Testing some strategies with Lioceros, a strong tank in your lineup

Hello guys, this is my entry to the "Splinterlands Social Media Challenge!". If you want to participate and read more about the challenge, click here.

The Rebellion reward cards will be out on 15th August and there are a lot of new cards coming, a total of 43 new cards, some with unique abilities are coming. I will be waiting to see and play with those cards. But until then, I will be talking about non-reward Rebellion cards and today I am highlighting a Rare Earth unit called, Lioceros. It is a powerful attacker and can be used as a tank in your lineup.

Let's start by looking at its stats in detail.

Lioceros, a rare Earth unit, came out in the Rebellion edition and players loved it for its impressive stats. I liked it a lot because of its ability to work as a tank in the lineup. It costs 7 mana and deals a good amount of melee attack damage. And comes with huge health and shields.

Its 'thorns' ability along with the armour makes it a good tank and a perfect candidate for a mid-high level mana cap. I used it quite often in my lineup and most of the time it works really well in this position.

Let me show you how it performs using a battle as an example.

My Lineup

This is my lineup for the battle

Summoner/Monsters
Summoner
Obsidian
Position 1
Lioceros
Position 2
Mycelic Slipspawn
Position 3
Regal Peryton
Position 4
Uraeus
Position 5
Djinn Bijlka
Position 6
Gobson Sniper

It was a 37-mana cap battle with the Odd One Out ruleset. So, only monsters with odd Mana values could be used in this battle.

All elements except Life and Dragon were active during this ruleset. I went with Obsidian as I wanted to focus more on mages and deal magic attack damage.

It should not be a surprise that Lioceros was my tank for this battle as it came with 6 armour and a 'thorns' ability along with 3 melee attack damage and a lot of health. It costs only 7 mana and having all these impressive stats at this cost is worth a lot.

Next was Mycelic Slipspawn, this was probably the most important in this lineup. Dealing 2 magic damage with good speed and having a lot of health. It comes with a 'taunt' ability which makes it soak the pressure from my tank and makes my Lioceros last even longer.

Regal Peryton was placed in the third position, which costs 5 mana and deals 2 magic attack damage with incredible speed. It's a 'flying' ability for him it dodges more attacks. So, it was a no-brainer for me to choose in this battle.

Uraeus was placed in the fourth position in my lineup. It cost just 3 mana and dealt melee attack damage with the surprise element of 'sneak'.

Another unit that cost 3 mana was Djinn Biljka. However, it dealt 2 magic attack damage but with lower health. This was compensated by its 'camouflage' ability so it won't get attacked until it gets to the first position in the lineup and that will take a long time in this lineup.

Last but not least was Goblin Sniper. It was the only ranged attacker and dealt heavy attacks. It came with three useful abilities. This was a good addition to my already-powerful lineup.

Now that my lineup was set, it was time for battle.

I will share my battle here, which I have uploaded to YouTube.

My Strategy

It was an 'Odd Ones Out' ruleset with a lot of active elements. So, I didn't have any problems with the restrictions. I went with the Obsidian as my summoner as I wanted to deal a lot of damage and the best form of damage in the game, according to me, is magic damage. Even though I used the Obsidian I didn't use a ton of mages.

I went with the Lioceros as my tank because of its impressive stats and good attacking strength. I supported it further by using Mycelic Slipspawn and deflecting more attacks.

I went with a lot of power and offence, especially towards the end of the lineup. A few sturdy units at the front to soak up the pressure and then use the attackers at the end.

This strategy, as you will see, worked in my favour and gave me a comfortable win in the end.

Conclusion

As you just saw in the above battle, Lioceros is a powerful unit and plays the role of a tank beautifully. Not only does it deal a lot of damage, but it has enough health and armour that it can last a long time, especially when being supported by other units in the form of healing or extra armour. That's the reason I can recommend it easily in the first place in your lineup.

Costing 7 mana is not such a high cost, especially keeping its stats and ability in mind. It works well in medium to high-range mana cap battles. It is extremely effective against melee and ranged attackers as it comes with a lot of armour and 'thorns' ability. I recommend it. Let me know if you find it useful as well.
