Battle Mage Secrets - Which Is The Best 2 Mana Water Card?

image.png

The theme for the current "Battle Mage Secret" challenge is Counterspell ruleset this time! This means all units receive the magic reflect ability at the start of the battle. Enemy units that attack with magic receive damage back. It's not always easy to get the specific ruleset, but if you play hard enough, you definitely can find one! This time I was lucky enough to have one - woohoo!

So here's the interesting battle that I encountered.

Anyway, I thought it would be still be interesting to introduce some useful cards and show how their strengths can be maximised especially with a particular ruleset. In this post, the featured card is a Water Epic card, Igor Darkspear! And I have been using the Gold Foil version!

Low mana cards are often overlooked because most of the battles are of higher mana quotas. Nonetheless, there will still come a time where we need to navigate our way through these unpredictable low mana battles, be it in ranked battles or in guild brawls. Over time, Igor Darkspear has come in very handy for me when I needed a 2 mana card to fill up my remaining slot. With Ranged damage, a good speed and a high 5 HP, that's good enough for a 2 mana card.

As usual, here's the lore for Igor Darkspear for your reading interest:

Igor Darkspear is the leader of an aggressive tribe known as the Trench Dwellers who patrol the depths of the ocean around the island of Praetoria. The Trench Dwellers are highly territorial and will not hesitate to kill any who trespass in their waters.

As settlers and explorers came to Praetoria, Igor grew more and more angry. His waters were being invaded by ships, fishermen, and outsiders. Igor cared not for why these people had arrived and had no sympathy for their plight. Using his powers over water, he led his tribe in coordinated attacks around the coasts. And still more outsiders came.

During one attack, Igor was approached by a strange, bird-masked man who called himself Doctor Blight. The Doctor talked of wiping the land clean and promised complete death and devastation to all who stood in the Chaos Legion's path.

Igor liked this. He aligned his tribe with the Chaos Legion to help cleanse his waters of all who would trespass. He yearns for the day when the ocean is stained red with blood.

Battle Type & Team Lineup

PositionCard/LevelMana
SummonerKelya Frendul4

The ruleset is rather restrictive and we are left with just the Water element. Kelya Frendul gets the pick as the armor boost is more useful for Counterspell battles.

PositionCard/LevelMana
1Sea Monster8

There's only 17 mana to go around, but Sea Monster is a must have for my Water lineup, especially in low mana battles. Have 4 Melee damage and self healing ability makes it a very strong card, and opponents that field defensive lineups will have trouble fighting this.

PositionCard/LevelMana
2Tide Biter3

Tide Biter has been one of the best Water cards with Reach ability in terms of damage and mana cost. At 3 mana, he deals 2 Melee damage and very early in the game. This takes away any potential armor on the tank, leaving Sea Monster to strike the HP.

PositionCard/LevelMana
3Torrent Fiend0

Corpse Fiend comes in as a filler card in this low mana battle.

PositionCard/LevelMana
4Igor Darkspear2

Igor Darkspear is often an underrated card, but not many 2 mana cards have such good stats. 1 Ranged damage and 5 HP. It's a card that is always handy in low mana battles.

  • Pre Battle: When the lineups showed up, I was definitely down on card count, and my opponent had a healer as well. Pretty similar cards across two sides, and it's all up to Sea Monster's performance.
    image.png
  • Round 1: An uneventful round went past with both lineups on par with each other.
    image.png
  • Round 2: Sea Monster remained very comfortable in front and we have reduced the difference in cards by 1 in this round.
    image.png
  • Round 3: My opponent was running out of time in dealing damage as Sea Monster was able to easily offset the hits by its own healing.
    image.png
  • Round 4: Sea Monster's accuracy is at its best this time, clocking a few misses but we are still very comfortable.
    image.png
  • Rounds 5-8: We took another 4 rounds to secure this straightaway win, but credit to Kelya Frendul lineups because that extra armor really made opponents huffed and puffed to get to the finish line.

Post Battle

Did my strategy work? Sea Monster has always been a strong solo card for low mana battles, and even after so many new and different packs and cards introduced to the game, it is still winning many battles for me.

What's the Battle Mage Secret? Igor Darkspear is an extremely handy card to keep in your deck when you need to fill 2 mana!

So that's all I have! What are your takeaways from this battle? Feel free to comment below, as I am always keen to learn and improve!

As always, thanks for reading and have a pleasant day ahead!
