Hello again, ye battlemages and spectators alike. Today we are graced with a Death splinter battle featuring none other than...
The Haunted Spider!
This is one of my few alpha cards! I got it for free when it first started as SteemMonsters, along with my copy of the summoner Zintar Mortalis.
Now, as some of your may know, I don't do the Death Splinter. I just don't! Only if there's no other choice. You can check the records! Maybe it's due to my Zintar bring level 1 and that was the only Death summoner I had for a long time, making Death my weakest splinter. It's not my fault, back then I didn't know you had to level up your summoners too!
Even had I a better summoner, I feel like it wouldn't make a difference. I think even my Death monsters are at low levels. I wanted to challenge myself though.

What I like about the Haunted Spider is that at level 1, she already has a ranged attack of 2 but no poison ability yet, unfortunately.

Here is the lineup I created.

I went with my level 1 Zintar over my level 2 Contessa L'ament because I figured I'd be able to muster more monsters with a speed of 1 if they were also level 1, this being a reverse speed battle.

I went with the animated corpse, as it was the best tank I had under the constraints of little league and reverse speed. His 2 attack + 1 speed = yes.

I don't have many Death reaching monsters. For the second position, I recruited the Grumpy Dwarf since he has 2 speed.

Ever since the Opportunity ability was released, I have loved it! I always try to include a monster with this useful ability. That's why I included the Maggots. I just hate how most opportunistic monsters start with low or speed of 1. In this battle however, it is in my favor.

Next in my mashup, I mean lineup, is the Twisted Jester. She has the highest, messing the lowest, speed. I try not to go above speed 3 in reversed speed battles unless it's a magic attacker since they won't miss. I only needed this monster because I was also completing the Snipe quest. Next!

Finally, the Haunted Spider is next. In this position, she is protected from opportunists, snipers, and sneaky monsters alike. This is perfect ruleset to use this monster!

At this point is building my team, there were 5 seconds left and 2 unspent mana points. Before I knew it, the countdown timer read 0. I knew now I only had about 2, maybe 3 seconds to decide before I would automatically forfeit the battle. My eyes were darting across my collection until they landed on a big 2, which I pressed. That is the undead badger, with a speed of 3 he is not the best choice for this battle but we'll see what happens.

Luckily, my opponent did not pick many 'slow' monsters besides the Parasitic Growth, which only managed to rend my dwarf's armor. The Cerberus was taken out before he could heal and the sneaky Kobold miner too before he did any more damage.

I think this battle could not have gone any smoother, which is surprising since me and Death don't get along. Maybe I should make peace with the Death Splinter. Maybe they do have some potential. I need to get more comfortable with them and maybe not expect to lose when I use them.

I had a lot of fun with this challenge. It really took me out of my comfort zone. Thanks for stopping by!
