Share Your Battle - Winning Silver League Battles With Level 1 Cards

The theme for the current "Share Your Battle" challenge is Djinn Apprentice but I wanted to share another one of my big wins with just a Level 1 team because there has been so much discussion about the latest SPS Governance Proposal. If you haven't read it, you can find it here.

In the past they have penalised players for using starter cards. Now they have moved one step further to penalise players that are using low level cards.

Because I mostly play with Level 1 cards in Silver leagues, this would be extremely bad for me because I will be heavily penalised. I don't understand what's wrong with using Level 1 cards and beating teams with higher level cards - why should I be penalised for that?

Not trying to brag, but even with Level 1 cards, my win rates are still pretty awesome in my personal view. This season (which ends today), I have won 149 out 255 battles (58%) and last season I have won 239 out of 408 battles (59%). And for information, this is without Legendary summoners.

At the end of the day, it's really all about practice, practice and more practice. There is no shortcut to that. Anyway, let me share one of such battles and you can see why this is possible.

Battle Type & Team Lineup

PositionCardNotes
SummonerDaria DragonscaleDragon cards are always the best choice for 99 mana fights because they have a lot of big cards. There was no summoner effects so I just went for a random one.
1Djinn ChwalaA very reliable Dragon tank and it has lots of armor to inflict damage via Thorns.
2Carnage TitanCarnage Titan goes very well with Djinn Chwala especially in high mana fights.
3Lava LauncherI went with Fire to pair the Dragon cards because I didn't have that many big mana cards. In this case, Lava Launcher is a decent choice.
4Ifrit RisingThis is a very strong Fire Legendary card and for long fights like these, the big damage from Recharge can be very crucial.
5Sand WormAnother big mana card. Like I mentioned, I don't have a huge deck so this card gets picked as well.
6Chaos DragonChaos Dragon completes the lineup and hopefully the Scattershot finds its way to good places.

  • Pre Battle: Once again, you can see from my deck that my cards are not just only Level 1, but they are not that fantastic. These are all relatively cheap cards to buy/rent and let's see how they fare against the big cards in the opposing team.
    image.png
  • Round 1: For 99 mana fights, Round 1 is usually the warm up round. Nothing much happened as all the cards remained standing.
    image.png
  • Round 2: The opposing Taunt card was the first to go and my Djinn Chwala and Carnage Titan really were constrained by the opposing Demoralize and couldn't execute much damage. Fortunately I had a diversified team with Ranged and Magic attacks.
    image.png
  • Round 3: Still pretty even here. 4 cards each on both side, though the opposing Bila was gaining stronger and stronger by each round due to Life Leech.
    image.png
  • Round 4: Ifrit Rising threw out its 2nd 6 damage hit before it went down. The battle was going down to the wire, except that unlike my opponent, I didn't have any Ranged cards, which wouldn't be able to hit from the first position.
    image.png

  • Round 5: This was an intense fight. Chaos Dragon got rid of one card but the opposing Bila was up to 15 HP.
    image.png

  • Round 6: The final rounds came to down Sand Worm and Chaos Dragon facing a Life Leech Bila.

  • Round 7-8: And my level 1 team won!

Post Battle

Did my strategy work? I didn't have much choices to begin with and I just put up the cards with the highest mana that I could find to maximise the 99 mana cap. Turns out that even a deck of Level 1 can beat a team with high level cards.

Do I like Level 1 cards? Who wouldn't want to have powerful cards? But I think because the rents for Level 1 cards are more affordable, one is able to rent a wide range of Level 1 cards to have more options within a limited budget. Sometimes it's better to have 10 Level 1 cards than 2 or 3 Level 2 or 3 cards to pick from.

Final thoughts? I just hope the proposal would garner enough "Against" votes because the change in reward system just doesn't make sense. And looking at the declining player base, this is yet another change that might just do more harm than good to a vast majority of players.

So that's all I have! What are your takeaways from this battle? Feel free to comment below, as I am always keen to learn and improve!

As always, thanks for reading and have a pleasant day ahead!
