My Battle Weekly Challenge Using Unicorn Mustang by Sinflair!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hey Everyone! This is Sinflair (IGN: project10back) here and this is my second weekly battle challenge! I hope you enjoy it! This week, I did not have a Defender of Truth. However, I would love to showcase this awesome battle using Unicorn Mustang. I enjoyed using Unicorn Mustang so much that I made a video on it! Watch it Below! Here is a link to replay the same battle so you can follow my process while reading this post!

Unicorn Mustang's Stats

Before we start the battle, lets talk about Unicorn Mustang's stats. He is an untamed rare earth monster. He deals melee damage. His health, melee, and ability is great for a tank. His Speed is amazing for his cost. Having 4 speed allows it to dodge most other tanks and support that have melee and ranged attack. To defend against magic, he has void which I think is better than magic reflect. Void Halves the damage from incoming magic attack then rounds up. Unicorn Mustang is mostly used as a high level tank where he competes for usage against Minotaur Warlord and Rexxie. I used him at level one and that is adequate at silver three.

Prebattle Analysis

If you didn't feel like watching the video its ok! I have written down a battle analysis breaking it down! So lets start with the ruleset! It was Lost Legendaries. This ruleset is pretty simple to explain. No one can use any legendaries. The mana cap was small at 17. I was also limited to only the dragon, death, and earth splinters. I chose to go with the dragon splinter because it had an awesome summoner that could supplement my team's strategy.

Team Members and Layout

My Summoner of Choice

As is the case with small mana games, the summoner is the key to victory. Since the mana was small at 17 and only death and earth could be chosen, I calculated that magic would be nearly non existent. The best death magic monsters tend to cost a lot. Ancient Lich, Cthulhu, and Phantom Soldier are all examples of this. The earth splinter also has good high cost magic monsters like Kron the Undying and Oaken Behemoth. Since the ruleset was lost legendaries, I knew two of the high cost earth and death magic monsters would be nonplayable. This made countering melee and ranged an easy decision. I could have chosen Mylor Crowling to hard counter melee but that would leave ranged attackers to destroy my team. I went with Brighton Bloom to give everyone on my team the flying ability. The flying ability increases the chance to cause the opponent to miss by 25%. This counters both melee and ranged monsters.

My Tank

Here I went with the awesome Unicorn Mustang. He is a prime example of an awesome tank. He has a bunch of health, speed, melee and an awesome ability as void. Since my strategy was all about causing the opponent to miss, I had to go with a high speed monster in conjunction with flight.

My Support

My backrow consisted of Furious Chicken, Creeping Ooze, Khmer Princess, and Naga Assassin. I placed my chicken in slot two to tank for the rest of the support if Unicorn Mustang fell. Creeping Ooze went third to slow down the opponent and be a cushion for the rest of the team. Creeping Ooze was also beneficial to my plan which helped cause my opponent to miss so often since he reduces everyone on the opponents team by 1. Khmer Princess was my magic attacker since I had a melee and a ranged already. Naga Assasin protected Khmer Princess' behind and helped her attack. Naga Assassin is great due to her fast speed. It also great that she only costs two mana.

The Battle

The Beginning

To start the battle, the conditions apply. My entire team receives the flying ability and the opponent's team has their speed reduced. Three out of four monsters on my opponent's team had 1 speed. As I predicted, the opponent chose mainly melee and ranged attackers. I overlooked the undead priest because, I normally run into them at level one where they don't have an attack.

The Action

My Furious Chicken was soaked up three damage that would have hit Creeping Ooze. Then my Khmer Princess got destroyed from the magic reflect. It wasn't looking good for my team at the time. At least I still had my main speed monsters. Then my Creeping Ooze took a shot from my opponent's Twisted Jester. The strategy was faltering now that my opponent had their speed back. My Unicorn then got hit from both a two speed Haunted Spirit and Spider. The chances of a hit like that was 55% independently. Now my Unicorn Mustang was left with two health. That meant I had to dodge everything after this moment. My Naga Assassin went down from the Twisted Jester. That miss chance was also 55%. The chance for all three of those attacks to land was 16.64%. Now it was entirely down to a damaged Unicorn Mustang. What happened next was amazing! He dodged all three of Haunted Spider's attacks which was 45% miss chance independently but 9.11% together. This brought allowed him to be face to face with the spider itself and after that it was game over.

Miss Calculations

You may have been wondering how I calculated the miss percentage. It is pretty simple. You take the difference between the defending and attacking monsters speed, multiply that by 10%, then add any abilities like flying, dodge, or blind. Lets take a battle where Haunted Spirit is attacking Unicorn Mustang for example. So at the start of the match Unicorn Mustang had 4 speed and the opponents Haunted Spirit had 1 speed. So its 4-1 which is 3. Then you multiply that by 10% to equal 30%. Now you factor in abilities. Unicorn mustang had flying and Haunted spirit did not have an ability that contributed in raising it's chance to hit. So flying add 25% to the 30% and that is a 55% dodge chance. Once you get this down, you can start calculating it in your head for every attack.

Summary

I was extremely happy with Unicorn Mustang and the other supporting team members. The monsters worked well together to increase my opponents miss chance. Unicorn Mustang is a very underrated earth tank that gets overshadowed by Kron the Undying and Flesh Golem.

Unicorn Mustang is such a great card to use against Magic types, plus that high Speed makes it a pain for enemy melee and range types. Those calculations of yours sound very useful. I will have to start doing the math for friendly and enemy evasion and include that in my future strategies. Thanks!

Thanks for reading my post! Yeah evasion calculations are something that not too many people know about. I am probably gonna make a youtube video about how to calculate it along with all of the weird abilities that contribute to it.

Evasion calculations is something that could help a lot of Splinterlands players. That youtube video sounds like a great idea!

Hey @shortshots! I just made a video about it:

Thank you for the suggestion again!

Fantastic video. Being able to use a formula to calculate evasion really helps a lot.

Just to double-check I got this -- please feel free to correct me if I've misunderstood this:

Evasion Percentage equals Defender Speed minus Attacker Speed first, that multiplied by 10%, and plus or minus Ability Percentages -- such as Flying's +25%

Evasion % = ((Defender Speed - Attacker Speed) * 10) + or - Specific Ability %

Ex. Living Lava attacks Unicorn Mustang so Unicorn Evasion is 4 minus 1, or 3, times 10, equals 30 -- meaning every time Living Lava attacks Unicorn Mustang, it has a 30% chance of missing.

Is that correct?
