Genesis League Goals... Excited but Cautious!

After reading a very good post on the upcoming Genesis Sports League collaboration between the Splinterlands folks and Major League Soccer (the future home of all retired footie players haha - I joke because I love!), I got very excited and started planning how I could leverage my mediocre career in Splinterlands with my abstract and honestly mediocre fandom of the Minnesota Loons MLS team. Now, soccer does not have the same appeal to me this year as a diehard Liverpool FC fan (#YNWA! ..but you could also win a game in the Premier League, ok? Pleeeezzzz?)

, but magical words like "airdrop" and "staking" always get me to cheer!

The long and the short of it is that after trying a few other Football Manager games on the blockchain and either getting gassed or priced out of them (Sorare) or getting bored and holding too many diluted assets (Cosmos11), I think I could enjoy this game and having some benefits for having my SPS staked might mean I would not get priced out right away.

There is an initial presale wave starting soon (October 18th!), with more waves to follow. The most exciting part is that starting October 25th you can get airdrops of the governance token, GLX, for having your SPS staked. Awesome! Then, starting in November you can earn vouchers toward pack presale discounts if you stake GLX in turn. Also pretty awesome!

Here are the key dates for these events:
October 18 - Genesis League Goals pack presale Wave 1 starts
October 25 - Genesis League GLX governance token airdrop starts
Late October - Staking of GLX can earn discount vouchers for pack presale Wave 2
November - Discount voucher tokens for pack presale Wave 2 will start

This is all very complicated for me, but as far as I can tell, the key steps to take to maximize this new game launch, even if you do not want to buy packs or play, is to have SPS staked now and through October 25 to get the GLX airdrop (check!), register for a Genesis League Goals account so that you can stake your GLX and get that discount voucher token.

Or, at least that's what i think you are supposed to do. Right now, the official guide to Genesis League Goals provides instructions for registering with the game that includes a link to https://goals.genesisleaguesports.com/ and instructions that cannot be followed because the page is just a counter for the pack presale. Bad luck!

For me, the biggest concern I have is how many times the three dreaded letters K-Y-C are mentioned on the FAQ page. Just look here and tell me that you don't get the shivers!

Will accounts need to KYC again for GLS if they have already completed KYC on Splinterlands?
Yes, for the first presale they will. We hope to change this for future sales.
Will I need KYC done to participate in the presale?
Yes, if you are paying with PayPal you will need to complete KYC.
Can I do KYC before the presale launches
Yes; we intend to launch the ability to create a GLG account and do KYC 10/18/2022 at 9AM EST.
How can I avoid having to KYC?
Paying with Hive directly will be the only method that does not need KYC.

It kind of looks like we won't need KYC for the presale if we pay with HIVE> But the answer to the first question with a "Yes" is not reassuring. Obviously if you are operating on Hive pseudonymously then doing KYC for this game could be the SINGLE BIGGEST DECISION YOU CAN MAKE for your Hive life. I definitely will not be doing KYC. My lazy and generally confused ass has already left so many breadcrumbs that even Chief Wiggums from the Simpsons could track me down eventually, but I am not going to hand over Hive to the Powers That Be if I can at all avoid it!

I would love to say that I went and signed up and could say one way or the other whether KYC is required but I can't because the page to sign up is just Nope. I have to imagine it is too late now if you are not already signed up for Genesis League Goals there will be no presale Wave 1 for you! (Or me!)

But you can bet I will be checking that page to see if I get any airdrops, if I can register, and if they are going to really let us stay pseudonymous if we use Hive.
