Battle Mage Secrets - Using The Cheapest Legendary Card!

image.png

The theme for the current "Battle Mage Secret" challenge is What Doesn't Kill You ruleset this time! This means all units gain the Enrage ability which multiplies their speed and melee attack by 1.5x rounded up. It's not always easy to get the specific ruleset, but if you play hard enough, you definitely can find one! This time I was lucky enough to have one - woohoo!

So here's the interesting battle that I encountered.

Anyway, I thought it would be still be interesting to introduce some useful cards and show how their strengths can be maximised especially with a particular ruleset. In this post, the featured card is Legendary Death card, Harklaw, which is interestingly the cheapest Legendary card on the market!

Harklaw isn't a popular card in battles but never forget it is a Legendary card for a reason. With very tanky stats and Shield ability, it's a very tough tank to face in Melee battles. At Level 2, it gains Immunity and that's an extremely valuable ability for Poison battles. (Even though Cursed Windeku has stolen Harklaw's popularity at a cheaper mana cost, I think there are still instances where Harklaw can shine.)

As usual, here's the lore for Harklaw for your reading interest:

Harklaw has achieved the highest degree of Dark Eternal existence in this realm. For many years it has been ready to cross over to the dark reality, but it has graciously stayed behind. Such is the tradition with the greatest Dark Eternal sorcerers of all time to help with the conversion and advancement of others.

Little does the Lord of Darkness know that Harklaw stays behind not to help his fellow Dark to oneness, but to pursue selfish and secret goals. Harklaw has already won the loyalty of some of the Dark Lord’s closest confidants, and together they are concocting a scheme to dethrone him forever.

Battle Type & Team Lineup

PositionCard/LevelMana
SummonerOctavia Shadowmeld6

Octavia Shadowmeld gets the pick because it's Melee Mayhem and Trapp Falloway, an Epic Gladius card, is a solid pick for this ruleset.

PositionCard/LevelMana
1Harklaw8

Harklaw is always a strong tank for Melee fights with Shield ability. A Legendary card is always powerful at the right situation.

PositionCard/LevelMana
2Trapp Falloway4

The star card of this lineup, at just 4 mana, packs 4 Melee damage! Not just that, he has Weaken and Bloodlust abilities, and will benefit greatly from Enraged due to his 4 Speed!

PositionCard/LevelMana
3Disintegrator7

An expensive card to field, but Disintegrator has Demoralise ability, which pairs very well with Harklaw's Shield ability. This weakens any Melee lineup drastically.

PositionCard/LevelMana
4Carrion Shade1

A filler card over here, hopefully with Melee Mayhem, its 1 Melee damage would come in handy somewhere.

PositionCard/LevelMana
5Pelacor Deceiver5

In my opinion, Pelacor Deceiver is one of the strongest Common card among the Reward card series. With high speed and high HP, he would be hard to hit and be very tanky.

PositionCard/LevelMana
6Ever-Hungry Skull5

Ever-Hungry Skull has this unique stats, and putting it behind to protect the lineup against any Sneak or Opportunity attacks one of the useful position for this card.

  • Pre Battle: Both teams used tanks with Shield ability and Disintegrator and that made both teams very weak on damage so let's see what happens.
    image.png
  • Round 1: It was a slow start to the battle because almost all my cards couldn't inflict any damage on my opponent. Fortunately, the Enraged ruleset helped to boost Harklaw.
    image.png
  • Round 2: Harklaw and the opposing Living Lava remained standing after 2 long rounds. My team remained semi-paralysed while Ever-Hungry Skull continued to soak up Sneak and Opportunity hits.
    image.png
  • Round 3: Once both tanks were gone, it was fast and furious. Within a few hits, it was down to 9 cards on the board. I had more HP on the board so I was feeling comfortable.
    image.png
  • Round 4: I was half-expecting Trapp Falloway to dominate this Melee fight but my opponent had a Magic card hidden within his lineup. While everyone will miss a 9 Speed Trapp Falloway, Magic damage doesn't. So my Epic Gladius card went down easily.

  • Round 5: My remaining cards managed to close out this battle with a comfortable win!

Post Battle

Did my strategy work? I did a couple of strategy moves for this battles and most of them paid off. Harklaw/Disintegrator was a great pairing, and if I didn't have that, I would have lost this battle easily. Unfortunately, my opponent employed the similar strategy so there was no advantage here. Ever-Hungry Skull as the last card turned out to be a good move as well, with a ton of armor absorbing all the Sneak and Opportunity attacks. Otherwise, my backline could have been weakened. The only regret is Trapp Falloway didn't shine in this Melee battle, falling to Magic damage, but that's ok. It's a team effort and it is an overall win.

What's the Battle Mage Secret? Don't forget that there's a Death Legendary card called Harklaw, while having fun with all the new and fancy cards. ;)

So that's all I have! What are your takeaways from this battle? Feel free to comment below, as I am always keen to learn and improve!

As always, thanks for reading and have a pleasant day ahead!
