#55 - How Important Is Speed In Battles?

The theme for the current "Share Your Battle" challenge is Shadow Snitch but I thought of writing about how important speed in battles are. To illustrate this, I am going to share two battles! Yes, not one but two battles! (Rest assured, one of them ends really fast!)

First reason why speed matters: You hit first!

  • Team Setup: Let's look at the team setup for the Blast battle. Any guesses what would happen in Round 1?
    image.png
  • Round 1: My Undead Priest reduced all their HP by 1. My Creeping Ooze reduced all their speed by 1. Effectively, this meant all my 3 attackers would attack first (except for their Time Mage). And they were left with 1 card after just one round of exchange!

Are you able to visualise what actually happened? If not, you can view the battle here.

My thoughts? I personally feel that at Level 1, Life cards are generally quite slow and have low HP. And they rely heavily on the tank shielding the damage because ranged cards can't attack in the first position as well. Hence, it is not a good idea to use Life element in Blast battles.

Second reason why speed matters: You get a ton of misses from opponents!

image.png

  • Team Setup: This was a plain vanilla battle. Comparing the speed of both teams, Kelp Initiate and Djinn Oshannus would have 6 speed after the summoner boost while my opponent would have 2 speed after Creeping Ooze's ability.
    image.png
  • Rounds 1-2: I am jumping 2 rounds at one go because this battle is actually quite long. Kelp Initiate clocked 1 miss in Round 2 and Creeping Ooze got sneaked.
    image.png
  • Rounds 3-4: Even with Cursed Windeku having a decent speed of 3, it missed Kelp Initiate in both rounds. That's 3 misses to Kelp Initiate, and that bought a lot of time for Djinn Oshannus.
    image.png
  • Rounds 5-6: Finally Kelp Initiate fell and this time it was Djinn Oshannus that clocked 1 miss.
    image.png
  • Rounds 7-8: Djinn Oshannus clocked 2 more misses and continued to keep my team alive.
    image.png
  • Rounds 9-10: Djinn Oshannus clocked another miss, making it 4 misses in total. With Void ability, victory is sealed.

For the full battle, you can catch it here.

My thoughts? When I saw Thaddeus on the opposing side, I thought I would lose the battle, because my only attacker Djinn Oshannus would be reduced to just 1 damage. However, having a higher speed and getting 7 missed hits bought a lot of time for him to chip away, even with 1 damage per turn.

In summary, speed is very important because:

  • You hit first!
  • You get a ton of misses from opponents!
  • Or both! :)

What are your takeaways from these battles? Feel free to comment below, as I am always keen to learn and improve!

As always, thanks for reading and have a pleasant day ahead!

Thanks for sharing! - @lenonmc21

Your battle was good, but you should give more details of your battle and strategy, as well as focus on answering the challenge questions. Your presentation format should also be improved.
