Splinterlands Battle Mage Challenge: Equalizer

avatar

This week's Battle Mage rule set challenge was Equalizer in which every monster gains the same base health of the monster with the highest base health on either team. Buffs are added on after.

This is possibly my favourite ruleset of them all!

Equalizer general strategy....

My golden rule is to play as low health monsters as I can and allow my opponent to gift all my monsters higher health.

This is because there is a general trade-off between stats. The lower the health, the higher everything else is, generally!

What you certainly DON'T want to do is to play something like Bajikeera which has massive health and few other benefits, because all you're doing their is giving away health points to yer opponent.

Besides this HEALING is crucial, you get more bang for your buck with higher health, and so affliction is defo worth playing, as is cripple, and cleanse.

I also like to focus ALL of my attacks on one point, with high health, if you split, you run the risk of never killing anything if yer opponent plays triage.

Equalizer battle exemplar

The battle below shows a battle in which I play the ruleset very well and my opponent gets it ALL WRONG, probably a crap-bot as usual.

Mana and rulesets:

  • Mana 30
  • ruleset equalizer only.

  1. Flesh Golem - healing!
  2. Chicken - low health, note the MASSIVE boost!
  3. Serpentine mystic - affliction
  4. Goblin Psychic - tank heal
  5. Mittica Headhunter -main damage card
  6. Brownie - just for the swiften!

The battle...

  • round 1 - we trade blows for no losses (huge health!)
  • round 2 - I take out the Sethropod, unhealed.
  • round 3 - we trade blows for no losses
  • round 4 - I take out Osheanus, but I also lose my tank.
  • round 5 - No losses
  • round 6 - I take out the Deep Lurker.
  • Round 8 - I take out the archer... see a pattern..?!?
= By round 12 it is all over and I'm 5/6.

Final battle analysis

I will have to review using Lilly Shieldpaw, the camoflauge makes the triage less useful, and in this case the camo hurt me. Ideally no camo and triage would have meant one monster taking hits and then being mostly healed in the middle, saving my tank from some damage. He came too close to dying in R3!

Besides this, my opponent lost badly by gifting me 10 health from Osheanus and failing to heal anything, TERRIBLE strategy and an easy win for me.

Equalizer final thoughts...

Play low health cards and HEAL, for the love of god play HEALING CARDS!
