Splinterlands Battle Mage Challenge: Fog of War

This week's Battle Mage rule set challenge was the classic Fog of War in which monsters lose the sneak and snipe abilities...

Fog of War general strategy....

  1. As a general rule it's not worth playing any sneak or snipe monsters in this ruleset, as usually these count as one buff, so you're probably going to get more by selecting other cards!
  2. The same can be said for not having to defend against sneak and snipe, which is usual, so no need for back row monster that's fast or with thorns or self-heal, and no need for a snipe sink either, nice!
  3. So it's more likely you'll get either an all out assault on your tank, so this might be worth protecting more and making super hard.... so shield, self-heal, tank heal, high health, you know the drill.
  4. Alternatively you may get opportunity, for those diehards that must attack something other than just the tank (scattershot is a bit crap so no need to worry about that!), so maybe a taunt monster to make sure!
  5. Then it's just a matter, after tanking up, of going for a classic mixed line up I think - melee tank, then maybe a second reach tank, then some magic and ranged.

Probably one of the simplest, most classic strategies, I'd say!

Fog of War battle exemplar

The battle below shows a battle in which I win using a mainly magic strategy against an opponent which seems to have made some rather odd card selections!

Mana and rulesets:

  • 37 mana
  • Fog of War and amplify

Summoner - Kitty for the tank heal (protect the tank in this ruleset!)

  • Chain golem - void and shield and shields
  • Gold dragon - good damage and self heal for blast and an OK tank 2
  • serpentine mystic - for affliction, I was expecting heal
  • Venari Crystalsmith - more heal
  • Defender of the Truth - protect and OK damage
  • Blight at the back - more affliction and poison, again to weaken the tank!

The battle...

  • round 1 - we trade blows for no losses
  • round 2 - I take out warrior of peace
  • round 3 - I take out the cube, that didn't take long!
  • round 4 - The unicorn goes down
  • round 5 - And the Prismatic energy, void didn't do much good!
  • round 6 - it's all over, 2 more cards down and I'm 6 for 6!

Final battle analysis

Another battle where my opponent lost it rather than me winning it - he selected too many no damage cards and had a line up with too low damage, and too little defence, too little of anything TBH, I don't really know what he was thinking!

Fog of War final thoughts...

Basically pick some damed cards that do some damage!
