Splinterlands Battle Mage Challenge: Holy Protection

This week's Battle Mage rule set challenge was Holy Protection in which every monster gains the Divine Shield ability at the beginning of the battle, meaning they are protected from the first attack of any monster!

Holy Protection general strategy....

I guess there are two aspects to this:

  1. Thinking about the best way of using the protection.
  2. Thinking about the best way of dealing small amounts of damage to your opponent!

I think for low mana battle sets, this rule set could favour fast cards with lower health, given there's likely to be fewer rounds... I mean speed is king anyway, but even more so here...

Lower health because that shield means they are guaranteed to get in one attack.

In terms of getting through the shield, small attacks will kill it just as well as large attacks, so I'm thinking snipe or opportunity with blast... you could potentially get rid of all your opponent's shields in your first three attacks!

Return fire, thorns and reflect would likewise do the same - small damage killing the divine shields in return, hah!

Other than that I think it's just business as usual with this ruleset!

Holy Protection battle exemplar

The battle below shows a relatively high mana battle featuring Holy Protection!

Mana and rulesets:

  • Rulesets = Divine shield, lost magic and stampede
  • Mana = 38.

•• Summoner - Kitty** - for the awesome!

  • Flesh Golem - yr every reliable Earth Tank
  • Scavo hireling - repair
  • Tower Eagle - shields
  • Dragon Jumper - opportunity 1
  • Screeching Vulture - opportunity 2
  • Mittica HeadHunter - massive damage!

The battle...

  • round 1 - we trade blows, no losses, typical Divine Shield stylee! Annoyingly I lose a 6 damage attack on the DSH
  • round 2 - Boom! Thanks to speed I take out my opponent's front two cards
  • round 3 - I take out the acid shooter but loose my Tower Eagle
  • round 4 - I take out my opponent's next two monsters and it's all over!
  • round 5 - one ranged in first monster to finish off!

Final battle analysis

Ultimately it was simply my better cards and strategy that won this...My opponent was way too reliant on ranged attacks, and hoping for a quick take out with Grum, double strike and trample, but ultimately divine shield helped prevent this and once he was gone it was all downhill for him!

In terms of Divine Shield, opportunity helped to remove those quickly, with blast, but it was really just my overall massive fire power compared to my opponent's, and more healing that won the day!

Holy Protection final thoughts...

Mainly business as usual I think!
