Splinterlands Challenge of the Week: Gargoya Scrapper
This week's Splinterlands Challenge of the Week was to showcase the Gargoya Scrapper from the Life Splinter...
This is a very useful low mana card, given you 1 damage and two health for just one mana, and with the Life Splinter which favours shields this can be very effective against anything other than magic attacks! (And at L7 it gets Void to help counter those)
The battle below features a Level 1 Scrapper in a relatively long battle for a 13 mana match, in which the Scrapper lasts the distance!
The Rule Set and Line Up
- Mana cap 13
- Standard Rules apply (Bronze League!)
Summoner - Drake for plus one shields!
- Gargoya Scrapper - a useful low mana battle tank
- Manticore - a VERY useful second tank with reach.
- Armoursmith - to repair Drake's shields.
- Dax - low mana 1 magic damage
- The Chicken - 0 mana sneak and opportunity soak.
Did my strategy work?
Beautifully, to see it in action click here!
- Round 1 - We trade blows, no losses
- Round 2 - I lose my chicken to my opponents' sneak, but that's what he's there for.
- Round 3 - no losses!
- Round 4 - I finally take out my opponent's Pelacor.
- Round 5 - no losses
- Round 6 - I take out his snitch leach.
- Round 7 - with the Venari CrystalSmith now in P1 my opponent is doing no damage so it's all over!
- Round 10 - it took me a while to grind through but it WAS all over my round 10!
How important was The Scrapper?
Well he lasted the distance and did some damage along with my other two damage cards, and I absolutely needed all three damage points every round to win, given my opponent's heal.
However I think my win was also down to my opponent's bad choices - he had slow cards too, meaning I could hit every time (no misses) and put his own scrapper in entirely the wrong place - had it been in P2, acting as a second tank he might have won.
Especially from round 6 when he ended up with his ranged attack in first and the Scrapper behind, he was doing no damage, just fodder for me!
He played the Scrapper as a sneak soak, but I didn't play sneak, so his was useless for most of the battle whereas mine was playing an essential role!
I also got lucky with the ordering of attacks - when my opponent's Snitch Leach was in P1 and doing 2 damage, that hit the shields, which were repaired while his 1 damage attack got my health, had it been the other way around the Scrapper would have died.
It's interesting to see my line up win against what are some fairly decent LIFE cards too!
Final Thoughts: Gargoya Scrapper - worth buying?
Absolutely - YES!
Even early on it's proved useful in helping to win lower mana battles in bronze and when levelled up to L7 the stats look great for a one mana card - two damage and void for just one mana, I can see this being a really decent tank in those 12 mana battles with Life!
If you don't yet play Splinterlands, why not give it a go?

I don't think I've ever used that one. The 1 mana cards are useful though
It was more useful than I thought TBH!
