Hello guys, this is my entry to the "Splinterlands Social Media Challenge!". If you want to participate and read more about the challenge, click here.

The Rebellion edition is the latest edition of cards in splinterlands and there are a lot of new summoners and monsters which came out with this one. Each week I focus on different monsters and talk about them in detail with strategies that best fit them. This week, we have a Rare Earth unit, Lioceros, a powerful striker that works perfectly as a tank in your battle.

Let's start by looking at its stats in detail.

Lioceros is a Rare Earth unit that came out during the recent Rebellion edition. It is a high mana cost unit costing 7 mana to use but it comes with some impressive stats. It deals significant melee attack damage and comes with a huge amount of armour of its own. Its 'Thorns' ability helps deal extra damage back to melee attacker which makes it an impressive tank that one can use at the front of the lineup.

Let me show you how it performs using a battle as an example.

My Lineup

This is my lineup for the battle

Position
Summoner/Monsters
Summoner
Underboss Fabino
Position 1
Lioceros
Position 2
Pallus
Position 3
Regal Peryton
Position 4
Goblin Psychic
Position 5
Magi of Chaos
Position 6
Mycelic Slipspawn

It was a 48-mana cap battle with the "Armored Up" ruleset which gives all the monsters 2 extra armour in addition to their normal armour stat.

All except Fire and Water elements were active during this battle. I went with Underboss Fabino which gives two options during the tactic stage: +2 melee attack to two units or give one opponent unit 'poison'.

It should not be a surprise that Lioceros was my tank for this battle as it came with 6 armour and a 'thorns' ability along with 3 melee attack damage and a lot of health. It costs only 7 mana and having all these impressive stats at this cost is worth a lot.

The next one in my lineup was Pallus. I used it in the second position as it can attack even from there because of its 'reach' ability. Moreover, it comes with the 'flying' ability so it would have more missed chances too. It also costs 8 mana but is worth that as it deals 3 melee attack damage and has good health with a shield too!

Regal Peryton was placed in the third position, which costs 5 mana and deals 2 magic attack damage with incredible speed. It's a 'flying' ability for him it dodges more attacks. So, it was a no-brainer for me to choose in this battle.

The next one was Goblin Psychic, a healer that supports my tank as it comes with a 'tank heal' ability. It costs only 6 mana and deals 2 magic attack damage.

Magi of Chaos was placed in the next position in my lineup. As you can see I focused more on magic attackers because of the extra armour that the units were going to get from the ruleset. It also costs 6 mana and deals heavy magic attack damage with relatively lower health, and that's why I put it at the back of the lineup.

Last but not least was Mycelic Slipspawn. It was another mage that had a lot of health and an interesting ability, taunt, which made all the units attack this unit first. Not only that, but it also had the 'forcefield' ability. So, it takes a lot of time to eliminate this unit.

Now that my lineup was set, it was time for battle.

I will share my battle here, which I have uploaded to YouTube.

My Strategy

It was an "Armored Up" ruleset with plenty of mana to spare. So, I focused on using mages as they ignore the extra shields that are applied to the units. But at the same time, I used my highlighted unit, Lioceros, at the front of the lineup which made the whole lineup strong as it is a powerful tank and I used the Goblin Psychic to support my tank by providing it with healing.

Also, the use of heavy magic attack helped strengthen my lineup and gave me much more attacking strength while the extra armour already gave me good defensive capabilities. So, it was a healthy mix of both attack and defence.

This strategy, as you will see, worked in my favour and gave me a comfortable win in the end.

My opponent went with a similar strategy but they didn't have enough magic attackers and had more melee attackers that were going to be not that effective against the extra armour which we got during this battle. We both had the Mycelic Slipspawn on each side, and they were the first to take the beating in round 1.

My team drew the first blood at the start of round 2 and by that, everything was looking stable and very competitive. Soon my Mycelic Slipspawn got eliminated as well.

Now, it was time for their Pelacor Mercenary to take the beating at round 2. By the end of this round, it was eliminated too. This paved the way for a win for me. I had already poisoned their Goblin Psychic during the tactic stage of this battle.

To no one surprise, the rest of my opponent's team didn't last that long and got eliminated soon as early as the start of round 4. My Lioceros was still standing at the front of the lineup as I registered this easy win.

Conclusion

As you just saw in the above battle, Lioceros plays a crucial role in your lineup, not only does it increase the attacking strength of your lineup by dealing heavy melee attack damage, but it also adds to the defensive strength and having it in the first position in your lineup is the optimal place that I can easily recommend. It glues the entire lineup and is a very effective tank.

Costing 7 mana is not such a high cost, especially keeping its stats and ability in mind. It works well in medium to high-range mana cap battles. It is extremely effective against melee and ranged attackers as it comes with a lot of armour. I recommend it. Let me know if you find it useful as well.
