Battle Mage Secrets - Hello Earthquake, It's Brighton Bloom!

image.png

The theme for the current "Battle Mage Secret" challenge is Earthquake ruleset this time! This means all non-flying units take 2 physical damage at the end of every turn. It's not always easy to get the specific ruleset, but if you play hard enough, you definitely can find one! This time I was lucky enough to have one - woohoo!

So here's the interesting battle that I encountered.

Anyway, I thought it would be still be interesting to introduce some useful cards and show how their strengths can be maximised especially with a particular ruleset. In this post, the featured card is a Dragon Summoner, Brighton Bloom!
image.png

Brighton Bloom is just built for Earthquake battles and there's no denying that. While the Flying ability also helps in getting misses, there are many other summoners who offer better boosts for the team. I think there aren't many cards like this in Splinterlands where it is exceptionally strong for a niche ruleset but weak in the other scenarios. Still, keeping a copy of Brighton Bloom is extremely important should Earthquake battles come up and my win rate with this amazing summoner is probably around 80%.

As usual, here's the lore for Brighton Bloom for your reading interest:

Brighton was an eccentric young man of Shimmer City, the capital of Khymeria. He was always seen as a strange character among the Khymian summoners. In the best times, his peers thought he was simply a distraction from their important studies. In the worst times, his fellow summoners doubted and belittled Brighton’s abilities. They were also put off by the way birds always landed on his hands and shoulders. After just two years studying at the Shimmer summoning school, Brighton decided to leave Khymeria. His loyalty was available to the highest bidder, and that is where the Dragons came in.

The Gloridax cared not for Brighton’s strange idiosyncrasies; what mattered to them was his skills as a summoner. Furthermore, in Gloridax eyes oneness with birds has long been considered a sign of divinity. Brighton’s attraction to birds was quickly noticed by Suam Khepri, Empress of the United Gloridax, who assigned a team of aerial sorcerers to properly train the young man. When Brighton emerged from that training, he could grant the power of flight to any monster under his summoning control.

Battle Type & Team Lineup

PositionCard/LevelMana
SummonerBrighton Bloom4

Brighton Bloom is the summoner made for Earthquake battles and his Flying ability ensures that I can field my strongest lineups without compromising on the quality.

PositionCard/LevelMana
1Sea Monster8

With 4 Melee damage and a self healing ability, Sea Monster is especially strong in these Bronze level brawl fights.

PositionCard/LevelMana
2Tide Biter3

Tide Biter has been one of the best Water cards with Reach ability in terms of damage and mana cost. For this Bronze level brawl fight, his damage is reduced to 1 but that's still reasonable. Having a Reach card to strike could take away any potential armor on the opposing tank, leaving Sea Monster to strike the HP.

PositionCard/LevelMana
3Djinn Oshannus8

Djinn Oshannus is always a strong Legendary card and its Legendary stats are more significant in Bronze level brawl fights.

PositionCard/LevelMana
4Isgald Vorst5

Isgald Vorst is the Gladius card for this brawl fight. Opportunity ability is one of the best abilities to have and he's a must have for mid mana fights.

PositionCard/LevelMana
5Axemaster7

When mana permits, Axemaster is fielded without question. For a 7 mana card, being able to strike 4 damage per round is especially strong.

PositionCard/LevelMana
6Kulu Swimhunter4

With the remaining 4 mana, Kulu Swimhunter comes in. Nothing fancy about the card, but deals a good amount of Ranged damage.

  • Pre Battle: Having Brighton Bloom as my summoner, the battle in my view is half won. My opponent chose Kelya Frendul, which had the armor boost to prolong the Earthquake damage for 1 round, but I don't think it would pose any threat to my team.
    image.png
  • Round 1: It was a quiet first round as the Earthquake hasn't kicked in. Got lucky as well as my Sea Monster was almost taken out but a critical hit missed.
    image.png
  • Round 2: Credit to my opponent, who actually put a lot of thought into this lineup, e.g. having high armor cards to counter Earthquake damage, using Martyr and cleverly positioned it to boost the Gladius and Flying cards, and fielding cards with Repair as well. But oh well, we are still looking at 5 vs 3.
    image.png
  • Round 3: My opponent wasn't going down without a fight but a Brighton Bloom led lineup is extremely tough to overcome in an Earthquake battle. 4 vs 2 now.
    image.png
  • Round 4: Almost there.. No surprises.
    image.png
  • Round 5: Easy win there, thanks to Brighton Bloom!

Post Battle

Did my strategy work? Like I mentioned, having Brighton Bloom and if my opponent doesn't have him, it's half the battle won. The added advantage is also that I could field my strongest lineup with being restricted to Flying cards and that's another plus point.

What's the Battle Mage Secret? The answer to Earthquake battles is Brighton Bloom.

So that's all I have! What are your takeaways from this battle? Feel free to comment below, as I am always keen to learn and improve!

As always, thanks for reading and have a pleasant day ahead!

Did you hear about the Scooby Doo villain who became an Olympic swimmer?
He would have won, if it weren't for all those medaling kids!
