Battle Mage Secrets - How Good Is Djinn Inferni?

The theme for the current "Battle Mage Secret" challenge is Even Stevens ruleset this time! This means only units with even mana costs may be used. It's not always easy to get the specific ruleset, but if you play hard enough, you definitely can find one! Well that's what I thought - but it seems that either I am very unlucky or there are just too many rulesets these days and I can't seem get the selected one.

So I decided to share an interesting battle that I encountered.

Anyway, I thought it would be still be interesting to introduce some useful cards and show how their strengths can be maximised especially with a particular ruleset. In this post, the featured card is an Epic Fire card that I don't see so often these days, Djinn Inferni!

Djinn Inferni packs a 3 Magic damage as a 7 mana card and that is extremely powerful. Even though he is squishy, slotting him in the backline will likely keep him safe so there aren't that many issues. Sometimes, when opponents come up with big cards, the Giant Killer ability is a good surprise bonus to have!

As usual, here's the lore for Djinn Inferni for your reading interest:

Djinn Inferni is the eldest of the ancient wardens of fire, spirits of flame that dwell in the deepest rivers of stone. Second only to Lord Janai himself, he is prideful and cunning, but fiercely loyal to his master. With the opening of the rift and the betrayal of Djinn Muirat he has taken up a blood oath of vengeance against the chaos exercitus, rising to the surface to lay waste to the enemies of stone and fire.

Battle Type & Team Lineup

PositionCard/LevelMana
SummonerDelwyn Dragonscale5

My favourite Water element was not available for selection and with Thorns, the only logical choice seems to be a Magic lineup. My Earth cards weren't strong so I went with a Fire Magic lineup with a Dragon summoner to boost my Magic damage.

PositionCard/LevelMana
1Krash Wanderford4

Krash Wanderford is a cheap tank to use and since the battle allows for Gladius cards, it's almost always better to take advantage of it.

PositionCard/LevelMana
2Djinn Apprentice5

Djinn Apprentice slots in second with no particular reason as the whole backline is filled with Magic cards, which are all relatively squishy. But hopefully, the plan is to deal enough damage in Round 1 with the high speed.

PositionCard/LevelMana
3Technowizologist6

Technowizologist slots in next, also with the aim of dealing some quick damage. Hopefully the Stun will come in handy as well.

PositionCard/LevelMana
4Venari Spellsmith4

Venari Spellsmith is the weakest card in my lineup and therefore is hidden right in the middle of the sequence for protection.

PositionCard/LevelMana
5Djinn Inferni7

Djinn Inferni is a fast and hard hitter, especially with the Magic boost damage from the summoner. My chances of winning will largely depend on how long he stays alive.

PositionCard/LevelMana
6Magi of Chaos6

Magi of Chaos sums up the sequence. A decent card with 5 HP slots in behind to protect the lineup from any Sneak attacks.

  • Pre Battle: Bearing in mind my lineup was purely Level 1, when I saw my opponent's lineup, I knew there was no chance of winning. It was a max Silver lineup dominated by Level 3/4/5 cards! But let's see how many rounds I could withstand.
    image.png
  • Round 1: Having the speed advantage helped and it worked well according to my plan. Both sides lost their tanks but what was more incredible was their tank had 12 HP whereas mine had 6 HP. My damage output was relentless.
    image.png
  • Round 2: Just as I was excited over my lineup's damage output, my opponent's damage output was equally frightening. Both sides fired at each other and amazingly, my lineup held up okay in what was supposed to be an one sided battle. 3 cards left for both sides!
    image.png
  • Round 3: As the battle wore on, it soon because obvious that my team will come up short because the level disparity was just too much. After 3 rounds, I was just left with 1 card left. Oh but wait...
    image.png
  • Round 4: Djinn Inferni moved first to take out the opposing Djinn Apprentice, leaving my opponent with a Ranged card that cannot attack from the tank position!
    image.png

  • Rounds 5 to 6: Just 2 hits from the star Djinn Inferni and we miraculously won!

Post Battle

Did my strategy work? Definitely I had to win this by strategy as the level disparity of the cards were so huge. My full Magic lineup and the quick speed, boosted by my Gladius card, proved to be the difference for sure.

What's the Battle Mage Secret? Fire Magic lineups using Delwyn Dragonscale and Djinn Inferni can be very powerful when played well.

So that's all I have! What are your takeaways from this battle? Feel free to comment below, as I am always keen to learn and improve!

As always, thanks for reading and have a pleasant day ahead!
