Mount Praetorius and laid to ruin the great castle of the Gargoya, many of the stone gargoyles fled across the sea and scattered to other continents. However, some remained in the rubble, searching for a way to rebuild their kingdom. These became known as Scrappers.

GARGOYA SCRAPPER is a low cost (1 mana) common life unit. It has 1 Melee attack with 2 speed and 2 HP at level 1. It doesn't come with any ability at this level as it is already a cheap and effective monster. Many players use it at the front of the lineup but I placed it at the very back. Why would I do that? Read more to find out why.

My lineup for the match

I chose Mother Khala as my splinter for the battle. She gave an extra health points to all my monsters which were very helpful during the battle. Mana cap was 29 and I utilized every single mana. It was a standard game with no modification applied. Hence, we both can choose our cards with greater freedom.

I placed the Shield Bearer in the first position on my lineup. It has 4 armour on its own and has good health too. It was a perfect tank for my battle. His taunt ability didn't allow anyone to attack any other cards until he is dead.

Next was a quick flying golden eagle, the Luminous Eagle. It is one of the best cards to be placed in the 2nd spot due to its reach ability that allows it to attack even from the 2nd position. To make things sweeter it has 2 Melee attacks and a decent heath. I use the Luminous Eagle quite often when playing with life splinters.

In the third position, I placed the Celestial Harpy, a flying beast with an effective damage against weaker cards because of its opportunity ability. Some people can argue about its raw stats but it has good abilities.

Next came a special unit, the Time Mage, this mage is very effective due to its slow ability that reduces every monster speed on the opponent's lineup. It also deals with quick (4 speed) magic attacks which are a huge bonus with this card. Every mana spent on this is worth it in the end.

In the next position, came the Cave Slug, they deal 2 melee damage but not normal damage, they deal damage to the weakest monsters utilizing their opportunity ability.

In the last position, I placed the Gargoya Scrapper. Although I knew that it will not be able to attack from this position, I chose them in this place just to absorb one or two hits from the enemy monsters, especially from those monsters who attack weakest or monsters at the end.

My Strategy

My overall strategy was to put a solid tank in the front that will provide the cover to all my other monsters and put high hitting low health monsters in the middle to shield them from the incoming attacks. I used the Cave Slug and Celestial Harpy both attacking the weakest monsters first. They quickly got rid of the weaker monster and it looked hopeless for the opponent after the first round itself.

I used Shield Bearer intentionally to utilize its Taunt ability which didn't let my opponent attack my other cards.

I will share my battle here, which I have uploaded to YouTube.

ROUND 1

round1.PNG

Round 1 starts with powerful attacks from both sides. My opponent used a triple sniping setup. My tank, Shield Bearer stood its ground and got most of the hits while my Gargoya Scrapper sacrifice itself which was exactly its role for this battle. But two monsters fell from the opposite side rather quickly and his tank is also looking weak.

Time Mage's slow ability was very effective during the first round of the battle.

ROUND 2

round2.PNG

Round 2 saw more fierce fighting between both the tanks and eventually both died one by one by the end of round 2. The important distinction at the end of round 2 is that I don't have ranged monsters most of them deal melee damage while only one monster remains on the opposite side which can work from the first position.

ROUND 3 and 4

round3.PNG

Round 3 saw the end of hope for my opponent and it was all over at this moment even with two cards still left but they were ranged attackers and worthless in the first position. It was an easy win.

RESULTS

It was a swift win for me. The battle ended in just 4 rounds. My cards overwhelmed the opponent, it was not the best strategy for my opponent and the card placements were also dubious.

Did your strategy work? What will you try differently next time?

Yes, my strategy worked perfectly this time. My use of a strong tank in the front proved to be a decisive strategy. I could have used the Gargoya Scrapper in the first position as well.

Do you like the Gargoya Scrapper? Why or why not?

I like the Gargoya Scrapper because of its very low cost and it can prove very effective in low mana battles. You can use it in the last position as well as I have used it in this battle.
