Testing new Monsters from Rebellion - MOXIAN REBEL

Hello guys, this is my entry to the "Splinterlands Social Media Challenge!". If you want to participate and read more about the challenge, click here.

The Rebellion edition came out earlier this month and with it, there came a lot of new summoners and monsters. There are some meta-changing abilities and gameplay changes too which made it more interesting and challenging at the same time. One of the keys to success in this game is to know all of your units and how they can be best used in the battle. And here is me trying to educate myself and others with these posts that talk about one of the new units which came out during this sale. In this post, we will talk about a Rare Neutral unit, the Moxian Rebel.

Let's start by looking at its stats in detail.

Moxian Rebel is a common water unit that came out during the recent Rebellion sale. It just costs 4 mana to use and deals magic attack damage. But the best part is its 'weapon training' ability gives the adjacent non-attacking units magic attack damage too and it can be very deadly, especially in low-cap mana battles.

I will show you how I utilised it in one of my battles.

My Lineup

This is my lineup for the battle

Position

Summoner
Kelya Frendul
Position 1
Chaos Rear Guard
Position 2
Pirate of Eight
Position 3
Chaos Agent
Position 4
Moxian Rebel
Position 5
Merdaali Guardian

It was just a 19-mana cap brawl battle and had the following ruleset:

  • Broken Arrows - Ranged attack monsters may not be used in battles.
  • Little League - Only monsters and summoners that cost 4 mana or less may be used in battles.
  • Rise of the Commons - Only commons and Rare monsters may be used in battles.

All elements, except Earth and Life, were active during this battle. I went with Keyla Frendul as I wanted to give extra armour to all my units and make them quicker which is very effective in low mana cap battles like this one.

Chaos Bear Guard was my tank in this battle as it was a little league ruleset so the best I could find for my tank was this one which dealt 1 melee attack damage and came with the 'Shield' ability and had an armour point of its own. Its ability helps it reduce melee attack damage in this battle.

Next in my lineup was Pirate of Eight, another unit costing 4 mana and dealing 1 melee attack damage. But this one came at half of the health of the first one but its 'Blast' ability compensates for that lower health and makes it a deadly monster. Its reach ability makes it useful in this second position.

I placed the Chaos Agent in the next position, it just costs 1 mana and doesn't come with any attack damage. But you can give it weapon training, which will be more useful in your lineup.

So for 'Weapon Training' I used the Moxian Rebel which is perfect for this and costs just 4 mana so I could use it in this little league ruleset as well. Having magic attack damage is very effective for this as the adjacent non-attacking cards will also get the magic attack damage which is very powerful in this type of battle.

Last but not least was the Merdaali Guardian. I wanted to use a healing unit that can make my tank last even longer so I used this and with the weapon training it received it got more useful in this battle. All this cost just 3 mana only.

Now that my lineup was set, it was time for battle.

I will share my battle here, which I have uploaded to YouTube.

My Strategy

This was a challenging battle with restrive rulesets that took out many units, all the rulesets: Broken Arrow, Little League and Rise of the Commons made the battle a bit challenging as you were left with few units to make your lineup with and the low mana cap unit is challenging on its own.

But the Moxian Rebel played a beautiful role in this lineup and gave magic attack damage to two non-attacking units this changed the entire course of this battle and helped me get a more attacking lineup. Not to forget the crucial role played by my tank at the front and the healing support given by Merdaali Guardian. Every unit played its part beautifully in this battle.

This strategy, as you will see, worked in my favour and gave me a comfortable win at the end.

My opponent went with an interesting strategy. They used a dual element summoner Dolfar Darflak which is both Death and Fire summoner. They used the Krash Wanderford as their tank which has increased speed and is effective against melee attackers but my focus was more on magic damage.

They also used the Moxian Rebel but didn't utilize it to its full potential.

Round 1 was not filled with a lot of action and none of the units got eliminated but their tank got much weaker and got eliminated early in the next round.

My tank got healed back up to full health at the start of round 3 and my opponent had the worst round as their units fell like a house of cards, one after the other while my units were all standing and mostly in full health.

I had better defense and offense which overwhelmed my opponent's lineup in just a few rounds and registered an easy win. The difference was made by how we both utilised the Moxian Rebel.

Conclusion

As you just saw in the above battle, Moxian Rebel is a very useful unit that costs just 4 mana and can fit in most of the lineups. It can boost the attacking strength of your lineup by a lot without costing much. If you successfully give the weapon training to your adjacent units just like we saw in the above battle, it can be a game changer.

The only drawback is its low health so it should be guarded well in your lineup.

But most times, we had good defences with extra armour and health and we needed more attacking strength so this could be used, especially in low mana cap battles. I can't recommend it enough, let me know if you find it useful as well.
