Splinterlands: An Integral part of my crypto journey.

Have you ever heard of the Ember Sword? , A game that has raised more than 200 million in fundings, was in development for more than a couple of years and still not been delivered yet. There is no scope for this to be delivered as the developing studio has already shut down the production of this game citing insufficient funding. I am not sure what exactly or how grand they were making that they found $200 million insufficient but in the end investors and players lose their money in buying virtual assets in-game or by funding it.

Embersword is the latest example, but not the sole one. This list goes on not only for the failed development but also for the rug pulls also. If I go on counting, there will be many games, some known, unknown, or getting developed in obscure blockchains. Few of the known games in this list include "Squid Game" which did token rug pull, Pixelmon , CryptoZoo, and Evolved apes. These are few of the games that made headlines.

How Splinterlands differs from other "Play2earn" blockchain games.

Splinterland's is now currently more than 7 year old blockchain game in Hive Blockchain. Even, though so many years passed, game development, player's activity in game and the community are still active. Where, in most of the game, development is unknown, and decisions are taken centrally, Splinterland's has DAO (Decentralized Autonomous Organization) which governs and shares inputs towards the game state and its future roadmap. DAO actually work on proposal system that get voted by players and investors .(Though amount of SPS staked governs the weight of the vote, SPS is the "fixed" amount, non non-inflationary governance token of the Splinterland's game.) . So Splinterland is not only active but still providing players an option to earn and have fun and community to interact.

Splinterland's overcome multiple challenges in its journey.

It is not that Splinterland's is alone in play2earn genre but what make it unique that Splinterland's still able to sustain itself and doing iterations of development. It is not such that Splinterland's journey is easy as they also have to let their staff go to cut their cost, reduce the freebies to player to promote market sales , and taking tough action against botnets so that they can protect the game from being farmed.

They also faced development delays, but they never lost focus and communicated transparently to the community and released timeline with the items that were taken on priority and kept delivering according to their new milestone chart.

Also, upgraded their UI/UX experience and created comprehenshive tutorials so that they can tap the fresh players and new players do not face difficulty for playing the game.

I started playing Splinterland's on 2019 and more than 6 years now. Though my journey consists of multiple breaks in this time period, but I always come back to play this game. It is also a roller coaster journey as when Splinterland's in peak, my game assets value was more than 2 full bitcoins. Though I never cashed out and missed that train but still Splinterland's assets are a considerable portion of my overall cryptoassets. In this journey, I also learned that apart from Bitcoin, almost all assets value tanked with time, so this can be normalized with the overall crypto space.

How I am grateful to Splinterland's.

Splinterland's give me the guilt free entertainment as I do not feel that I should be doing some other thing instead of playing Splinterland's. It is also true that I am not dependent upon the income generated by Splinterland's but I feel happy about it. At present, though small, I do generate passive income from Splinterland's for my Node Licensces and staked SPS. Earlier I used to generate passive income for my defi Liquidity postions but currently those pool rewards are scraped as there utility to make sure enough liquidity is already achieved. Also it was cut to curb the amount of liquid SPS entering the supply chain.

I participated in the writing challenges organized by team and that challenges not only helped to get some decent upvotes but with time, staking the Hive obtained by these upvotes, I am able to grow my account that helped me in generating curation income, another semi-passive source of income.

Writing for these challenges, gave me urge to keep writing. I understand, English being not being my mother tongue has many serious flaws in writing but atleast with time I am able to construct and present my thought in much better way, if compared to 6 year ago.

Initially, even after thinking for whole day, I literally struggled to write 200 words on a topic, I have overcame this bar now.

It also kept me connected to the social aspect of Hive as well as trading aspect in the Hive Engine. Social aspect kept me updated and reading diverse author from different geographical location of the world give me more geopolitical sense that I do not think is feasible with other social media I am currently using. Also, in the past I am able to create some funds for me by just trading in Hive-Engine.

Overall, Splinterland's has profound impact on my daily activities and I see that my relationship with Splinterland's will be further strngthen with time.
