Share Your Battle - How To Ace Low Mana Fights

The theme for the current "Share Your Battle" challenge is Temporal Master! I don't usually play Life lineups often so I thought of sharing an underrated and situational card. It is none other than Sea Monster and it does very well in low mana fights!

The reason why it aces low mana fights is becase of its Heal ability. Coming in at 8 HP at Level and 9 HP at Level 3 makes its healing very substantial, and it becomes a nightmare when paired with Merdaali Guardian.

If you are on a budget, you can easily rent a Level 1 Sea Monster at 0.1 DEC per day. But I personally prefer a Level 3 version and I think it is very sufficient for Bronze and Silver leagues. A Level 3 can be rented at around 0.2 DEC per day, and it is still extremely affordable. Any higher levels will likely require a more costly Summoner.

But before, as usual, here's the lore for Sea Monster for your reading interest:

There are rumors of Sea Monsters that can swallow a ship whole. The truth is, there are Sea Monsters big enough to swallow the Sea Monster that swallowed the ship whole. Most land lubbers cannot conceive how deep within the planet or how far beyond the horizon the oceans go.

Battle Type & Team Lineup

PositionCard/LevelNotes
SummonerKelya Frendul (Level 2)Kelya Frendul gets selected because I will be using Sea Monster and the speed and armor boost makes Sea Monster even more formidable!
1Sea Monster (Level 3)Here's the star of the show - Sea Monster. 9 HP with heal.
2Tide Biter (Level 2)A Level 2 Tide Biter gets a great Melee boost and helps to support Sea Monster in the damage output.
3Hardy Stonefish (Level 3)When you are left with 1 mana, there isn't much choice left and this is merely a filler card.
4Torrent Fiend (Level 1)Another filler card, which can help block any Sneak damage.

  • Pre Battle: I was confident using Sea Monster for low mana fights but this one might look a little tricky because the opposing tank has Thorns. Will Sea Monster's heal be enough?
    image.png
  • Round 1: Sea Monster and Tide Biter combined to hit the opposing tank while Torrent Fiend did a great job soaking the Sneak damage. While you could see that Sea Monster survived by well after 1 round, Tide Biter played an very important role to hit and absorb some of the Thorns damage so that this damage was distributed across two cards.

  • Round 2: Sea Monster was hanging on by a thread but the opposing tank was gone. If you hadn't known by now, Cursed Windeku is also one of the strongest tanks, especially in low mana fights, so I wasn't expecting an easy fight. From then on, it was going to be easy.

  • Round 3: The good thing was that as the battle wore on, Sea Monster would become stronger because there were lesser opposing cards to deal damage and its healing continued. Still standing after 3 rounds.

  • Round 4: And Sea Monster did it again! Whole team intact!

Post Battle

Did my strategy work? Although I would say my strategy of using a Level 3 Sea Monster worked, to be fair, I think the level of my cards were stronger this time as my opponent had used a full Level 1 deck. That said, there were no surprises, it was a great combination - summoner's boost worked, tank and secondary tank hit well, filler cards absorbed the Sneak damage. With Water cards, because of their high speeds, missed hits are very rare and that means less heartache for me too!

Do I like Sea Monster? It is a very strong card for low mana battles because it has Heal and its damage is very big. The slight risk is that it has a relatively low speed at Level 1, but with Level 3 and another boost from Kelya Frendul, the accuracy won't be an issue. When paired with Tide Biter (which has very high speed), you would get a total of 6 Melee damage.

Final thoughts? If you have trouble winning low mana battles, it's time to consider Sea Monster!

So that's all I have! What are your takeaways from this battle? Feel free to comment below, as I am always keen to learn and improve!

As always, thanks for reading and have a pleasant day ahead!
