#14 - Using PeakMonsters to Analyse Player Activity on Splinterlands

Lately, I have been reading a lot of posts in the community on DEC battle rewards update, with one of the key features being removing DEC rewards from Bronze 3 league. If you haven't read it, you can find the official post here.
In response, I have written 2 posts related to this issue as well. The first one was to share my thoughts on why I didn't think this was a good move and you can find it here. The second one was to share how I managed to progress from Bronze 3 to Bronze 1 with just 10 DEC and you can find it here.
In this post, I want to share some of the analytics which one can find on PeakMonsters and hopefully this presents a more objective view of the early impact to the game since this change was implemented on 26 Oct.
1) Number of Battles
- The daily average over the past month is around 9.8mil.
- The peak was achieved on 24 Oct at 11.1mil but it has declined substantially over 26 and 27 Oct.
- On 27 Oct, only 9.0mil battles were registered.
- Indeed, there is some indication of decreased activity.

2) Number of Active Players
- The daily average over the past month is around 396k.
- Once again, the peak was achieved on 24 Oct at 469k players but it has since declined quite substantially over 26 and 27 Oct too.
- On 27 Oct, only 389k active players were recorded, which is the lowest since 12 Oct.
- Consistent with the first chart, there are lesser players playing now.

And if you think this is within normal ups and down...
3) Number of New Players
- The daily average over the past month is 13k signups and 8k spellbooks purchased (Note: For spellbooks, I used 236k divided by 30 days.)
- The decreasing trend is very clear here.
- On 26 Oct, there were only 3,606 new signups and only 2,176 spellbooks were purchased, which is a far cry from the daily average.
- On 27 Oct, there were only 5,083 new signups and only 983 spellbooks were purchased! That is extremely low as the lowest recorded in the past month was around 3k per day between 7 to 9 Oct.

4) Token Price: SPS and DEC
- Both SPS and DEC prices have also declined in the past week but it is hard to judge because crypto prices can be quite volatile.

What are your thoughts on the statistics on 26 Oct and 27 Oct? Have you been playing more or less after this change? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below.
For me, I think there is some indication of a negative impact from the latest changes but it is too early to tell if this is a just a small blip or this will be prolonged. I will definitely keep a closer watch on the trends in the coming weeks.
Finally, kudos to PeakMonsters for the analytics and the easy-to-understand charts!
