My Hive Story: Tell Me Yours!

About seven days ago I read a post of one of the bloggers here on HIVE in which content I like to read. This blogger goes by the HIVE name @whatsup. On their blog was a very interesting initiative that had HIVEN's answering a preset series of questions. After Whatsup answered the questions they asked readers for their response to the same preset questions. I thought it a neat challenge so here today I have decided to do the same. I'll answer the preset questions and if you (yes you reading this) want to do the same to all or a select question than please do so either in the comment section below or by creating your own post. If creating your own post don't forget to Link it in the comment section so I can read and upvote it.

The Questions & My Answers

How long have you been on the Blockchain?

I joined HIVE (Cough Steem) January of 2018. I was lingering around weeks/months before I officially got started due to waiting for the infamous email letting me know that I have been accepted to join the blockchain. I'm not sure how long it took for the acceptance email to arrive but at the time I checked my email everyday for at least a week before giving up on it. One day I randomly log into my email and see that my HIVE account was ready to go.

What was your background in cryptocurrency when you first came to the Blockchain?

I had very little experience in cryptocurrency when I first joined HIVE. I was just starting to dip my little toe in the cryptocurrency universe. I wasn't sure how I was going to get a meaningful amount of cryptocurrency but I knew I wasn't going to stop until I accomplished that goal. This lead me to finding some paid gigs that required me to create articles and do various affiliate work. In exchange I would be paid in cryptocurrency. But where was I to blog (Hello HIVE)?

What was your background in writing when you first came to the Blockchain?

I had very little writing skills however I wasn't a complete newbie to writing as years prior to joining the cryptocurrency world I ran and owned a Poker Forum. This required me to write allot of posts (threads as we called them back then). Thinking back I should of hired someone to do that for me as I was horrible at writing articles. Luckily being hands on is the best way to learn things and my skill set improved in this area even though its still not the best.

How many people did you know when you first came to the Blockchain?

Zero people, getting started was tough. The blockchains token was worth $3.50 USD each at the time and it took me a full year to earn 500 tokens. I can remember the feeling of satisfaction of finally being able to use the vote slider.

How did you meet people when you first came to the Blockchain?

I "met" a few regulars when I turned my focus to MMA opinion posts but it wasn't until I invested in Splinterlands that my blog became what I consider successful. When I remember to do so I still visit the MMA topics and hand out some votes. Its good to see some of the same names I once interacted with still posting about MMA.

Who did you look up to when you first came to the Blockchain?

I don't look up to people on chain or real life. The best I can come to answering this question is I did have the urge to get my vote power to be worth $1.00 USD. So indirectly I looked up to anyone who already accomplished that. This is a goal I'm still working on.

How would you describe your first three months on the Blockchain?

As I noted above, I mainly used the site for a place to put my articles and for doing other various affiliate work in which I was commissioned to do by various companies. This meant I didn't care much about my direct earnings here on chain as my earnings were coming from elsewhere. Once I branched out beyond that, it was tough. Getting noticed here was not easy for a newbie.

Has being a part of the Blockchain changed you in any way for the good?

Every life experience changes us in some way. I don't think I can pin point one aspect in which I have been changed for the good because of this blockchain. I can say I have become more knowledgeable and learned new skill sets because I joined this blockchain. I am also on the cusps of becoming more financially secure than I have ever been at any other previous times in my life thanks to this chain and cryptocurrency in general (Hello Splinterlands).

What is your favorite memory from your time on the Blockchain?

My first upvote that was worth $0.10 USD. I still visit the persons blog to this day and hand them an upvote. Sadly they aren't as active as they once were but they do create a post from time to time. Some other notable memories are: (1) My first post that reached over $5, (2) making @arcange daily/weekly top performance posts and as noted previously reaching 500 HIVE and earning that vote slider.

If you could advise a new person signing up to Hive, what would it be?

Join Splinterlands, pay the $10 USD for the game its well worth it. It will provide you with many post ideas. Earn your daily chests and Participate in the Splinterlands weekly challenge. If you do the aforementioned its likely you earn your $10 USD purchase back in less then a month (not financial advice). Financial advice = Ignore all the negative drama and politics on the chain (That last sentence is good real life advice as well).

Speaking about Splinterlands has reminded me that a fellow Hiven and Splinterlands player (@dynamicrypto) is hosting their first Splinterlands tournament tomorrow (12/18/2021). The first place winner will be offered a seat in the official PsyberX Crew Splinterlands Guild. If interested you can find the tournament in the Splinterlands lobby or by Clicking Here.

What is Splinterlands?

Splinterlands is a digital card game created by @aggroed and @yabapmatt. Game Play in which give prizes that have monetary value are being played daily. You can start playing or investing in Splinterlands today by clicking here.

I'll do a quick one in the comments here. :)

How long have you been on the Blockchain
June 2017

What was your background in cryptocurrency when you first came to the Blockchain
No experience whatsoever. Steem was my first token.

What was your background in writing when you first came to the Blockchain
No writing experience other than school. That kinda put doubts in my mind about posting.

How many people did you know when you first came to the Blockchain?
One. My brother had been on steem for a few months.

How did you meet people when you first came to the Blockchain?
I joined every contest and giveaway post. I also commented on anything I found interesting. Lot's of commenting.

Who did you look up to when you first came to the Blockchain?
I really looked up to bloggers who could keep posting consistently. I struggled with doing that.

How would you describe your first three months on the Blockchain?
A huge learning curve but I dove in head first.

Has being a part of the Blockchain changed you in any way for the good?
Indeed! The knowledge I have gained and the people I have met are fantastic. Also the $$ from Splinterlands is great too.

What is your favorite memory from your time on the Blockchain?
There are a lot but..1. Presenting at a steem meet up in Hanoi Vietnam was awesome.2. I got a part time job at a ceramics studio and was paid in steem through a different meet up.3.Legendary Gold foil Alpha Elemental Pheonix.

If you could advise a new person signing up to Hive, what would it be?
Blog because you enjoy it. Don't look at trending posts and think you will get rich quick because you won't. Engage on other peoples posts and upvote. In time you will find your "group". and of course....

Join Splinterlands

There is my short and sweet version. I'll have to go read through the og post to learn more about all them hivers out there. Thanks for sharing this. :)

I did not find your blog until you started making Steem Monster giveaway posts. But I remember people making jokes about you being a fan of UFC in the comment section. Now it makes more sense to me since poker and MMA are interests of yours.

Splinterlands (Steemmonsters) has done awesome things for this blockchain. From changing peoples lives financially to bringing new users here and top of that helping bloggers with ideas to post about. Its crazy to think a game can bring so much value. Thanks for reading and commenting.

I will have to stop by your blog, its been awhile since I visited it. For the tip bots some of them only work if you put them in a line with themselves. I just found this out the other day. Although they do seem to not show up when called for random reasons unknown to me.

No worries man, i appreciate it. Most of the time they work, cool little way to tip and throw some tokens around. I know that, theres also the daily allowance right, maybe based on how much staked. Like how many times you can call the tip bot in a day.

Thanks for the mention and interesting story you got there, I used to post a bit of my daily work at UFC yet since the new owners they have a no pictures at work policy and no posting ufc stuff... The backstage view and short videos I was compiling to begin posting then new policies... oh and I used to play poker everyday at the Palms... lol until it got televised then the money came easier yet waiting an hour+ for a table got old fast

The UFC just doesn't seem the same as it once was. Tell those higher ups to bring back Mike Goldberg. His commentary was just as entertaining as some of the fights.

I have no pull there my friend, I got a nod from Dana White one day for getting the hell outta his way and helped Bruce Buffer operate an espresso machine... I just set up the projectors and screens lol I do agree, they got Daniel Cormier who thinks he is a celebrity now and has stopped paying attention to the fighters and no longer seems to have a clue.

That is an interesting way to get started and I don't know if I would want to wait for an acceptance email to join the block chain. You can find my HIVE story here if you are interested.
