Hello Hive

Straight from the arena, I bring you another edition of the splinterlands weekly Battle Mage Secrets Challenge. The challenge of this week is to battle with the ruleset "Equalizer". Sit tight as I explain to you all what the ruleset is all about and the practices while selecting a strategy. I will drop the announcement post link here for people who may wish to participate in this weekly challenge. Do well to check it out before participating as it will guide you on the rules for the challenge.

This Week's Ruleset "EQUALIZER"

img_combat-rule_equalizer_150.png

Just as the name implies, the equalizer ruleset gives an equal opportunity to all monsters on the battlefield in terms of health. By the game definition, the initial health of all monsters is equal to that of the monster on either team with the highest base health. For instance, if a monster with 12 health is included in the battle and it happens that it's the highest, every other monster on the battlefield receives the same health just as it's the case of the battle presented.

While selecting a strategy for this ruleset, the concern of the manager should be on the ability, weapon, and speed of the monster to be selected as the health won't matter. As in the case of the presented battle, each selected monster has a minimum of two abilities which is crucial for success. Thanks to the splinterlands decision-makers who have now made it possible to deploy monsters from their highest owned level irrespective of the league.

Strategic Team selection and Positioning

I already pointed out the basis on which team selection for this ruleset should be made. I will, however, explain the strategy behind every monster selected for this monster.

Summoners

KELYA FRENDUL

Vs

LILY SHIELDPAW (Opponent)

Making a comparison of the two summoners used for the battle, My side made do with the Kelya Frendul water element monster while the opponent went for the dragon element Lily Shieldpaw. Frendul has two stats which are an additional one speed for its summoned monsters and an offer of one armor for their protection while the opponent's Shieldpaw has three stats, additional health, Camouflage ability, and triage. While its monsters gain the camouflage ability and get the health, the summoner does the triage thing itself. However, by summoner's stat, the opponent has the lead.

Defenders

DIEMONSHARK

Vs

DJINN OSHANNUS

The defenders for both teams came from the same element but with different weapon types. The Diemonshark who happened to be my team's defender has three crucial abilities. First is trample which enables with to move to attack the next monster on the opponent's team if its target got eliminated on attack. The second is the enrage ability which increases its weapon upon damage to its health. The third is the retaliate ability, which allows it to retaliate if attacked by a melee monster. The retaliation, however, has a trigger percentage, which means it doesn't trigger at every attack. On the other hand, the opponent's defender possesses two anti-magic abilities which are void and phase, and also has the forcefield ability with a camouflage given to it by the summoner.

My team defender was disadvantaged towards the opponent's because of the presence of forcefield ability. With my team defender having the enrage ability, it means its weapon will go beyond five which can not take off more than one health from a monster with the forcefield ability.

MUSA SALINE

We both had this monster in common although the opponent's own was of a higher level. The abilities of Saline which are Scavenger & Shatter were shared, but Dispel was enjoyed by the opponent alone as a result of a higher-level card. The good thing is, the dispel didn't have much impact on my team. The reason behind my selection of saline is because it has high speed and with the shatter ability, it can take down any number of armor at just one hit.

My other Lineup

ANGELIC MANDARIN
mandarin came on with two crucial abilities. The silence ability was used to reduce the magic weapon of the opponent's magic monsters while the triage ability gave my team the same thing the opponent's monsters were getting from their summoner which is healing the back-line monster with the most damage on the team. Another aspect this monster had an advantage over the opponent was speed.

DAARG DEADBLAST
This monster has more than two abilities but the ones utilized here were the swiftness ability which increases the speed of all friendly monsters by one, and the weapon training ability which gives an equal amount of its weapon to a non-weapon monster close to it. MERDAALI GUARDIAN was a beneficiary of its weapon training ability.

MERDAALI GUARDIAN

Guardian was a great part of the team with three abilities. First is the tank heal which was used to restore some portion of the frontline monster's health that have been damaged. Second is the repair ability which repairs some portion of the team's armor that has been damaged and the last is the strengthen which matched the benefit received by the enemy from their summoner by increasing all friendly monster health by one.

TIDE BITER
Truth be told I thought I swapped the position of this monster before the game started but obviously, the swap didn't take effect. Its intended position was right behind the defender due to its reach ability. From the backline, it couldn't fight but with the triage ability on the team, it stayed long enough to secure the life of some very important part of the team. However, its three abilities, reach, reflection shield, and true strike were not utilized in the battle all because of wrong positioning.
