Splinterlands Challenge of the Week: Dax!
This week's Splinterlands Challenge of the Week was to showcase Dax Paragon from the Life Splinter.
This is pretty loveable and useful card, low mana and one magic damage, with three health.
The battle below features a Level 1 Dax although he didn't really do too much TBH!
The Rule Set and Line Up
- Mana cap 27
- Standard Rules apply (Bronze League!)
Summoner - Illian Plus one speed and return fire, NICE!
- Shieldbearer - fairly standard taunt strategy for Life with mid to high mana battles
- Scorch Fiend 0 Mana filler
- Dax! The feature card, one magic damage
- Venari Crystalsmith - healer and one ranged damage
- Brightwing - useful repair and two magic damage
- Celestial harpy - the best two mana card I could find to bring up the rear with one ranged damage.
Did my strategy work?
Beautifully, to see it in action click here!
- Round 1 - Boom! Return Fire works wonderfully to take out my opponent's two back row cards and the celestial harpy takes out the Serpentine Spy.
- Round 2 - A collective effort takes out another two of my opponent's cards.
- Round 3 - it's all over!
How important was Dax?
TBH he barely got a look in... the return fire did most of the work thanks to the summoner, and Shieldbearer remained untouched because of shields and repair.
Still, a win is a win so happy days!
Final Thoughts: Dax - worth buying?
I've got a soft spot for Dax, it's the arrogant superhero thing I think, however he's not that useful down at lower levels, he doesn't fit the Life META of repair, heal, taunt tank very well.
However at higher levels you get A LOT for two mana - 2 damage and two buffs and high health, so if you're playing at Diamond or above this looks super useful!
If you don't yet play Splinterlands, why not give it a go?

Ignore my previous comment. You’re using level 1 cards I see 😅
But using a level 2 Dax with a level 2 ilthain can be very powerful. In this case you didn’t need amplified return fire
I think Dax must be awesome higher up the levels, you get a lot for your mana!
I loved using it in bronze league or silver league as your opponents are not used to encountering amplify. I think there’s only 2 or 3 monsters that have amplify in bronze league. It can be quite powerful.
I often used djinn chwala, Dax, scavo hireling and venari crystalsmith. Especially nice when the gamerule allows melee monsters to attack the first monsters from the backline.
At low levels I see him as a bullet catcher for high damage cards. On Diamond and above, as you say it, cheap with two buffs.

There are some monster cards that are not needed at all in low leagues, however as you mentioned in high leagues with a high level it becomes interesting.
It's awesome to see "Celestial Harpy" finish off "Serpentine Spy", but with that amount of mana, I always play earth magic, set up a shield as a tank and full magic back with a healer or two.👍👍👍
Probably a good strategy to play earth, but the challenge demanded Life, a fun but tough splinter to play!
